Hi. I have a titan(alltel) and am using the official wm6.1 update rom. I've been looking for a working wmodem app for it. Internet Sharing, while some many seem to like it isn't a good app for me. If the connection drops or the device drops the connection due to overheating, it does not recconect on its own and offers no options to do so. With wmodem I could set my redial options on my desktop, and have it redial after a while and thus not need to babysit my downloads, which usually run overnight while I sleep. I've searched the forums and haven't found anything, and I've searched the net and found a few possibilities but they didn't work, most likely because they were for different device or different windows mobile version, but hey I was desperate so I tried them anyway. I don't want to flash a new rom, I like my setup and I like my gps setup (8 to 10 satellites in about 15 seconds without the use of quickgps or like software eating up my memory). Anyone know where I can find the right wmodem app for my device.

Hello... I am having an issue with GPS and wth email.
GPS.... dosent seem to be working, it looks like it is only triangulating on my location of cell with google maps and gps photo wont connect. Are one of the radios specifically dedicated to GPS? I assume this is the problem because after flashing a rom which changed my radios gps stops working.
With email. everytime I send a message a copy of it is sent directly to my inbox as if i sent the email to myself, a copy also goes to the person I intend to send it to... How do I stop this, cannot find an option for it and it doesnt seem like this is a feature of GMail.
And yes I have read tons of posts on the forum and havent seen any help for this, specifically the email thing... I might be able to get this gps working on my own but help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
GPS will take a loooong time to connect if you are not using QuickGPS periodically (weekly). Check on your last update. I also assume you are telling GoogleMaps to utilize your GPS (main menu) rather than Google's location triangulation. Your radio shouldn't have anything to do with the GPS working. I have flashed virtually every radio and ROM here and never had trouble with GPS.
Please give some more details on your e-mail. Gmail, but are you using the standard mail software? Are you on a Tilt or an HTC branded device? Which ROM? I'm using Gmail with the standard software and have never seen anything like this through many ROMs.
this is the rom: 3.03.405.0 (Radio 1.64.06.04) I have a tilt. I setup the email by clicking setup new email account, then also checked through the options afterwards and theres nothing that indicates it would be sending a duplicate to myself.
Yes i have quick gps and it is updated. It seemed like gps connected with google maps but it took a while ... after clicking get gps (knew you had to do this). When I go to the gps photo it just says initializing GPS... and never does anything else.
Thanks.

I've never used QuickGPS and haven't had a problem. However, I use googlemaps, virtualgps and earthcomber (all free) no problems!

QuickGPS usually runs automatically in the background. I just wanted to assure that McEven had it installed and running. If your GPS isn't taking 5 minutes or so to get your location when first activated, you're using QuickGPS and don't know it. Every GPS uses some sort of ephemeris data updating process to speed up the process of finding your location. If not, your GPS would have to compute the locations of the satellites...which takes a much longer time. Open QuickGPS and see when the last update was. It's almost certainly been updated within the last week. It needs an update of ephemeris data at least every 8 days to be assured of correct data.

Hi guys! I can't seem to get a GPS signal on my touch cruise using Mapking!!
Is there any programs out there to check if my GPS device is working fine ?
I think my GPS unit is spoiled! How come ?!
Anyone have this problem before ? I even downloaded a separate program call GPS Viewer and it didn't seem to get any signals at all!
Daft question, but have you gone through the setings to make sure the gps is turned on.
Also go outside to get a lock on the gps, its works better.
Did you check the GPS settings in the control panel?
You have to set and then provide the correct COM port in order to get any GPS software to work with an in-built GPS device.
its on auto detect. And previously i was using it perfectly well! it just happened today! Then i have no idea why...
Did you update QuickGPS? Unless its broken, the GPS unit will eventually find a signal. It just takes a while (up to 3 minutes) which might be longer than the timeout in the app. If you update QuickGPS, then it will find a signal within 30 seconds usually. Perhaps your QuickGPS download is past expiration date. Usually, its set to get new QuickGPS data everytine you active sync by default. maybe you havent' activesync'd in a while (last week or so) or you need ot manually update it.
Mapking Fix
Look on Mapking's website:
http://www.mapasia.com/AD/HTC/HTC_TYTNII_ENG.htm
They're reporting a bug and a link to a fix for the gps in HTC units that shipped with their software bundled.
Hope this helps.
Lom
I'm using MapKing 2007. Not the MapKing R12 that came bundled with it...
And i try to use with GPS Viewer that has nothing to do with Mapking and it also didn't detect any signals.
Could it be the hardware has spoilt ?
Sorry - not a development issue as such but I'm hoping you guys can help with another HTC Touch Pro (A)GPS query. I have read a number of other posts on this but they appear to be inconclusive and I'm not sure if the problems widely reported elsewhere are supposed to have been resolved in the latest shipped ROMS.
I'm experiencing very long acquisition times with the internal GPS on the O2 XDA Serra (just released in the UK), to the point where the GPS is virtually unusable. Cold lock can take anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes, even in open ground in good weather with a clear view of satellites. By comparison, a Garmin eTrex Vista in the same location gets a lock in seconds. I never expected the XDA Serra to equal the performance of a dedicated handheld GPS but I would have expected it to get an initial lock in less than 5 minutes in clear sight.
If and when a lock is acquired, it seems to hold OK and I've experienced no major lag problems.
I'm using Tom Tom Navigator 5, Memory Map Pocket Navigator OS 5 and Google Maps. I've also installed a couple of GPS utilities from this forum - Chartcross GPS Test 1.04 and the HTC GPS Tool v1.1.1.0. These are all configured to point to COM4 at 38400 baud (as per advice in this forum), and I've never had a problem detecting the GPS.
What is bizarre and frustrating is that there is absolutely no mention of GPS functionality in the supplied O2 manual, other than a brief warning about not operating a GPS while driving. The XDA Serra is not supplied with any GPS software or utilities out of the box other than an "External GPS" utility in the System folder, which is completely undocumented. I'm unclear in what circumstances you are supposed to use this utility, but I'm assuming it allows you to set a hardware COM port for an external GPS device (presumably bluetooth?) and select whether or not it is managed by Windows. I've tried turning this off but it appears to make no difference.
I'm aware that the XDA Serra is AGPS capable but I'm unclear exactly what this means in this context (i.e. which particular AGPS technique it actually uses), and how - in the absence of an explicit Program or System setting - my installed GPS applications are supposed to invoke it. I have checked the relevant registry settings in HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS:
EnableAGPS 0x00000000 (0)
GPSMode 0x00000002 (2)
Number Fixes 0x3b9ac9ff (9999999999)
QoS Accuracy 0x00000032 (50)
QoS Performance 0x00000059 (89)
Server IP 10.1.101.63
Server Port 0x00001cb6 (7275)
TimeBetweenFixes 0x00000001 (1)
... and can see that the AGPS function is currently disabled (the default), but is this supposed to be enabled programmatically by the GPS application, or do you have to set it explicitly? If the latter, how can you do this other than by hacking the registry?
I have followed advice in this forum about disabling GPS logging (it was disabled by default) using the Schapman Advanced Configuration Tool v3.3.0.0. I have tried enabling the AGPS function using a registry editor, but again it appears to make no difference. In addition, I could see no evidence of it having downloaded an emphemeris file anywhere (unless it's hidden in system ROM), which I presume is how it is supposed to work? If I enable it, doesn this necessarily mean that any of my GPS apps will actually use it?
I have tried using SeaSGEE to download emphemeris data to no avail - it downloads what looks like a good packedEmphemeris.ee file OK but it makes absolutely no difference to performance. I have since uninstalled this and deleted the //windows/packedEmphemeris.ee file.
Finally, if I connect an external bluetooth GPS adapter (the Emtac BTGPS) on COM6 I generally get a good cold lock in less than a minute. I used this all the time on my old XDA Mini S (HTC Wizard) and never had a problem.
So, basically, I'd like to understand how native AGPS works on the Touch Po, how it is supposed to be invoked by GPS applications, and whether there are any tweaks I can try to improve performance over and above the ones I've already tried. Is this a problem that is likely to be improved in subsequent ROM or Radio versions or is this simply a fundamental limitation of a crappy internal GPS chip?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
AGPS
AGPS is basically a utility for operator to be able to track your device for various local ads etc. It uses servers to track instead of GPS.For example Google maps would be able to track your position inside building but with tolerance of a few miles (I guess it is your closest tower) Seems to be some kind of bug when operating with regular GPS (in my case it shuts off GPS every 10-15 seconds making Tomtom unusable. You should see settings for AGPS at Settings-System-AGPS. Disable both tabs. On tomtom use other wired GPS receiver at Baud rate 38400 com port 4. restart after setting AGPS. It did work for me.I have Fuze - same as HTC Touch Pro. Let me know if it works better.
This is exactly how the Fuze is acting. Cold locks (after a soft reset or power off/on) take up to 30 minutes to get. But once you do get a lock, things work as they should. Even AT&T sales reps sat there with me, with 3 different Fuzes and witnessed all three phones doing the same thing. It must be the built in GPS chipset. The Sprint Touch Pro I had for a week, never had any cold lock issues.
I was worried that O2 had modified versions without the GPS module becuase I have never managed to get a lock with the device. Nomatter what I do GPS doesn't seem to work.
It is annoying as I've managed to fix every other problem the Serra ships with. Including getting rid of the default home page for opera when launched vial TFL3D. That was a huge pain in the ass as the XML file cannot be deleted or modified easily, it is an undying file. Damn file protectiona and access rules on WM devices.
is there still isues with gps on this phone?
i'm due an upgrade, currently using a diamond, and find gps is fantastic, locks in a couple of seconds nearly everytime, even after not using it for week still seems to get a fix in under 20 seconds, was looking at the touch hd as i thought it was essentialy the same phone, buf beefed up a bit, but i use gps 3-4 hours everyday, so far this phone seems perfect apart from the gps issues..
i've tried searching but can't find any clear information about it, seen various tweaks but no one can confirm it definatly works, my phone's primary use is gps, would i be a fool to upgrade to the serra?

OK. I had the same problem, never got locked on GPS.
It is ALL software issue. Flash different rom, new radio (recommend 20M1) and use tomtom7. Older tomtoms for some reason do not invoke gps receiver on touch pro. GPS on serra works perfect, on mine it takes about 20-30 seconds to get satellite lock. Relax Just flash rom different that the o2 one.
The GPS is rock solid on my XDA Serra with fast GPS start-up times with the PROven ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444653.
I did have GPS problems with the standard O2 ROM, as others have said it's a software issue.
All issues have been SOLVED
Hi. just go to this post and you will have a gps lock in a matter of seconds. enjoy. thanks

Go to http://www.my-xda.com/software_updates.jsp to download the latest software updates for every O2 XDA mobile!
Yes I just updated my ROM and the difference is HUGE. Almost instant connection with my GPS.
Yes, apparently O2 removed QuickGPS because at some point they planned to enable their own AGPS servers, but did not get round to it and forgot to add back QuickGPS.......

hi the avatar

just when i thought i had sorted it following other suggestions on this forum, beginning to think the gps was single use
cheers

I want to say I love this site and have learned alot. I have tried for quite a time to get GPS to work on the xv6700, tho it seems much disinformation has been spread as far as a GPS being within. I have torn down this phone to see for myself if the MSM6500 was in this, which it is. Therefore I believe it does have this ability. I recently installed a program called WPS by Skyhook, which is a Wireless Positioning System. Now just a footnote; my phone has no carrier, I only use it for surfing the internet with wifi. To utilize WPS the site tells me I would need an active internet connection, however it stills works with no connection!!! It seems as if I have gotten the internal gps to wake up. I use Open Mobile Maps and it works excellent. I pickup satellites with Google Maps just to test at home (so far as many as 10 satellites). Can somebody else please duplicate this to verify exactly what is going on here? I just want to emphasize that this is with NO CONNECTION to ANYTHING!!!
I have problem with my Froyo Android and 2.6.25 kernel (but it was similar on .32).
I can turn ON WiFi and connect to my home network, but it has problems with loading pages (it wont load page at all most of the time, I only loaded google.cz once) and I cant even login into Google acc and Market.
My WiFi is working on notebook or other phone, but cant make it work on my Polaris and Android.
Anyone know how to fix this? Maybe some WiFi settings that Android or Cruise cant handle? Or some other fix or suggestion?
Thank you for all tips...
it wasn't kernel releated, try to change release (Fresh Froyo, Scoot's, Clemsys's)
I have tryed a few builds, but it seems to be allways the same. Wifi is connected but cant load any pages, when I restarted phone, it loads 1 page just after restart and then nothing again all the time (I cant even reload the same page again).
Its probably some settings or maybe hardare problem? I really dont know what to do or how could I test where is a problem. Probably only option is to flash WM 6.5 back and try to do something there... but still I dont know how to test if its maybe hardare problem.
So I have tryed WM 6.5 again and Wi-Fi works great there. I am glad its not hardware problem, but still it would be great to make it work on Android.
I cant access Market or sign-in account and Android is useless because of that, since USB connection also doesnt work :-/
So after I was sure WiFi is working in WM 6.5, I have tryed another Android again.
With clemsyn's RC1 build and 2.6.32 kernel I was able to at least log into Google account and access market. But WiFi is very slow only 1kB/s at max and drops a lot. I wasnt able to download Opera from market after 3hrs mainly because of disconnects. Sometimes it also crashes and show startup animation.
Now I know problem is in Android OS only, but I still dont know what to do to fix it or if it can be fixed at all (if not I have to flash WM back again :-/).
So noone has an idea?
I would be glad for any tips, because I tryed everything I found, but Internet is still dead :-/
Also with Radio 1.58.21.23 you still have that problem?
Yes, even with this radio ( 1.58.21.23) it remains exactly the same. I didnt re-flash system after latest radio update, because I dont have enough battery left for flash, so I hope it wont mind.
I will re-flash soon anyway because I am trying different setups all the time now
Only little difference seems to be between 2.6.32. and 2.6.25 kernels. While in .25 it never loads any page, in .32 I am able to load google homepage after a lot of trying (but nothing else).
I am allways downloading these throught Atools, because I dont know how to prepare different POLAIMG.NBH by myself, so I only tested two versions available there.
I dont know if it doesnt load page at all or if its sooo slow that loading timeouts. Is there any utlity where I could see if packets are being send or received? On the other hand it doesnt solve anything anyway.
But it can connect to WiFi site and with .32 it even transfer google page sometimes, so it somehow "works" and transfers some packets occasionally.
Sad thing is, that there arent much settings in Android system, so I cant play with that. I also tryed different settings on my WiFi router, but it didnt help at all.
if you use adb and ping google did you have time out?
I never used adb, but I cant find any console or link to shell in my ROM.
Should I install Android SDK and adb driver in Win or can I access it somehow in my phone?
I have downloaded "Better Terminal Emulator Pro" and "Terminal Emulator" and installed from SD card.
In command line I write
Code:
su
ping 74.125.87.104
after a few tries where I get 100% packet loss, I manage to get better results:
Code:
--- 74.125.87.104 ping statistics ---
72 packets transmitted, 9 packets received, 87% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 158.338/328.306/1143.300 ms
similar on other website, also only after a few tries:
Code:
--- 77.75.72.3 ping statistics ---
51 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 94% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 1003.263/1090.418/1141.900 ms
Seems to be a problem with the connection with router...
How many devices are connected to it?
Do all devices work good?
Router itself isn't a problem. Only 1 or 2 devices are connected to it and they are all mine (notebook and mobile phone).
I thought it may be a problem, that Android port for Polaris cant handle my settings, so I tried different settings, but it was the same.
Router works well with LG Optimus One (Froyo) and even with my Polaris, only with WM 6.5.3 ROM and of course my notebook works well too.
I wonder where could be the problem as most of Polaris users have working WiFi. I dont thinkI have any different part of hardware in it and I changed all software related things many times ROM, radio, kernel.
PS: results above are with kernel 2.6.32 I believe with 2.6.25 I would have 100% packet loss all the time. As change of kernel is only thing so far that have some impact on this issue I think it could be with some setting in there. I dont know what things can be changed in there or how I could try different versions, so I only tried three versions (two that I can select in Atools) and one that came with Eclair ROM.
So I have found where can be a problem and it rly seems to be hardware releated.
As I said before, in WM 6.5 WiFi works well, but I found its only because there is option to set "Best Wi-Fi Performance (May consume more power)" in advanced settings of WiFi.
When I turn this option off, I get similar results like in Android. Wi-Fi is very slow, so it wont even load page.
I cant find similar option in Android settings, so I want to ask if there is similar option in Android hidden somewhere or maybe some shell command or file edit, how I can change it?
try to extract wifi_levels.sh from K_K vaniljeclair and change the level.
Hi,
I set it to "extreme" and it seems to be working!!!
Thank you VERY much for all your help.
