Does anybody know if there is a standard, published way (or at least a limited number of ways) to retrieve device hardware information on a Windows Mobile device? I'm thinking of the ROM version, Radio version, and the PRL version (on CDMA devices). I am mostly familiar with HTC devices, and am not sure if every WM device has a Device Information program or an equivalent of ##RTN# (on a Sprint WM device).
Thanks for any ideas,
Todd

After a bit of investigation I have come to the conclusion that the smartphone version of WM5 does not supports browsing windows networks. The main reason for this as far as I can see is the non inclusion of the libraries-
redir.dll
netbios.dll
in the smartphone rom. It is these dll's that implement SMB/CIFS.
Why MS have not included these dll's is beyond me as nearly all WM5 smartphones have wifi and all smartphones can create VPN connections.
Is this just to make PPCs more attractive?
Am I right? Is network browsing not supported in WM5 smartphones? Could getting hold of the ARMVI versions of the dll's be of any help.
Any help greatly appreciated
can any one plzz help if i can i put windows mobile on my motorola A1000. i'd appreciate suggestions and ROMs
cheerz
No, it's a Symbian OS phone with a totally different architecture and screen resolution to Windows Mobile devices.
Also, unless Motorola developed a build for it, nobody else would have all of the necessary drivers etc to make it work.
Windows Mobile isn't a generic OS that can be installed on any device, it is built on top of an embedded platform specific to device hardware.
where can i get the latest symbian upgrade for it then..........its locked to three network........i wanna DE-brand it and put on a new symbian OS so it can accept other sim cards
cheers
I have no idea, this site is for XDA devices, mainly Windows Mobile, but with a few able to run Linux.
Perhaps if you look for a Symbian UIQ forum?
What you're looking for is:
www.allaboutsymbian.com
I think from memory they have dedicated A1000 forums.
Hi There,
I have an HTC Falcon (a.k.a. Audiovox PPC 5050 - fairly rare in the US/UK, but relatively common here in NZ), and am trying to put it into Diagnostic mode, but ##DIAG+send (or any variation on this) doesn't work. This is probably because DmRouter.exe isn't in the /Windows directory (or anywhere else on the device).
All the versions of DmRouter available here and on other forums are for WM5 or greater. Does anyone have a version for WM2003? Or anyone with a WM2003 phone that is willing to upload this file for me?
Even the version for WM2003SE would be worth a shot.
Thanks.
Hello to everyone.
I starting cooking by myself and I need to summarize some knowledge, which I got all over xda forums. Now I know, how to dump/convert/add/remove, etc., but only within one device type. That leads to my question. How is actually made upgrade of OS between different devices? For example (it is meant in general) I have Vox device with WM6.0. Then I dump MS smartphone emulator image with WM 6.1. What is actually needed to add to 6.1 dumped ROM to make it working with Vox device?
I am guessing some drivers or something like this (maybe SYS?), but I know nothing about this so maybe some of you can point me to some directions.
Thanks for all your advices.
Hello:
I'm completely new to WM, never once had a WM phone before. I've only had sidekicks, because of their ease of use and general ability to multi task and have things running in the background. Anyway, got a bit tired of not being able to do anything to the phone and picked up the TP2...
I'm on WM 6.1, however supposedly WM 6.5 came out? I've tried checking Microsoft for an official update, but all I can find are custom ROMs? Does WM not allow updating? Also, on the TP2, I went to Settings -> System -> Windows Update and it keeps giving me an error:
"Connection to the update server is not available. Check your data connection settings and ensure the device date and time are correct."
Data works, (Same error with wifi or 3g) and date and time are correct...? Can't update that way.
Would I have to use "homebrewed" versions of WM 6.5? (I'm only familiar with modding PSPs, sorry if that isn't the correct terminology)
ms don't sell wm to users they sell it to manufacturers only
and the roms are 100% customized for the devices
if the manufacturer don't release an official rom for your device you will never receive an official rom
