Can someone do me the favor of pointing me toward the registry key in WinMo 6.1 that indicates the device is in screen saver mode? I'm looking to pull that setting into a script as a trigger for some associated actions.
Thanks in advance, your help is appreciated.

I recently got a Qtek 8300 (similar to an i-Mate SP5m). It's working pretty well and I'm pleased with it. However, one thing I wish I could correct is that when I have my phone in a case, slightly touching the front of the case causes the locked keyboard to unblank the screen. I have an eBook reader so I have the screen stay on for a longer-than-usual time. The problem is that unblanking the screen for no reason wastes battery power. Half the time when I glance down at the phone case, the screen is on.
Is there any way to get only the left soft key, or any other key, to unblank the screen to unlock the keyboard, and have all the other keys ignored? Thanks.

I'd be very curious to get a solution to this problem too. Even the Automatic Keylock utility seems to end up calling the canned WM5 keylock routine, which turns on the light whenever you touch a locked key...
I really liked the way WM2003SE locked the keys on a PocketPC phone. With that, the light stayed off until I pressed the power button. The beauty of the power button is that it's recessed and won't be pressed by a carrying case. Plus, I always knew where the power button was - even in the dark.

This is a BAD flaw in the software build.
Has anyone found a fix to this?
I do know that the PPC version of WM5 has a checkbox somewhere in settings that actually allows you to disable all keys except the power button, when the keylock is applied. So there's got to be some extra registry entries on the PPC. Anyone got a Wizard or similar rhey can take a look at the registry and see?
I am SURE standby time would be GREATLY improved if we could invoke this on the Smartphone platform.......

From my Wizard (XDA Mini-S), turning the "lock all keys" option on and off, changes this value:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
"DefaultKeyLock"=dword:00000000 (unlocked)
"DefaultKeyLock"=dword:00000001 (locked)
unfortunately, there is no "Keybd" key on my Tornado (Xda IQ, specifically) so I suspect this won't work. Shame...

Can anyone recommend a good key lock program? Right now i am using the one included with Smarttoolkit but i find the back light still comes on too frequent when some buttons are touched while in my pockets. I think it is killing my battery time.
Thanks
autokeylock or maybe it's "auto key lock"
pretty sure it's one word. search the forum for it. just do your reading because you may need to adjust your registry setting as it tends to set your display timeout to 7 seconds. Works fine after you regedit that oddity out.
It's free too.
It's also available in most WM6 ROMs.

<shamelessplug>Correct would be Automatic Keylock</shamelessplug>

If something like that happens, it's inside Windows Mobile. Automatic Keylock does _not_ touch the display timeout.

It seems to have something to do with the registry holding the the non-keylock settings and the keylock settings.
It's this key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Power\LockLevel]
Quite e few threads/posts with people crying because their screen times out too fast (7secs). Changing the value to "0" fixes it.
I wondered if it had something to do with some keys being in hex and others in binary.... So if a hex/binary/decimal value is entered into a binary/decimal/hex key, it sets the wrong timeout.
I often see people post the same registry keys and the values are not in the same entry system (how do I express this thought?). Of course this is with all kinds of things, not just the above registry key.
I have a real mishmash in my audiogain keys. some are hex, e.g. C7, some are plane decimal values and some are binary. Makes it difficult to tweak when it's not obvious what you're looking at.
I would assign the spb mobile shell backlight control to a button but I don't know how . I search in the forum but I found anything that help me. I believe I can do so creating a shortcut pointing at the menulauncher.exe file in the sbp mobile shell installation folder, but i don't know the parameters to use. Thanx anyone can help me
I'd love to be able to do this too. Anyone have a suggestion?
Try going into your settings folder, click on the buttons icon. If you have SPB Pocket Plus also, it add additional options. It's been a long time since I used just the basic features for re-maping my buttons but give it a try.
I use pocket plus to do this on my kaiser... works great. It cycles through the brightness levels. I've also set the same button so when i hold it down it turns the screen on/off
Hi,
Is it posible to disable backlight dimming in WM6?
I don't want to send the device go to standby, just turn off it's backlight, let me give you an example:
In WM5, where backlight dimming was not implemented yet, i was using this:
Sleep mode settings: both disabled,
Backlight: both enabled (battery and external),
Device lock enabled on today screen.
This way i could 'wake' the device just by tapping on the screen or on any button, and the next step being unlocking it. The battery consumption in this mode is almost the same as with using standby mode. And another big benefit was much more stability in the OS and other applications because the system was never going into real standby. And of corse wifi and other things could remain on while in this 'standby' mode. Also, imagine using S2U2 in this mode...
But.. this scenario is no more posbile in WM6, because backlight does not go off anymore, but instead it dimms, leading to a fast battery consumption.
Moreover, device lock function become useless.
Someone sugested ScreenOff (or blackme) /and ScreenOn. Leaving alone that this would be a 'manual' solution, you can't tap on screen after using screenoff because screen is completely off, not only the backlight, and tapping does nothing.

thnx alot for your help
Bump to keep this thread alive because I would really rather my phone working like that and have locking being actually useful. Because what's the point of locking your phone when it's gonna power off by itself anyway?
Hope people can come up with a solution soon. Maybe a registry edit to make the dim go to 0%.

thnx for support
I agree we need to get rid of dimming. Because that way S2U2 or any other lock program make no sense. I must first turn on the device then unlock. So locking is not needed because device is turned off.
I believe we should wake up microsoft to make a patch or an update or something about it.
If a general poll be posted i believe all the wm users would like - want this feature.
and maybe the admins as the xda community could declare our statement to microsoft.
What do you think?

thnx for the pool, the results seem favorable to us,
i was thinking, wm 6.5 will be out next year, maybe we are lucky and this will be fixed in it..?
I use S2U2 and I have it set to 'blank screen only' after 10 seconds. This means that by running s2u2.exe (which is mapped to a long press on a hardware button) it leaves the device locked with the screen off, but not suspended.

In the s2u2 settings, in the battery power section, 'Power Off in' is set to 10seconds, and 'but Blank Screen only' is set to ON.
I've assigned s2u2.exe to a hardware button using 'spb pocket plus', although if you want a free package which does that, you'll have to search around.

Hi gang,
I'm kinda new to the whole rom cooking scene. I've been playing but I can't figure out how to actually place a link to or a shortcut to the SYSTEM - SETTINGS - POWER applet on my HD2, which opens the battery & backlight settings screen.
This is where you can go in and change with the slider the actual screen backlight brightness? I want to put a shortcut to that on my front screen, or at least in the first screen when I hit the Windows button.
Any advice will be greatfully received!
Thanks guys,
MrAskani (aka right now as N00bChef to friends with this phone!!)
the way i'd do it is to install MyLight then under settings buttons assign the program to a key.
