Not sure if it has been asked here yet but is it possible to get the software from omnia that shows an animation when rotating your device (or sliding out the hardware keyboard)?
An example video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk1ZF3bcPMo
I doubt that it would work on other devices since already the screen resolution and 'horse power' is quite different. It would have to be entirely rewritten in order to suit lower cpu and screen size.

We're all seeing fancy phones with accelerometers that can proudly switch between landscape and portrait modes coming out these day, regardless of whether they have a kb or not. That got me thinking. Why do phones have a portrait mode at all?
A major reason is historical, of course, and the current rational is "it's always been done like that". There was never a landscape candybar phone. I suspect this has something to do with the positioning of an old text-only screen above the keypad.
But now this is no longer applicable with the advent of screens that are also the input method. For some tasks, landscape is clearly superior (watching videos springs to mind). Some favour portraits - notably, some text lists. Others are completely orientation-agnostic (like home screens).
Physically, holding a device horizontally is no harder that doing go vertically and the thumb can easily reach all parts of regular-size phones' screens. Landscape orientations can be additionally used double-handed.
So far, the match is "even", but still, portrait seems to hold a dominant position. As we use our devices more for media (which prefers landscape) and text-input (same, via a physical or virtual keyboard). I do think, when using my phones, that more can be done sensibly in a landscape mode. Landscape screens also approximate our computer monitors more closely, which may make future convergence easier.
Any thoughts about how the future of mobile screen orientations will go?
I only use landscape mode on my phone for video since the top and bottom bars eat up too much real estate in that mode.
orientation can be changed under settings
and even if it don't keep it after a soft-reset
it would be pretty easy to make a program
which put it back to landscape
but many programs would not be compatible
and as stated no real benefit apart from video
and games being as most devices buttons are laid out

I'm thinking though that because of the way the phone was developed. If they wanted to, UI designed would quite easily put at least the top bar on one side. The bottom bar would be more tricky though. I suspect you'd do away with it and opt for a different navigation/menu paradigm. Or at least make fuller use by offering more menu options when there's more space available.

This is what I'm not so sure about. These two are true, of course, but I suspect that the more we start inputting text on our devices, the more we'll use a landscape-style keyboard. When you start doing that in the calendars, SMS apps and other everyday tasks, having a phone in landscape suddenly becomes more appealing. 90% of the time I'm starting up my Tytn, it's to do something that requires some kind of text input. When this is the case, I'm wasting time starting in portrait then moving to landscape.
This is why I prefer CLAMSHELL devices or anything with a slide out tilting keyboard that would allow the screen to orient itself to landscape view. Unfortunately, there are no good clamshell out there except for an outdated HTC Universal.
is there any way at all to disable the screen from dimming on backgrounds with too much white? i think its ridiculous that they built this functionality into the phone without an option to turn it off, is there anyway to tweak the registry? i got the phone because of the screen but if i cant enjoy bright backgrounds n what not theres not much point
There is a option for that. "Screen brightness", switch from Auto to Low/Med/High
no thats not the issue, i have it on high with auto off, yet it still dims when theres too many white pixels on the screen, apparently its built into the samsung driver for the screen, really considering returning it due to this

I immediately noticed this effect when testing an Omnia 7 in a mobile phone shop here in Switzerland and I found that quite annoying.
Try moving from page to page in the Office app. You'll notice a decrease in screen brightness when more white pixels are shown. At least that seems to be how the built-in algorithm works.
I prefer the 4.3" screen of the HTC HD7.
Hi,
I recently bought a Tolino Tab 8 with a Intel Atom Z3735 processor, running on KitKat 4.4.4. Everthing works fine but every time i switch between apps the screen brightness changes depending on the background of the app e.g. when i open twitter (mostly white background) the screen brightness goes up and when i go back to the home screen (black background) the brightness goes down. No matter if i enabled auto dimming in the settings or not. I've read that has something to do with Intels Display Power Saving Technology which is used to extend the battery life of the tab. I tried to edit the build.prop (mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65422943&postcount=1786 ) to turn it off but nothing worked so far. I also tried to find the driver settings itself ( mentioned here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo...Tab-S8-50-Screen-Dimming-Problem/td-p/1873040 ) but could'nt find the right settings.
The Tablet was manufactured by Trekstor if this matters somehow.
Hope you guys can help me to solve it.
I also have a minor bug where i can't change video resolution in the youtube app above 720p even the Display has the resolution of 1920x1200 which i think has something to do with 4.4.4.
hello everyone,
I've a question I'd like to ask regarding android, as I'm not that experience with coding, so I was hoping someone could help me with this.
to make a long story short: I've an android stick that I want to use for a Magic Mirror, but those sticks do not have a gyroscope sensor (for obvious reasons) so the screen is always set to horizontal mode. you can change the screen orientation through basic android configurations or apps, but all that does is setting the width of the screen to 50% and the height to 200%, where I really need the screen to actually rotate 90 degrees (as for the mirror I need to use the screen of the stick vertically)
my question now is if it's possible to perhaps edit the android code, through rooting or something alike, where I can control the screen properties, so I'd be able to actually rotate the screen 90 degrees.
I have a element el4kamz6517 with a smashed screen, I was attempting to use the mainboard on a different display I was successful to a point. Around 2017 was when 3d tv's were falling out of vogue my TV was not a 3d tv but had a 3d capable panel I do not know for 100% certain I am correct but i believe the failure here is the fact i'm trying to display a signal for a 3d panel onto a 2d one. Tv's with a 3d panel in them seem to be exceedingly difficult to come by in 2022. The original panel was a InnoLux V650DJ4-QS5 Rev T1
Can I change the display drivers or whatnot in my mainboard to correct this issue?
linked below is a different forum where i was discussing it somewhat below that is what the image looks like when displayed on a different panel
Interfacing my lost AMazon fire TV with a new panel?
I think you might be onto something there all the panels are capable of a higher refresh rate than 60hz and i know for a fact the fire menu is 60hz but the other two panels are not 3d capable. it would make sense that the 3d panels expect a different signal and the resulting segnel may look...
