SDA wifi and internet problem

Hi all,
I've been searching countless forums for a solution to my problem, and I was not able to find a solution.
I purchased a T-Mobile SDA(USA, aka: HTC Tornado) with the belief that I will be able to connect to my hiome WIFI.
I tried connecting with original rom(T-mo SW 1.9.19.16) and I was able to connect to my access point, and I aquired an IP address, and everything, but internet explorer and Opera Mini browser was not able to connect to the internet. IExplorer keeps on "locating" then times out.
I am able to connect to a HotSpot location through wifi and also my G (GPRS) indicator is always on.
My guess is that TCP/IP use is somehow blocked for anything but T-mobiles HotSpots, and otherwise it tries GPRS(I do not have data plan.)
What I mean is that they restrict me to connect to GPRS or Edge in general, unless there is a HotSpot operated by T-Mobile.
Anyways if someone has an idea, please help me out, since I've spent countless of hours(not quite countless, but more than 48 hours for sure) on this, with no luck.
Please, anything, idea, reg hack, I accept anything.
Thank you.
PS: Now I'm running an iMate sp5m rom (i-mate_SP5m_WWE_1.6.331.6.exe) and nothing changed....
I'm sure this has come up before (try searching) but make sure your internet explorer isn't set to use WAP Network only.
Thanks for your reply...really appreciate it.
I was on a trip in NYC and I had a variety of WIFI spots, and to my very surprise I was able to get online through WIFI.
It seems that I still needed the iMate Rom, but my problem is my home wifi network.
It's weird since I enter my key and I get an IP, yet the connection is still not the correct one.
My next step is to look for a list of access points which have issues with SDAs, and if mine passes I'll start changing settings on my access point and go from there.
Thanks again, and if someone has a link to the list, I would appreciate it if it will post it.
And also if someone knows how to get rid of the GPRS indicator....
Thanks

If you're on WiFi, you should not be getting the G indicator; in fact, change it to E as it should be if on an Edge network (Cingular); look for a RegEdit to do that.
Re: your home connection not working. Are you sure you are on YOUR WiFi network, not a neighbors somewhere? If you have not changed your WiFi name to something that makes sense to you, I suggest you do that to be sure you are trying to connect to YOUR network. I have neighbors that have not changed their LinkSys names to something else, and there is no way for me to tell if I'm on theirs or mine unless my name is something unique to me and that I know.

Buying a Wifi card for my 750.

My fiance just bought the 750 off of Ebay, and he's already sure he wants to buy a wifi card. I looked on the Ebay listing, and the phone is unlocked, but branded to AT&T. How would I take of the AT&T proxy? He'll be using the phone in Guatemala, with completely different phone carriers
when you use the wifi
You connect to the internet through the wifi and not your server. ) I t is like the bluetooth..)
proxy?
there should be a proxy setting in the programs menu. it just lets you check or uncheck a box that says force att proxy.
Oh really? So all I'll have to do is install the wifi card and I'll be able to get online with it?
Yes, it's possible. Si se puede.
Hey, Sergiosgirl, don't worry about the ATT proxing settings, if your fiance is planning to use WiFi. But, if he would like to surf the web from his cell phone number (Tigo, Claro, Telefonica), you should configure the proxy. But, don't worry, I think all the companies give you step-by-step instruction for doing that.
More Info for your Treo 750
Go to this website, from the XDA-Developers. You will find all the info you need.

I got the Wifi card, but I don't know how to install the driver onto my 750, it only installs it on my computer, and I can't find it on the computer now. What am I doing wrong? I followed all the instructions
You must connect the treo with
the computer with the cable and Activesync. then run the software that install the driver in the treo.
Ohhhh thank you so much! It worked!!!!
But, um, I can't seem to go to webpages. It always says the connection was lost, but I'm still on MSN. Any ideas?
Anyone ??

PD: weather update works, and it connects to the 3G network. but dont work in Opera/IE
there is nothing to configure with the fuze if you are on the AT&T network. all you do is put in your sim card.
I had a few issues myself. If you were using isp.cingular then it might not connect there any more unless you purchase the tethering plan. Even then, isp.cingular will only work for direct push and tethering.

Try this
Start>>>>Setting's>>>>Connections>>>>Connections>>>>set up my proxy server>>>un-check "this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet"
i wound a useful thread, where you can disable some sort of hidden proxy.cab thing installed on device (programs>proxy tools), now IE works but still no luck with Opera, im looking forward to upgrade this factory AT&T Rom because i don't feel my Fuze very smoothly
PD: also check on what you suggested, but it was already unchecked.
Thanks for helping mate

Im looking forward to change the factory ROM because it doesn't feel too smoothly.

If I remember right, the default Opera browser on the Fuze is set up to only work with the proxy, so you'll have to flash a new rom most likely (but you really should do that anyway.)

Problem with GPRS in India

I hail from Karnataka, India and I own an HTC P3350 since 8 months. There is a problem with GPRS for HTC in India (some compatibility issue between HTC and network providers in India, I heard.) The GPRS never works but yet i get charged for the kb i download and it even shows up on the SPB GPRS Monitor. That's really ridiculous.
Does anyone else face the same problem? Or is it just a problem with my handset? If its a common prob, does anyone have any solution to it??
Would appreciate any inputs..
Thanks in advance..

You "Heard" wrong.
it would be best if you would describe your problem in detail.
My exact simple problem is that the GPRS just wont connect. When i start something like internet explorer, it attempts to connect and ends up with the error message 'Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings.' I tapped Settings and tapped everything i could! But the result is the same.IT NEVER CONNECTS!
My network is Vodafone. I tried searching xda forums and came up with these threads -

Everyone seems to be having the same problem but the solutions offered are only for Airtel Live. I have Vodafone. Can you suggest some settings/reg changes/ANYTHING to make GPRS work on my cell phone. I tried changing the portal name, etc which was mentioned in above linked threads. But none were for any use.
Would appreciate any insight...

Sorry, But you have failed to mention Which WM version you are on.
i'll Assume you are on 6.0 and above and try to help you.
You will have to follow the steps in the Airtel Live Thread to Configure your settings.
(Proxy Setting)
IMPORTANT- After you configure your proxy settings you will NOT be able to use Internet through WIFI untill you delete the Proxy Server.
In Settings > Connection > Advanced Setting you will see an option similar to "When an application request to connect to internet, use this" change it to the second option, after this you might have to reconfigure your "Vodafone GPRS" Settings. (Sorry for being so vague, but i dont use my WinMo phone anymore, however these are the Settings i needed to change to Use GPRS on it.
Even after doing this, not all applications will work.
Poke around, and if you are still getting stuck somewhere, i'll charge my phone and give you the exact procedure.
thanks so much.. i'll try it out n get back.. btw ya my version is 6.0..

Connect to GPRS in Delhi

Hi Guys,
I am in Delhi/NCR region and using HTC touch pro with my Vodafone prepaid connection. My problem is that I could not enable Data Connection or GPRS on my phone. I tried lots of settings available on the internet, but none is successful.
I have flashed TAEL ROM (TAEL ROM v5.23138/21914 • FAST|STABLE|TWEAKED •), and have a radio as 1.14.25.35.
Please please help if anyone is running GPRS successfully on HTC Touch pro.
I have also tried enabling GPS at my home (over wifi), but again, I couldnt get any satellites locked.. Has anybody been successful in this too. Please help me running GPS on my phone also.
Thanks a lot

I see you are in forum for quite long time.
Are you setting the Touch Pro for first time or this problem is just after new ROM Flash

Hi,
I did try this many times, and infact I was successful once in making GPRS run with same Vodafone connection (that was also on a cooked ROM, energy I guess). But after that I flashed a new ROM (dont remember which one), but after flashing that ROM, I could not connect to GPRS till now. I doubt if it is really a radio issue... but I want to know which radio would work for me.
If you know which radio, or know of correct settings, including registery edits or through advance config please do let me know.
Thanks
Definitely Energy Rom were the best i used.
Now i do not have Touch Pro but still i will suggest flash Energy Rom to your device.
What always worked for me was flashing a official Rom from HTC india website then the Energy Rom, this combination was perfect for Call, GPRS & GPS as well.
Do remember to change network type here -
Start>Settings>Personal>Phone>Network
After this there will be no need for any registry change just put following settings -
Start>Settings>Connections>Connection>Add new connection
Name > Whatever you want
Access Point > WWW
nothing else , just finish the wizard

Thanks for your reply. I have network type as "automatic"
Start>Settings>Personal>Phone>Network = "automatic"
and did set the network connection as you mentioned. But it didnt work as of now.
Well, I would reflash the India official ROM and then flash Energy ROM and then retry.. Will let you know.
Btw, what should be the advanced network settings here ?
start->settings->connections->advanced Network
Should GPRS say PAP authentication or CHAP authentication ?
Thanks

This means that full GPRS is not active on your number, you have access to vodafone live only.
Please check customer care.

Usually service providers in India, by default activate WAP service only not full GPRS, unless you recharge with special internet pack on your number.
there are workaround which allow you to use WAP service on windows phone, but its speed is almost useless.
