Web and walk - General Topics

I everyone!
there is something i would like to understand but cannot find...
I've got a contract with t-mobile+web and walk included (i've
got a Mda compact 3)
that why i choose the option to of web and walk, anyway from not that long i change flat and i've no more internet connexion (a yes the only thing i have it's share connexion option with my mda) it is very slow because it not 3g mobile that is easy to understand to here!
After get to t mobile shop and the customer service to buy the modem itself because i have already access to the web and walk they do not sell the modem separately it's only with contract.
The question is (I hope you were not impatient ^^)
If i buy a unlock modem (i don't mention the website but can guess e...) and i insert my sim card on it that will work?
Thank you if you tried it.
Greg
And thank for many thing i found on Xda-developers already

Should do, bear in mine the basic wnw doesnt allow the service to be used as internet access for a laptop/pc though (unless the t&cs have changed)....web-n-walk+ allows IM software and also the use of the service as an internet connection for a pc/laptop.

I wait see if someone tried before if not i can be the beta test maybe that will do and happy or trow 55£

Help!

Hello, I purchased a phone from you via ebay. I have successfully turned the phone service on through AT&T wireless. My problem is that I cannot connect online. I have contacted AT&T and Siemens and spoke with numerous people, for numerous hours (literally) and no one has been able to help me. I'm not sure what to do, and I am a bit illiterate when it comes to certain jargon. Please assist. I had the same phone before purchased through AT&T and it was stolen, along with my car! Sucks. I purchased the phone from you not knowing that there were changes. I can accept change, if I am able to use all functions of the phone. So far, I can't. Also, how do you get the phone off military time?
Thank you
Brenda
have you setup the GPRS settings like it used to be ?
if you dont have the GPRS settings then try searching in the networking forum somebody is bound to have been looking for those settings like you

750v in Japan

man, i never said i was the smartest, I spent like a week in the hermes forums looking for info that I could possibly be using on my treo!!! First question is there any 750 users in Japan? Hopefully there are, I just picked mine up in HK and have been using it here in japan for about 3 weeks, I love the phone just can't seem to work the mms bugs out of it, hopefully some members are using theres in japan on softbanks service.
Hello Etriess
I been thinking of getting the 750v and have had the X01HT by SB but the unit was too slow.. Window... How is the speed of the 750V? do you have software slowdown issues? and what provider are you using? Docomo ? SB?
Inquiring minds want to know!
Catfish
Hey catfish,
I am using SB service, so I didn't have any issues when it was unlocked. I have now unlocked it and still working fine, I have not used anyother sim card except SB's. As far as speed is I haven't had another WM phone so really nothing to compare it to. I do like it, the speed to me is fine, I like my phone software to be fast, that is why I would never use a samsung phone again the software is just to dam slow, so sorry couldn't help with that question.
etriess,
I just brought over an unlocked treo 750 from the US to Japan and using with with a SB sim card. The one problem I'm having is that I can't access the internet with the phone. The direct push/email synch is working for me, but for some reason I can't access the internet. I'm currently using the Vodofone Access Point and I tried the new *99# access point, but nothing is working for me. Supposedly "open.softbank.ne.jp" used to work, but it was shutdown at the end of April. Do you information on an access point that works with the Treo 750?
I just moved back to Japan, and I have an unlocked Cingular Treo 750 (WM5). I also subscribed with Softbank, with their unlimited packet internet plan. Can anyone tell me the settings they are using for their treo 750 if they are using it with their treo? How did you configure your access point settings? I have been able to make phone calls, but I have not been able to get any data portion to work. I tried some of the suggestions on the Hermes forum, but I could not get the password necessary for the AP to work. Are you using the old cingular/vodaphone settings? Are you being billed per packet?
Thanks.
Yukster,
Did you get your problem solved? Have the same situation with you, searching a solution now for 6 months!
Opensoftbank AP Password conundrum
I am working on the solution to this problem. I think the answer lies in the WIFIwake.exe program that is available on the Hermes and Universal forums. There are three ways this problem could get solved:
1) Edit the WIFIwake.exe so that it can be used with other devices (possible I assume, because the Hermes WIFIwake is a slightly changed copy of the Universal WIFIwake) This will probably prove beyond my capabilities.
2) Get the password by looking at the code of WIFIwake.exe. I have managed to open the exe with a debugger program and there are some likely contenders. I am in the process of trying them now. Trying them all will take some time.
3) Find the guy who wrote these programs and get him to write another that is either universal or that can be used on a Treo 750. I, personally, don't want a 750, but there are more than a few Japanese users I have seen that would be interested in getting this to work.
Anything in here anyone can help me with? I need it.
it works in japan. tested by myself. (in tokyo at least)
@SirJeannot, can you be more specific? I know the 750v should work in Japan as it has the right radios, but the question is what access protocol is being used.
Can you access the internet using a softbank simcard? If so, what access point name are you using? Is it open.softbank.ne.jp? Or is it something else?
Also, can you access Softbank MMS?
Sorry, no solutions as of yet... I have temporarily given up, and bought a Sharp EM One when works on the E Mobile network. I also got a regular Softbank cellphone, (Toshiba 911T) and is patiently waiting for a solution. Right now, the Windows mobile situation is pretty bleak, with the X01HT being sold out, and its replacements being delayed for over 2 months. The solutions from wilcom is expensive and slow, being stuck on a 256 kbs PHS network, and expensive, with its unlimited data plan at over 12000 yen. At least the EM One is pretty capable, but large, and has no phone capabilities.
There is no debate that you can use the Treo 750 in Japan... I have roamed several times with it when it was with AT&T. I have put the softbank sim in, and it works fine, but the data portion did not work.

Is it possible for a 3G SIM for a USB modem to be locked so it won't work in a phone?

Hi all,
I'm in Spain and there's a mobile data tariff Orange do here called 'Internet Everywhere' that has a 5GB data allowance, but it's for laptops with a USB modem dongle. The normal 3G tariffs for phones only go up to 512MB which is a bit low for what I want.
Now a guy in the Orange shop here said you can't use the SIM for the USB dongle in a normal phone, even just for data (I'm aware it won't work for voice), but I suspect this is BS, but obviously before signing up for an 18 month contract I want to be sure.
Orange offer the same tariff (and dongle) in the UK, and from a bit of Googling around it *seems* people have used the SIM in a regular mobile for data and it's worked, but the posts I found were a bit unclear. I've not managed to find any info about the Spanish version.
So! My question is, does anyone know of any way that Orange could be locking these SIMs so they'll only work in a dongle and not with a regular mobile?
I have a lock-free Touch Pro (you can't get these with a contract here so I paid the full price... ouch).
Thanks!
In israel Orange locks the SIM cards using a specific code for each of the modems so that you can't even moהe them between modems.
I think you should search in the Network section of the forum first.. if you don't find anything.. maybe someone could break it.. tho i'm pretty sure it isn't as simple as it seems.
Thanks for the reply

I have just visited virgin mobile website and it says there that they are using National Sprint Network.
http://www.virginmobileusa.com/mobile-broadband
I am not sure if that applies to pda's (web has aircard and mifi pics) but call them and ask if you can activate your phone w data. Keep in mind that it is a CDMA network too so i wont be able to tell you how to setup your phone for internet + not sure if they can activate TP2 ESN in their system.
no i try it almost everyday....with different customers representatives.....they just dont accept =(

yea just like i thought. they have different billing than Sprint so i think only one pda they can activate is blackberry since its not really using FULL HTML browsing (maybe when they get update to bb 6.0 software)
Sorry bro.
Cant do it
Peace
There are only two ways to do this:
1) Have a contact in marketing or engineering that can authorize an ESN to be added to the system.
2) Have a working VM phone setup and clone the ESN.
The former is out of reach for most people and the latter is arguably illegal. So unless you're incredibly skilled (and a risk taker), I wouldn't count on it.

[Q] Can I use a data-only SIM in my phone?

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S without a data-connection, I really need a data-connection becouse I think the phone really needs a data-connection.
So here's my question:
Is it possible to get a subscription of a data-only SIM (the subscriptions they use for tablets etc.)
It is possible to use that kind of SIM/subscription in a phone?
Since I don't really make calls or send text's I really need that but I still want to be able to call and send text's.
Does anyone got a answer?
I think it would be helpful if you told us where you're from. I'm pretty sure the conditions for data-only plans differ from country to country.
I'm from The Netherlands.
Data only sim should work fine. Curious to know, why you need data only sim on a phone. It kills the purpose of having a phone.
I tried some time ago in HTC Desire and it didn't work, still don't know why. (it works with PC + USB Huawei modem on both Windows and Linux, i have E1752 model)
And as an answer for qustion "why do you need it?" for example in Poland there is company which for the government licence for some frequences is obligated to offer free internet for 3 years. Don't think its lika a fairytale - internet disconnects after one hour and the speed is limited, but still can be very usefull when you are tight on budget or just need to check something quickly.
PS. maybe i should add that in this case voice service is disabled on the sim card level (tele service (ts11)) what seems to be a reason for some devices not to work.
edit: finally it appears to work. Dosen't display signal strength but websites (slowly) load.
