After tweaking my brandnew HTC HD Touch with "HD Tweak", the battery icon in the headline has disappeared and the screen light is being dimmed after only two seconds each time I have chosen a window . Resetting the values in "HD Tweak" didn't solve the battery icon problem.
What can I do? I need the battery icon desperately!
problem solved
The battery icon came on again over night. Don't ask why, computing is magic
HD Tweak Corrupts
After installing HD Tweak on my HTC Touch HD, and after using the advised settings for tweaking TouchFlo, my messaging buttons didn't work any longer. The only remedy was a hard reset and a build-up again of the full set, which took me a full day with all options. I would advise to stay with the standard setting (refrain from tweaking although it is tempting), unless you are an expert at recovering your working registry. This actually means, stay away from HD Tweak until it is proven to be fully matured.

Hey all.
Got my Touch Cruise recently and so far my experiences are mixed. Here's some of the problems I've had - maybe someone can suggest fixes?
1. Battery life is awful. With Wi-fi enabled I get at most 2 days out of a full charge.
2. Screen sensitivity is poor. Even with the stylus a lot of times I have to press the same key twice or the accuracy isn't 100% - very annoying when sending text messages.
3. When on a call the screen goes into standby meaning you can't easily turn on the speakerphone, mute/hold it etc. I've tried turning off all the power saving options I can find but it still happens.
4. Ring volume levels aren't great. Annoying when I'm out and about or in the car with the stereo turned up.
5. Backlight is very poor outside, or even in the car - basically anywhere where it's exposed to sunlight.
I've changed the UI to the SPB one as I was recommended to do on another forum, and it helps a bit, but to be honest I'm very close to selling it on unless I can get the above issues fixed.
Any ideas? Thanks!
You should check out the many posts on this forum, many of them address your concerns. I'll see if I can take a crack at them:
1) Yes battery life is not great, I wouldn't leave Wifi turned on all day. The less stuff you are using the better, for example if you're not using Bluetooth don't leave it on. Same for the WLAN. Don't have applications constantly making data connections either (prob not applicable if you're on the wifi). An example of such an application would be the weather app. Search the forums for tips on improving battery life.
2) There are registry key entries that improve the touch sensitivity of the screen and TouchFLO. Try this thread as a start. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355277
3) There's a registry entry for this, don't use Kaiser Tweak. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355230
4) Are you sure the ring volume is to the max? Is the ringtone itself loud? I'm pretty sure there's reg entries for this too, check out the tips and tweaks thread.
5) Yeah if sunlight is hitting it directly the screen is not very visible. Try turning the brightness up to the max. Supposedly there are screen protectors out there that minimize the effect of glare although I haven't personally tried any except for the stock protector.
Overall your best bet is to read the forums and use the search function. You will almost always find someone who has asked the same question in the past. And welcome to xda. HTH.
Hi,
I've been experiencing some 'overnight' problems with the HTC Touch Pro lately.
The Pro is switched on for like 24/7 and works fine.
The thing is that it now and then happens that in the morning (so after a night standby time) the Touch Pro is all messed up.
Things that I have seen now:
- Device is turned off completely and needs to be turned on again (like the battery is down, but it's NOT).
- Device seems to have had a soft reset, since it shows the 'ENTER PIN' screen when I switch it on.
- TouchFLO 3D is all scrambled (see attached pictures for examples)
I think (read: hope) that it's all software and that it'll be fixed by a future ROM upgrade, since I've never had such problems with the Touch Diamond before. It's quite frustrating since the first two problems cause the fact that the phone is offline.
Do the problems sound familiar to you? I didn't find other topics concerning my experiences...
I think it may help if people also listed what apps they have installed. Up until last night, i had not had any issues with the device overnight. However after installing battery status last night, this morning the device had soft reset in the night. This is the first time in 3weeks.
The battery indicator is another issue which i think most people have. The indicator seems to get stuck and then when it updates it looks like a lot of battery has been used in a small amount of time. FOr instance my battery was reading 100% for over 4 hours then suddenly jumped to 95%. Also when charging i have had the TP stop charging at 87% and looking at the current level - only 80mA was being drawn, indicating that the battery was not charging. A soft reset later, corrected this. I am just wondering whether this is what is causing the soft resets in the night - ie the device detects that it has been charging for a long time with no battery level change and therefore resets. Just a hunch..........
- Device is turned off completely and needs to be turned on again (like the battery is down, but it's NOT).
I've had this a couple of times but hitting the power button doesnt work, I have to use the soft reset to get the phone back.
- Device seems to have had a soft reset, since it shows the 'ENTER PIN' screen when I switch it on.
Had the same thing a couple of times too.
- TouchFLO 3D is all scrambled (see attached pictures for examples)
Again, had this a few times
Not had TF3D scrambled, but had the other two. I'm pretty sure it has happened to me only when charging (other people report similar problems resuming from standby when charging). Perhaps, like me, you mainly charge the device at night?
I'm currently running with TF3D off (Settings, Today, Items, un-tick TouchFLO3D, tick some standard today items instead), and I haven't seen this problem since.
Cheers,
Graham.
hmmm...I'm very curious how this is coming...
Maby it are the installed programs that doesn't work correctly..
I'm curious if ya let the phone 'standard' so without installing all kinds of programs if the phone still has these problems.
Hi,
my display switches off after 10 seconds, no matter what options I make in the power settings.
The bug only occurs in the battery mode. When the mobile is charging, the display remains enlighted.
Any ideas how to reset/edit the battery/display settings of the htc polaris without hard resetting the whole PPC? (I would like to avoid a hard-reset because I have a lot of software on it. And I think the problem will reoccur if I restore the data with an backup tool.)
Perhaps there is a file which can be edited manually in the operating system?
Thank you,
Christian
If you have much software installed, it might be the case that a product overrides
the settings in Windows Mobile and enforces its own powersettings.
Example: S2U2 can manage display on/off/darken settings on its own.
Maybe you have such application installed.
Still not working.
Thank you for your help.
But hats obviously not the solution. I uninstalled some apps and went through the setting of EVERY app that is running. No way to change anything.
Once again: Is there a system-file one can edit?
I have exactly the same issue with my Touch Cruise, its not related to power settings 'cos I've got backlight to switch off at 1 minute and off at 2 minutes on battery power. There are no applications running in the background.
Anyone tried the new PocketShield 3 ? Very lite, power consumption excellent and very quick pop up of the slide to answer (compared to S2U2), and a lot of other very interresting features.
And if someone feels like it, we need nice themes for this one !
I haven´t tried it but it looks very impressive.
I tried it on my Touch Pro 2, but it does not work. I never see any locking, no 'screensaver' and it drains battery.
So I removed the program, but still my device drains battery power. In half a night the battery is exhausted!!
This is due to this program, because it's the only one I installed after some time.
Unfortunately I have no backjup, so a hard reset and reinstalling everything is needed - thanks, pocketshield!

I dought very much that it's csused by it.....it's made to be lite and not consume energy..
Well, as you stated here, you uninstalled PocketShield and battery drain persisted:

Uninstalled the program but still my battery drains rapidly, using 450mA all the time

Screen lock applications are always the first "suspects" on battery drain issues, but is not the case of PocketShield. If you continue experiencing that and you can isolate the cause to Pocketshield then this can help.
PocketShield 3 is AWESOME
I tried PocketShield 2 for my HTC Fuze and it didn't work well. I have since upgraded my phone (HTC Tilt2) and tried PocketShield 3 and it is an AWESOME application - just what the Tilt needed! Saves me from calling everyone and accidently answering calls.
Check it out at www(dot)pocketshield(dot)net!

Good Program
I can recommend Pocketshield.I was using s2u2,but I kept getting problems with it and had to keep reinstalling,I gave up with it,as no solution to the problems.I was happy to pay just over £6 for this as it works well. Thanks for the discount link
Nice program, i use it since 2 month and it worth the price. Interesting with the proximity sensor on HD2, nice skin, weekly update.
I've noticed that once phone is powered off/on after shutting down with battery dead that neither automatic sync nor background sync happens despite being ticked. I have to cycle the setting to kick it into life. Anyone else seen that?

Are you sure that this simply isn't they power save feature kicking in?
This can be configured using various settings from within
Settings > Power > Power save
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Power save works fine when the battery gets below 15% (in my case). The problem is it doesn't seem to come out of power save mode properly on its own when the phone has power in it again. I find the background and auto sync settings have been reticked, but they don't seem to be effective until I un-tick/re-tick them manually.

Oh, must admit that I have not noticed this, although I do use tasker application to enable and then disable my various radios and sync settings based on time in order to save battery

This is happening on my Desire S too.
Have you found a solution as of yet?

Nope. There's a LOT about the Desire S that kinda half works properly. I find its implementation really kind of sloppy. Definitely NOT a phone I go round recommending to anyone.
To ben_pyett's comment I considered Tasker. Apart from the fact that there are lots of comments that some of it's functionality is broken in 2.3 because Google messed with their APIs, when I thought about it I was pricipally going to get it to try and fix/work around all the stuff that doesn't work well in the Desire S, rather than add functionaliy. E.g.
- Auto display brightness always has the brightness too high (esp in dim ambient light) and there's no way to adjust its 'gain'
- Cycling Buetooth and WiFi and GPS availability (using various strategies based on location and time) only to mitigate poor battery life in the standard product
- Getting it to out of power save mode properly
- Stopping it making the SMS received notification noise when it was just receiving a txt delivery receipt
Sadly there's other stuff Tasker can't 'fix'.
I find myself rebooting the phone manually every two or three days when it begins to exhibit weird behaviour. It might be crashing and rebooting between those times too. I used to have a SIM PIN activated, but it would prompt for that before allowing me to even get calls after a crash, so I missed important calls before I noticed it was in that state. Now with the SIM PIN disabled it might still be crashing but I don't spot it at least.
I was a Blackberry user for years, and should never have changed. At least the BB was stable and all its features seemed to work properly (and had excellent battery life even with WiFi and Bluetooth on 24/7). I though the extra Google integration with Android was attractive and would be worth it. How wrong I was. :-(
