hi chaps
right, here's my problem:
i've got a prophet running the latest dopod rom. all's well in pda land. unfortunately, i've had to do some fiddling to get o2's homezone app working the way it should do. more or less. see, the thing is when my device wakes up, the homezone app HZDisplayDataSMP is always in the foreground. so before i can do anything i have to press the OK button. now, i can sort of live with this, as i have homezone functionality, but it's, well, a pain in the arse, to be honest.
so, my question to you guys is this: does anyone know of a WM5 programme that will run apps, but force them to remain in the background. i was thinking of some resident startup item that would keep the app hidden away nicely from my interface, but continue to allow it to do what it needs to.
does anyone know of anything that sounds useful? if so, you're my man. i've got a hunch our good vijay555 might be able to lend a hand, but feel free to throw suggestions at me.
thanks a million, guys
I was asked about a similar app recently, to run apps minimised.
I've had major troubles rebuilding my PC after I installed the Vista Beta and it decided to eat my Documents & Settings and Program Files.
I'm finally back up to speed and able to start programming again, so will try to look into it.
But it should be easy enough for a developer to knock together with ShellExecute.
In the meantime, you might want to use a mort script to find the window by caption and minimise it. Or SK Schema should be able to do exactly what you want, run an event when it finds a window by caption.
V
righto! thanks for the heads-up. really appreciate it, pal. i'll have a look into both of those suggestions.
ps: the only reason to install vista is halo 2 pc. can't think of any other factor which would cause me to pollute my hard drive with such nonsense
hey, i like touchflo,, i guess. probably cuz im a little too nervous and inexperienced to start seriously messing around with my phone, but i do hate how the calender on touchflo works. I cant see specific says without clicking on them, and the whole thing just seems a little elementary.
is there anything you can suggest that will work with touch flo, and required just a simply installation, because im not quite sure what most of the tech abbreviations mean, and how to manually configure settings.
So from your experience, what is the most intuitive program.
would it also be too much to ask to see some screenshots of the programs.
thanks a lot....consider it my christmas present
just a side note,
if you have a program on the phone, and then update the framework, must you reinstall the initial program...the reason i ask is , i have a program to prevent the screen from being responsive when i call came in, but after a few updates, ie. framework and advance config, the screen blocker program isnt working
any suggestion?
i believe there is already a post about this and to the best of my knowledge the answer to your second question is no
SBSH Touch Calendar looks awesome. I haven't tried it yet as it costs $25 but I'm thinking about buying it. Give it a shot and post up here!

Also there is a 12-day trial.

hey, sorry for the repost, but ive been searching, and really havent been able to find what im looking for. It may just be that i dont know if the mentioned programs im looking for are compatible with the touch pro. Im not looking to mod my task bar, or anything concerning manilla files. Just a program that allows me to see into the future a little better. is this spd diary program compatible with touch pro and free?
thanks for putting up with me
Try thumbcal, i's great. Version 0,5 is free after that it gets a little better but it's not free anymore, 12
Have a look here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588
This solved my problem - if this is installed, you switch the screen off, then on again - all appointments as well as current date/time is displayed.
Ive used Thumbcal and only just installed the SBSH touch cal, have to admit looks and operates great. So much more features and ability to manage apts etc. First impressions i think its alot more comprehensive then Thumbcal, but just my opinion.
I dunno if this is a ROM isolated thing, (I'm running NYG Pro) but I find that if I leave a video running in the background after selecting it under the "Photos and Videos" tab, regardless of the video duration, it'll give me a boost with anything 2D until I close Album. Manilla 2D and TaskFacade run a lot sexier now. The only thing that seems to kill it is Audio Manager. lol As soon as I run it, it goes back to normal and the only way to get that extra framerate is to restart Album with the same or another video and leave it running again.
Sorry if this had been posted before, but is there anyway we might be able to incorporate the, what seems to be, "2D driver" in startup like what taskfacade has to do? Just like a crippled version of Album for the speed? I don't know exactly what's giving it the boost here, but this seems pretty important if it's not isolated to the ROM I'm running.
I just tried this with my Kaiser and it works consistently on a Hyperdragon 3 ROM from November, so it seems to be fairly universal. I don't know how or why this works, but I'd sure like to see someone figure it out and find a way to have it work all the time.
Edit: I assume this has something to do with the video drivers that may or may not actually exist, and with the built-in video playback somehow turning on 2D acceleration, but I'm no programmer so I can't really go into detail. The more I play with this, though, the more excited I am to have smooth response in Manila and iContact and things of that sort, and the more I hope someone can find a way to build this into a ROM or make it a standalone program.
confirmed here too, now this is wierd
It's not so weird
During early days on UIQ, we also found the phone UI works a lot faster when there's a background Video running / being played .. seems to be the same factor.
Hi all,
actually, its nothing to do specifically with M2D ...
actually, been noticing that with everything ... say, PointUI Home 2 for example , .. leave your video on paused state, and try playing around the Home ... seems a marvel ...
but then, its been there since my UIQ3 days, on my P990i ... graphics performance boost up whilst leaving a video running ....
i hope this will trigger some wise minds in here ...
Yeah actually tried this trick with a Gameboy emulator. Works pretty well. Eliminates page tearing so that's pretty cool. Here's to hoping something gets done with this!
Will doing this kill the battery life?
It may affect it slightly since it is still running a program. As far as i can tell there isn't much of a change in the real world though.
From what I have read, attempted to understand, and barely grasp, this likely works because it opens up the 3D and 2D driver sets so that programs that don't have the "call" code built in but support 3D and 2D drivers are able to utilize them then.
Not 100%, but it seems like this is where the driver developement is stuck at in general, with finding out how to get all programs to use the drivers all the time even if the drivers are not native.
I have very limited knowledge of all of those, though, and half the driver stuff goes over my head, but what I have grasped is that they don't seem to have, to use an analogy, the "phone number" for the drivers, but some programs do and some do not type thing.

maybe we should just have pause a video and add it as an exlusive itme in the task mager and always have it running lol Im gonna try this
You should change the name of this thread to somthing taht will atract more attention liek "possible graphics driver fix!" cause honestly I think you discovered somthing very usefuil if someone made a cut down version of this app and just had a pause short medai clip in the backround this could be a step closer to our driver solution or mabe THE solution and honestly I think this is amazing, and I think if you changed the titl of this thread it would attract A LOT of more atention
Could it be the Q7200 having some sort of speed step running and playing a clip is bringing it up to its default max of 400 MHz...? Which would simply speed up everything but consume more battery...
If it really enables drivers to run, that would be simply amazing and some of the smart heads here should take a deeper look into it.
Very interesting find!
Maybe its also worth posting in more general forum? not in Kaiser Rom development?
maybe try to send a message to someone from the HTCclassaction team?
Hi, isn't this video player actually a separate app that is spawned from manila?
Any handy people out there who could make this happen with a .cab? (install small video player, make it autostart and run an included, very small, video, all while running invincibly/exlusively in the background?)

Doubt its the processor stepping up left this active all day no difference in battery consumption or little if any. This is a cool find hope it leads somewhere for 'cursed users'.
Shifu v1.1
Seems to speed things up on this rom as well. Does seem more than a placebo effect.
Sorry. I don't know if this is frowned upon on this forum, but I'm bumping this for great justice. move zig lol

Sorry, I have to agree with placebo effect, I am using PDA X Beta II and Manila was pretty speedy before trying this, tried it and saw no difference, real or imagined.
Alright, Beejive IM is pretty perfect - when it works. Lately it's not been working, forcing me to go looking for other programs.
1. I don't like programs that I need to create an account to sign in for. I am suspicious of them.
2. Most programs, especially the kind above, are ugly with a poor interface, lacking pretty basic features, and are slow.
So, no one say Palringo, that thing is HORRID! I can't believe it has any kind of following at all. I've tried Mundu, and the thing is awful. Unless I did something wrong, it's just terrible. Nimbuzz is too suspicious for me to try. I guess I can look at Fring again, but please. If anyone can show me a better Internet IM program, or some patches or a branch of Beejive IM, I'd be very grateful! Thanks!
glad im not the only one with beejive problems i couldnt figure out what was going on no buddies showed up in my list
sorry to say i use palringo :x
up for new suggestions as well though

I agree completely. Palringo brought my device to a crawl, and I really don't want to register for another service just to try it. When Beejive quit working, I found Slick (http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=slick). I've heard that it's Java based, but it runs like any other WM executable, and it runs pretty quickly. It also seems to be very UC / Sashimi friendly as all of its data and configuration are in a single directory tree.
I'll probably go back to Beejive once its working again, but Slick is the alternative I'm using for now.
This is incubus26jc's thread, just posting it here for exposure.

Alright guys, I finally found a Java App that will actually control your phone from your pc. This is not complicated. Thanks to acid256 for this open source project.
If your looking to do screenshots, use the java screenshot program in this thread
Features
- Mouse and keyboard control FOR ROOTED DEVICES ONLY
- Landscape mode (right click)
- Video recording
- Basic file browser
INSTRUCTIONS
Download Android sdk. Place android-sdk-windows folder on root of your C:\
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Download(skip login) and install JRE(JDK) 6
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/widget/jdk6.jsp
Download the attached java file, unzip it, and just run it.
Place it anywhere you want. It doesnt have to be in the sdk folder like the screenshot program.
Make sure your phone is plugged in for a minute or two.
If you cant get it to control, run the automount app or dual mount sd widget.

Damn that is sweet! Will try it when I get home from work
Thank you for posting about this. Just gave it a shot, and it works pretty well. It's a bit laggy, but definitely gets the job done. I needed this in order to respond to texts without looking like I'm responding to texts, and for that this works very well.
Thanks for posting this. I might have to give this a try.
Good for if your phone is in someone else's hands. :-O
Just tested it out.
Found a couple problems-
-It's a little slow
-If you have the phone set up with the kickstand, and it turns the orientation side ways, it does the same on the computer. So then everything is sideways.
-If the phone is Asleep, it wont wake it up
Besides those few problems, it's great!
Can't wait to see what this will be like in the coming weeks as the dev. gets the bugs worked out!
Yes very slow but I like it. Awesome owkr.
Cool beans, thanks
i was hoping this was similar to MyMoblier for WinMo. being able to remotely control (or at least view) a device is rather handy for support folks.
has anyone seen something more like mymobiler for winmo that will work on android?
Works good but it needs more responsiveness in the mouse clicking. I can drag but I cant click very well. I press menu and go to Wallpaper. But I cant press Wallpaper.
Excellent program for people who want to text in privacy at work.
Awesome, this could be quite useful
i'm having absolutely no luck with this. granted, i'm using adb wireless to try and manipulate it, but i'm rooted, and it should still work. getting absolutely no control at all. none. i can see the screen, and can rotate my view of it, but i can't do squat through the phone.
i'm rooted, btw.
