A couple of questions:
What ROM are you using?
What version of Windows is your main computer running?
Has ANYTHING changed between it working and it not? (Automatic updates, new software installed, installed drivers for a new USB device, etc)
Does the PDA recognise that it is charging/has external power?
Can you borrow a different cable\somebody else's computer to test it on?
Just as a test, try going into your settings, in the connection tab and go into "USB to PC". Try ticking\unticking the checkbox labeled "Enable advanced network functionality"
If the cable is broken, best thing to do is to buy a new one - its probably not worth the money to repair it (try looking on EBay - any mini-usb cable SHOULD suit the Universal)
(ps. are you sure you should be posting in here? I think you probably should have put it into the main section for Universals)
hi TehPenguin
thx for your reply
as i said before i am a total newbie and so dont know were to check wot ROM i am using.from where can i check.the fone come with WM6 installed(it does not have video calling however)
i am runnig windows xp sp2 on my pc.
when i plug in wall charger ,pda recognizes it
no mew software were installed from the time it was working(after that i installed a couple of spb programmes via bluetooth)
i tried my cable on my fiends foned and it worked,i tried my fone with my friends cable and it didnt work, that is why i am thinking it is something to do with my mini usb connector.
can some admin move this post to appropriate section or do i repost there again?
tnx again

Okay, Windows XP is a good start - and its nice to see that you did some test to figure out where exactly the bug is
I find it unusual that your phone came with WM6 already on it - unless it was second hand... You can check your windows version by going into the settings, under the "System" tab and opening "About", at the top of this it should have "Windows Mobile(R) 6 Professional" or something like that
Here are some more things to try:
Have the phone off and disconnected, then plug in the cable (this seems to work for me if I have problems)
Go into your settings, under the connection tab and go into "USB to PC". Try unticking the checkbox labeled "Enable advanced network functionality"
I think that the second one is most likely the way to fix it. Also what version of ActiveSync are you running (At the top of ActiveSync there is a "Help" menu, select the "About Microsoft ActiveSync" - this should give you version info). If the activesync is anything less than version 4.5 - look for an update on Microsoft's website
And one last thing - no offence, but - one thing I don't like is people using "IM spk" for forums. I understand if you aren't fluent in English but please try...
Enjoy!
TehPenguin
thanks again for your help.
first I would like to say that i do not know what you mean by IM spk ?sorry if I broke any rules
the phone is not new,i bought it off e-bay
I am running activesync 4.5 on my pc which if i am not mistaken is the latest version available.
I will check about what version i have later,as I dont have phone with me currently, but what I can say is the version i have does not support video calling, and it does not have the Phone pad facility in the entering text options.
No harm done with the "IM spk" (its just one of the things I don't like - I'm sure you read my post on the Ultimate ROM)
Did you try any of my other suggestions?
Also, you may wish to upgrade your Universal to a new ROM (I believe that Ivan is uploading one as I type) or go to an official WM5 ROM from a manufacturer - it is possible that the ROM you are using is defective...
just to let you know
problem fixed.it was a hardware problem after all, took it to a local technician who fixed it up for me
all back to normal now
thanks for your help m8
connector broken
The connector on side of my universal appears to have come dislodged and can't charge

That's for a Wallaby. The Uni has a USB socket soldered straight to it's mobo. It depends if the damage has ripped any tracks from the mobo. It may be a straight solder replacement, or you may need to follow the tracks slightly to solder further along them. I'm sure a competent solderer would be able to help if you showed them it. Or upload a picture of the damage and we can all have a look

Tytn 2--> use of GPS on Car PC

Hello Folks,
maybe someone can help.
I have tytn 2, and was wondering, is there a way to use internal gps as gps that would be used on Car PC?
I have a centrafuse program on my CPC, and before I buy usb gps, I would like to check all ideas before spending some money for nothing.
So, to connect Tytn with PC, PC recognizes USB GPS, centrafuse conects with it and I have a navigation!?
Possible?

Bluetooth File Transfer

I'm fed up with the clunky way which bluetooth transfers files between my MS laptop and my HTC Touch Pro (and any other device it would seem).
I'm fed up with three or four attempts to get it to work in the first place, I'm fed up with having to approve every single data connection - I have after all paired the devices, please just transfer the files.
Does anyone know of a decent bit of software, either winmo or Windoze that will allow me to browse the other device, grab or send the files I want and just do it without all the fuss I seem to be getting?
Thanks in advance.
get wifi remote access. search for it.

I had it, but couldn't get it to work on an ad-hoc (peer to peer) connection, then it stopped working altogether.
Maybe I should try again...thanks.
maybe you should just get a usb card reader. or an adapter if your laptop has a card reader already.
I have a USB card reader, and leads to connect the phone to the computer, but this is the 21st century folks, and I have two devices that can connect without wires, but it's about as easy, and friendly as, well, something that isn't easy or friendly.
The phone should see the computer, and vice versa, and file transfer should be as easy as if they were the same device.

I have:
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
v7.00.08(T)
it's really clunky. (I might have said).

Will this work?

Will this allow the HD2 to make wi-fi n phone calls? To some this may be a goofy question but if this item is windows as the HD2 is & I connected them both with an adapter would this allow the HD2 to make wireless wi-fi n phone calls? It seems a simple idea but my knowledge is short at my age.
If it doesn't why not? I haven't left windows yet & I'm so close to getting another phone & I just want to make sure what TMO phone to get. TIA.
No, the adapter is for windows operating system not windows mobile.
Thanks but if I did connect the two what would happen? Nothing?
Just trying to find a way to make the Leo wi-fi call. Thx.

This item is just to connect a laptop or PC to an existing wifi network. The only way it could be used in a connection between an HD2 and a computer is if you have the HD2 setup as a wifi router and you connected the pc to that....which is pretty much the exact opposite of how you would need the connectivity setup. But, it's still all kind of moot...that adapter won't do anything to enable voip calling on the HD2
Thank you sirphunkee, to do a proper reserch I just ordered an HD2 for .01 at Amazon a few minutes ago. I figure if I have the phone it would be much easier to find a way to solve this problem. Besides for .01 what am I going to lose.
Agreed your answer being moot is correct I do agree. Thanks.

[Q] Cradle? Or dock? And what does "sync" actually means?

I want to buy this one:
http://www.sunnysoft.sk/zbozi/105PK...sation-xe-s-hdmi-vystupem-horizontalni-1.html
But I was wondering: What "sync" means?
Sync is short for Syncronization
Sensationaly sent from my Sensation.
I know that. But what synchronization stands for? Sync of what from what to what?

(A link to the manufacturer's product page for those who don't speak Slovak:http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1315)
Its probably a reference to the HTC Sync, which synchronizes between your phone & Outlook via USB.
[off-topic] If you were to ask my opinion (you didn't, but you get it anyway ), HTC Sync is a waste when Android phones come with the ability to synchronize wirelessly and automatically through Google to Outlook. But I suppose HTC was covering its bases for those who don't want to shoot all that information through Google's servers.[/off-topic]
But I will be able to transfer data when I connect cradle to my laptop, yes?

Yes.
It's just a charging cradle which you plug a USB cable into. If you connect the cable from the dock to your laptop you can copy files between the laptop and the phone.
I have the same dock in work and I just hooked a USB power supply to it and use it just for charging.
Well I'm not. It only charges, phone won't give me choice what type of connection I want. Bummer.

Really depends what ROM you are using.
If you have a stock rom (Original HTC ROM):
Drag your notification bar down and have a look around... select connection type... there should be a list of options including Charge only, USB Storage and HTC Sync?!?!
BTW, if you want to sync this way then you also need the HTC Sync program on your PC.
I don't use Sense so I can't help too much, Sorry.
If you have a custom ROM then read the thread for the rom.
EDIT: I just noticed, that cradle has 5v in and HDMI out, it doesn't say that it's suitable for USB Data transfer?!
Hope this helps
Nope, no connection type. Just charging.

That cradle only allows you to charge and connect via HDMI - NOT Sync!
Use a standard USB Cable and test!
Hope this helps
This is EXACTLY the reason why I was asking what sync means.
