Hello,
Just want to say what amazing machines these are, very useful system.
I mainly use the Prophet (I've actually got a M600) for internet purpose and thought the WM6 interface may be better for this.
I have been looking at the thread about upgrading to WM6 and I needed to do something about the ROM as well.
According to the thread, I was required to do a HardSPL, I am using the G4 version, since mine is the G4 version.
I clicked on HardSPL.bat on my laptop computer, and then command prompt started working (at that time my M600 and my laptop is linked together).
I pushed a key to start and after a while of initialising, my Propet has the white screen and after a while the laptop says the software is not responding.
I have searched a lot of articles and could not find out why, I use Window Vista for my laptop. Could that be a problem?
I would really appreciate your help.
Many Thanks,
Angus
don't use vista man only xp don't ask me why its just what I was told
Cheers
Thanks mate, will get on a PC with XP, Vista is really getting on my nerve, its not that great and you can't do so much on it.
Cheers
so, did you get your M600 to work again?
Well, I'm glad I always back up stuff... I have installed Windows 7 on my laptop, and everything works well...except for syncing contacts and the calendar. It deleted everything I had on the WM unit (an Atom Life). All contacts and all appointments. It doesn't seem to work with Outlook 2003 at all. Anybody got this working, or am I just a too early adopter? I may of course set up a virtual machine with XP and run Outlook 2003 on that, but it's a bit of a hazzle.
Maybe Outlook 2003 is the problem...time to go office '07...trust me, it is so much better
Actually it's not. I really, really, really hate the interface. It's total crap, created for the mouse age and for people starting up with that version. I'm 40+ and firmly and forever stuck in the "everything worth doing is possible to do with a keyboard" age! And I have all shortcuts and menues in Office 2003 firmly in my fingers. I tried 2007 for two weeks, but I found out that I worked at least 40 % slower with that, after those weeks. That was of course better than the first few days, when everything took at least twice as long... But it still didn't seem to improve much more beyond the first week. So I went back to the image of my hard drive before I installed it.
But thanks a lot for the idea! It didn't occur to me that the problem could be there. I will try to install just Outlook 2007 and see if that helps! Maybe even the slightly newer version that comes with the Atom Life might help. I think I'll try that first. I'll let you know!
Edit: Make that slightly older... It's Outlook 2002 that comes with the Atom!
Solved! I wish everything was this easy (all though the easiest stuff can be the hardest to figure out). It only takes three steps to sync your WM unit with Windows 7 prebeta:
1. Download Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Vista.
2. Install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Vista.
3. Sync.
That's all that was needed. I thought that was already built in, but it isn't. So now I'm syncing like crazy with my beloved Outlook 2003!

Gotta agree. The biggest problem to me is having successfully mastered the way Office was, learning the new Office isn't something I want to spend my time doing.

The new Word and Powerpoint interfaces are totally different.

Hey, you don´t have to be that rude, we all know that sites, here the idea is to help, so if I ask this is to have the opinion from the one I´m asking to, so he can point me the site he downloaded and any other comments. So let´s try to be nice here.
This community is to help each other members, not to say how noob we are.
Good day to you

he cant answer you because the beta version of windows 7 hasnt even been released yet!
the version going round the various torrent sites has not been officially released by microsoft stay clear till official beta is released sometime in dec 2008
I found that Windows Mobile Device Center would crash every time I attempted to sync with a Windows 7 computer, the only way round this so far is to set the compatability program to Windows Vista RTM.
Now the phone happily syncs (and for some reason much faster than it did on Vista) on Windows 7 pre BETA.
Not trying to argue here but one 60 minute session of training on the Ribbon was all I needed. I have increased my productivity within Office as a result. I find that every command I need is one click away where as older versions needed multiple clicks.
The gentlemen who mentioned all keyboard controls I can't argue with but for my touch screen Office work the ribbon is bomb.
Hi everyone
Wondering if you can help with a tricky little problem which I am fearing there is no solution to... I've checked the forums and Googled it until I am blue in the face!!
Scenario:
PDA: iPAQ 614c running WM6.0
Work desktop: Running XP Sp2 with ActiveSync v3.8
Obviously not compatable!
I cannot upgrade from AS v3.8 to 4.5 as my work IT have locked everything down and will not allow upgrades at this time.
Highly unlikely I'm sure, but does anyone know whether it's at all possible to hack/roll-back/workaround etc allowing me to sync my WM6.0 PDA with ActiveSync 3.8.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Cheers
Steve

The short answer is "not likely"
However (and this is only a suggestion), try to see if you can find a portable version of ActiveSync 4.5 (to run it from a USB drive). I don't even know if someone has prepared one of these, but that might just solve your problem (if it exists of course )
Hope this helps...
Hey egz. Thanks for your swift reply!
Unfortunately (and rather typically) my work lock down all CD and USB drive access! Very frustrating indeed - I'm glad they trust us IT Developers!
Thanks again for your time, I think I am back to the drawing board.
would be awesome if someone did find a solution to this, as microsoft removed the sync over wifi after this edition of active sync

I feel your pain. It's exactly the same where I work. Sometimes we have to find ways around the security just to be able to do our jobs! It's ridiculous!!
,ok so im fairly new to windows mobile here, and recently i got my girlfriend a winmo phone with 6.1 on it and we added her yahoo email on there and everything and she can receive but not send. this is a common problem from what i have found, i was wondering if there was a post somewhere on here for a .cab fix or for perhaps different settings that need be applied?,
i appreciate all the help i can get as she is greatly disapointed by this and i want to make her winmo experience the best i can,
thanks
I fixed my problem doing a Hard Reset and uninstalling the Palm Translator software pt-BR. So, I'm still using 6.1 and I'm very happy with it.
Guys,
I'm in desperate mode on. It has been two days I updated my treo 750 to wm. 6.1 ( Treo750_OS5_2_19199WWE_STD). Everything went just fine. The system is nice and all. A little bit faster than the old 6.0.
But then the nightmare started: My "Notes" and "Task Manager" are there but don't work! I put Network frame 3.5... but nothing happened.
These are the two app I most use! I know there is a lot of other apps but I wanna use these ones that came with the wm.
I have two choices: downgrade to wm 6.0 or fix this issues. I've been without sleep for two days 'cause every procedure I try to downgrade fails! I tried this one ( Treo750_2_27_ROW_EN_DesktopUpdater) but it says "you already have a newer version installed". And yes, I tried changing the payloads archive.
I tried Cheetah Unlocker, SD card method but nothing happens, just the three color screen saying serial or usb. It also says:
CHEE100
IPL-0.20
CHEE100
SPL-1.40.OliNex
The info about my phone is:
Windows Mobile 6 Professional (the start screen says 6.1 Professional)
CE OS 5.2.19199 (Build 19199.1.0.0)
Software Version: TREO750-2.27-RWE
Firmware version: 1.12.0c.00
CC-CAP: GEN-ENG-010
I also tried T750URT but it does nothing but getting my firmware to 1.12.0c.00.
I took the 6.0 rom from here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335402
Are them really 6.0? I took the "Generic Rest-of-world - English"
Please guys help me. I've been searching over here and other forums and I just can't make it work. I chose this forum to subscribe and post 'cause it looks like the more expert. What am I doing wrong? I got this phone last weekend and I'm pretty new to this HTC world. My first smartphone! I live in Brazil and everything, even my 3G connection was working on the 6.0. This device came from USA 1 year ago and the last owner (my friend) just put the portuguese-br translator and used it.
I think I'm not forgetting any information. Thanks in advance. Going to try to sleep.
Peterson
I'm using the same rom and the two app. work fine.
After search in the internet I found this link for rom 6.0
http://depositfiles.com/ru/files/1336491
but first check what is wrong with the 6.1 rom ...
One more thing - there are softwares that you can download and do the same job even better...( replace "Notes" and "Task Manager")...
one more link for rom 6
http://rapidshare.com/files/173145556/Treo750_2.23_ROW_WM6.rar
My 6.1 ROM is working superbly, +some registry edits to speed it up even more! It's more likely, that something went wrong in the flashing process. Just try again the same 6.1...
Thanks!
Thank you all for your words. You won't believe what happened.
@libal
This morning I was in classroom and I had a crazy idea. I pressed the red button (to end calls) and reset at the same time and erased all the data. Guess what? Everything is working fine! But I sure remember about doing this same reset stuff after upgrading. Anyway, I didn't put the translator to PT-BR yet. I'll try now and if anything goes wrong, I'll just reset it again and leave in English. English wouldn't be a problem to me as you see. I'm thinking about my wife (she's still learning English).
I wanna thank you both 'cause I just gave it a try after reading that you were not having problems with the same phone. Thanks for your time and patience.
@otoinsa
Is this safe? I mean, editing registries to get a faster wm? Can you tell me which mods or just point the link about what you did? Thanks again.
By editing the registry you can customize a lot of stuff (for me replacing left soft key's permanent "e-mail" to SMS was a must. Now under "SMS" I have a submenu containing "e-mail" AND "messaging"), also disable a lot of useless windows mobile features, or enable (power management - longer lasting battery).
To some extent it's completely harmless, just try to avoid experimenting with it too much! There are a lot of instructions on the web, most common keywords used for search are "windows mobile registry hacks" or "pocket pc registry edits". It's best to add the version number (WM 6.1 for example) when searching. Also don't confuse your Treo 750 with Windows Mobile Smartphones - they don't have a touchscreen and those run a different type of Windows Mobile. It's almost the same, however there are some differences...
Most of the older WM regedits will work on 6.1. Also Treo has some Palm-specific registers. Just for starters, here's a link:
http://pocketnow.com/wiki/Windows_Mobile_6.1_Registry_Edits#Power
Wish you luck and hope you'll help to keep the 750 alive in this forum! Post your success afterwards.
I found it!
I found the problem. After doing all the customization and testing all the apps, I installed the translator Pt-BR from Palm's site. Guess what? All the apps I mentioned before stopped working. I did the uninstall process and guess what again? Everything was in English again and most important: working!
So this is the trick: don't use Palm Translator (at least pt-BR) if you are using a non-official wm6.1 rom.
The guy who sold me this Treo has the Treo Pro 850 now. Such a nice device, but 750 was my first pocket pc and I won't forget about that.
Gotta change the post title to resolved lol. But don't lock it yet. Maybe someone else may has a experience to share with us.
