Well, I went into the Diamond forum asking if anyone's remapped the push to talk button, and people acted like I was crazy. THE AT&T RAPHAEL (RAPH110) HAS A THIRD BUTTON ON THE LEFT SIDE, UNDER THE VOLUME ROCKER.

Might be bad, BECAUSE, everyone assumed the only hardware difference was in the front camera being removed... So that's 1 more hardware difference, and 1 more thing in the Registry that'd be different... So hopefully that ROM still works for euro models to get 3G here. Now, this is not to say it won't work... Very likely the same radios are included... But then again this also has no FM radio... So I don't know at this point.
Hardware differences we know of:
Keyboard (different layout)
Front camera (gone)
Push to talk button
FM Radio (gone from software, hardware there?)
Any others?
I wouldn't worry, the "normal" Raphael is identical to the Diamond, and the AT&T version is only a varient, so it's not going to be different enough to cause too many problems. Much like the Tilt/Kaiser with the keyboard and camera.
It'll just have an additional reg key to cover the PTT button. Previously AT&T just stole a different button (think it was the "Record" button on the Kaiser?) but there aren't any to steal on the Raphael, so I guess AT&T insisted on the (very minor) hardware mod.
As for the radio, I suppose it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that AT&T got HTC to cripple the function (while they were adding the extra button), but only time will tell. Hopefully you can just install the software and it'll work... Isn't there a cab of the Diamond's FM Radio floating around in XDA-Devs somewhere?
I'm looking forward to remapping the right Shift key of the "normal" Raphael, so that I can use it as an "OK" button - which the AT&T version already has. Keyboard re-mapping isn't too tricky - so again, I wouldn't worry.

I use a Mio a701 for Geocaching with GPS Dash v2.58 software and it seems to do everything I need it to apart from one thing. I would like to be able to take photos and have the lat/long read from the GPS & stamped onto the photo. Is anyone aware of any 3rd partysoftware that can do this?
I have looked at things like "RoboGeo" which compare the recorded track with EXIF data on a PC, but really would like the ease of doing it direct on the device.
I know this is slightly off topic for your forum, but I have asked in the usual Mio support forums. I would have thought such software (if it exists) could also be used on an XDA with a BT receiver also, so here I am

murf62 - welcome to the board.
I'm a fellow Mio A701 man, as of last week. Can I ask what forums you're using? I haven't seen many good dedicated ones, at least nothing as good as here. I've started one on my website just for the hell of it.
I've written a couple of apps to improve the system, I'm not particularly happy with it out of the box.
But I digress. This could be possible, but what app are you using take the photos, normal camera app?
V
Yeah, I'm using the normal camera app, but can't see any reason why a 3rd party app couldn't exist that grabs a pic from the camera and then stamps the lat/long onto it.
I have hunted high & low for such a thing and I'm pretty sure it doesn't currently exist.
I've had the Mio since release on 10 Mar and it's been great, these are the forums I currently use, I'm assuming it's ok to post them here as you asked & are a moderator

The bottom 2 are dying off now as most people have moved to the fourpages one.
I would be interested in apps you have written, what sort of things are you talking about?
murf62: hey, four pages is great, I just Johnny Five'd the whole board into my limited Mental Storage Drive:

I'm awaiting my authorisation email Can't post yet.
Basically, I hate that there's no dedicated Power button. The red button is useless, it always switches itself on in my pocket, and takes me 30 seconds to switch off using the ShutDownApp.exe or whatever it's called.
I reverse engineered it and squirted the functionality into my VJEschaton (unreleased version), and used a regedit to bring the Camera app into Settings, and now assign power off to the camera button.
Next step is to rewrite or patch the keyboard driver to allow power on from the camera key, although I'm thinking of a better solution, writing my own screen lock to sidestep the problems (backlight coming on) with the current Rom version.
Next, I used VJOkButt to replace the functionality of the Red button, and used AE ButtonPlus to replace Vol Up/Down keys.
I spent an age configuring my Today screen, creating a new today theme to match my old WM2003 one, updating the Wiki on here very slightly with my findings. I then configured claunch to use as my Today screen dialer.
I've also written a small GPS test app.
I spent yesterday trying to install my father's TomTom 3, which failed, so gave TT5 a go. Works ok.
I'm going to try to write a release version of the GPS app, eventually, because currently I think you have to Kickstart the GPS with another app, and VisualGPS seems too CPU intensive for the job.
More to come. I've only had it out of the box for around 48 hours
Hopefully I'll look into the GPS stamping issue, if I can figure out and find a nice image manipulation library. But I have some other priorities on this board first (VJToggleToday, to maximise Today screen space. Works well on the Mio though).

You don't need to kickstart it this way if you use HW_COM & 57600 baud in tomtom instead of COM 4.
But will that still use Ephemeris?
V
No it doesn't, but it still locks on pretty quickly. Typically, I get tomtom loaded & a good lock in around 60 seconds. (25 seconds or so of that is tomtom booting up, then another 10 or so while it finds the COM port).
Hi!
I have installed Voice Command and all was working great until first soft reset...
Something bad happens to harware button nr 4 (that with a bubble, next to
camera button). All functions mapped to this button are activated only
after holding that button for a few seconds. If you just tab that button -
nothing happens... If I uninstall VC - problem disapears...
I know that this is an old problem (even on WM5 after installing VC), but
I don't find any solution... And I know that there is a solution, becouse on ROMs
when VC is included, that button is working OK...
So dev's or anyone - pls share with me
I have compared 3 registry and files snaps, bout I don't find there
any solution... So if anyone can find what registry change is responsible
for that strange button behaviour, I'll be grateful...
So:
Result1.txt is compare of snaps taken before and after installation of VC
Result2.txt is compare of snaps taken after installation, but before and
after first soft-reset
It is easy to read - all lines starting with < are old values, and lines
starting with > are the modified/new ones...
Thx in advice! This will help not only me - but all the people who are
using VC
I have found an solution for this! OK, maybe this is not real solution
(still needs someone to find what registry change is responsible for this weird
button behaviour), this is more like backdoor for button problem, but it works
Now I have something like this:
{

It looks great, huh? I don't remenber when I have possibility to map
all the button functions! (I think that in last official WM5 ROM)
OK, You need a registry editor, WM6 without Voice Command (I haven't
tested if this will work, when VC is build into ROM - besides, only with VC from here,
announce for incoming calls will work), Voice Command Fixed for WM6 and
offcourse HTC Universal
Note: This fix will work only if your "Record" button has been messed up
after isntalling VC!
After applying this fix, you will have to possibility to use Record button
as before installing VC, and you will have a new function - other action
mapped to Press & Hold for Record button!
1. Open you registry editor and navigate to: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
2. Find key 40C4 and rename it to 40C5
3. Create new key and mane it 40C4
4. Open key 40C5, copy all values from there to 40C4 key
5. Open 40C4 and change value of Name to "Record (Hold)", for example
You Keys key should look as here:
And it is done! Now in Settings -> Button windows all buttons
will be functional as before installing VC, and you have received
a bonus - a new action key to map
PS. I still search for a proper solution, why record button (40C4) has
transformed into 40C5 after isntalling VC! Pls, I know, that many
devs here know WM registry well - pls look at my compare results....
This will help a lot!
Thanks! I've been using KDSkamal's WM6 Beautiful Edition which is nice and fast but, among other minor things, didn't have the Record (Hold) button visible. Using your suggestion I was able to successfully restore and map it.
I tried this, and I get the announcements via handset speaker, but not over BT... Even after changing the configuration settings to use regardless of free time, and to use for BT all of the time and again to use BT if available... I did not have to use the VC BT Fix by Zajules after installing this... and BT worked as before...
We are closer, good work, but how did you get it to work over BT... Once we know that, Microsoft should compensate all that have worked to make this a reality... Just wish I was one of them... Ha...
Thanks Mr. Groch!
I was going to try this registry fix on my Mogul, but I already had 40C5 key, and didn't think I should try to rename another to this one.
Instead, I was able to just reassign the record button using AEButton Plus and it's working fine.

Can someone answer which ROM includes PTT feature.
Or can someone create and post here cab file so we can install it.
Or can someone explain how to extract this cab from OEM ROM.
Or can someone explain how to install Alex's OEM_ATT_160__PTT_2_0_614_713 package from the _Alex_'s UltraClean ATT 1.60.502.3 ROM OEM Packages.rar

treat the problem as if you have a PTT function. Just follow my instructions and you will be fine. If there is no PTT, then it is one step less to do. Just install the two files mentioned in post 127 on page 13 of the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334759&page=13&highlight=ptt+button
Bro... We don't need the remapping instructions we need the PTT SOFTWARE!
SDatl04: As shown on the wiki, it's in alphabetical order under the AT&T OEM packages grouping. I've marked it up below to help you find it. Make sure to check the box to the left of the text 'PTT_2_0_614_713' and proceed with the rest of the steps in the tutorial. Remember to flash the ROM after you've cooked it, or it'll just sit on your hard drive gathering dust and PTT won't be on your device. If you need more help than this, feel free to ship me your phone, $50 processing fee plus $12.95 shipping and handling, and I'd gladly do it for you.

PTT Re-Assign Cab File.
I found the following CAB file that re-assigns PTT. I have not tried it and I do not guaranty it will work. You can try it at your own risk. Someone in another forum indicated that it worked for him.
Good luck!
Found it !!!
If some one still looking for the PTT cab file I found it in some post in here.
Just installed on my Tilt and PTT function working again. Thanks for you all. The file atached.
Awesome rusyn, I was still looking for a CAB. I have a working OEM, but whenever I try to make it into a CAB, it only half works. I'll give this one a try and hope for the best! Thanks for posting it. I was hunting around quite a bit and couldn't find it.
::EDIT:: - Do you know if this maps the button correctly as well? That was one of the issues my own CAB didn't do correctly. It's easily fixed with a Registry edit, but it's just "one more thing" to do... and I'll be flashing 16 phones.

Hi!
I've been using my uni from the past couple years or more and am waiting to switch to the raph. I need to wait for another 15-20 days before i can get my hands on one (and thats killing me :-( ) and until I do, I was hoping that someone who's made the jump from a uni can shed some light on how it compares.
EDIT: Most importantly, can someone compare the two keyboards???
Cheers,
San
difficult....
The Universal keyboard is superb but bigggggggggggg.
I like the Raphael keyboard very much. Had a lot of problems with the TytnII. No numbers without the function key and easily I touched one of the hardware keys, entering in a menu etc.
This is all solved by the Raphael.
I may want to remap the sms and mail key in spacebar or so. I type them accidentally now and then, entering in those programs. But I can live with it
Huib
I also have a universal and have found no other phone that is as complete as it is 3+ years on from when I got it but with the extended battery pack on I am a little sick of the brick type comments I get and fancy a change.
However the limitations of the touch diamond mean I am only seriously considering the Touch Pro but the current £500 sim free price tag is too much - waiting for some decent conrtract deals..
Is the touch pro actually that much smaller than the universal in real world use? Anyone have any pictures of them side by side?
With a Windows 6.1 rom on (tomal!) the universal it really flies, does everything I need (apart from maybe HDSPA 3g occasionally) so if anyone has both it would be great to give us some comaparisons...

Much, much smaller. Nothing negative said about good old Universal.
But it comes with an extremely handly pouch that you can keep in your shirtpocket after having taken the Raphael out.
It is a small but very handy thing.
And you get a lot of extra tools, like GPS etc.
I also own a TytnII, and I miss some buttons, but this TouchPro ..... brrrrr.
I also believe that battery life in 3g mode is acceptable now. But I could not fully test it.
With both Universal and TytnII it was unworkable and I could only use GPRS/GSM to save battery live.
And GPRS and MSN MEssenger bite each other and were giving me many missed calls. Data and voice are impossible in GPRS mode.

Thanks for the replies guys.
That sizeasy site is cool adamdon89 - I have bookmarked it
Minds made up - just need a decent offer on a UK contract now then!
If the picture doesn't do it for you, volume-wise, the Universal is ~275% the size of the Touch Pro. That is, grind some Touch Pros up (no, please don't actually try it!) and you could almost fit 3 Touch Pros in the space of the Universal.
thanks for your feedback guys!
can someone specifically answer on these lines, in comparison to a universal -
1. Overall device speed, through menus, launching proggies etc.
The uni is quite sluggish in my opinion....is the TP a lot more responsive??
2. Keyboard layout...
Minor changes, no windows key, no OK button.....does this feel like a huge loss in happiness?
3. Keyboard usability...
how does it really feel when compared to a uni's keyboard? The uni has a fairly large keyboard....now, using the TP, do you find it really hard to type on?
4. Is the OS a lot more stable?
I hope so! My Uni on wm6.1 is usually a nightmare....crashes atleast 5 times a day (i have a bad rom now i guess)
cheers & thanks again!
San
i had the Uni swapped it for a tytnII i wished i did't now i have the touch im happy again.
it is defently faster than my uni that ran wm6
the only complaint i had with the uni was its size, i find the touch just right.
Hi there,
I just discovered the AutoKeyLock program and immediately hit the problem with "Cannot hook the keyboard".
So I renamed my VitoCopyPaste.exe to .eze and rebooted.
This allowed AutoKeyLock to work.
Just out of interest, I renamed VitoCopyPaste back to .exe and it ran fine. So that suggests to me that both applications can co-exist as long as AutoKeyLock is started first.
So, 65000$ question, is there any way to control the startup order?
BTW I'm running Dr. Gonzo's WM 6.1 ROM on my Vox if that makes a difference?
TIA,
Richard
You can't use both apps on your vox, you must choose one or the other.
Sorry.
That's not true! I have them both working when I automatically start AutoScreenLock and manually start copy/paste.
I can see them both in task manager, Honestly!
If I knew how to take a screen shot, I'd post it.
R.
No, if autokeylock is launched first (screensaver active), vito copypaste don't work, if vito copypaste is launched first, autokeylock don't work.
It's a fact, only one soft can hook the keyboard.
Bye.
I am using "SmartToolkit 1.0.0.RC08" for: autokeylock, copy/paste and key mapping, ( "celle task" is mapped on center d-pad button).
OK Here's a screenshot from my phone showing both apps running:

Believe you, yes that you can run both binaries at the same time.
The $65,001 question (which is what Fireburned is trying to say), is if both applications actually function when running together?
Running the two apps is ofcourse possible, but the beauty is they wont work simultaneousely . Its very simple, how can two apps lock the same hardware device? Think about it. You are using a dialup modem and are already connected to some network through it, now you start and another dialer and again want to use the same modem to dialup some other network, is it possible ?
Yes, they both work.
Shaunak.it, I don't know too much about Windows Mobile but in other OS's you have the concept of chaining where several programs can register an interest in a particular interrupt or device.
Thinking about it, WM must support something similar, otherwise how does the screenshot program see the * key pressed whilst both AutoKeyLock & Vito Copy & Paste are running?
Returning to my original question, is there any way to control the order that programs are started at boot time?
R.
dicko99 : I don't believe you, sorry
Phrak and shaunak.it : Thanks you, it's what i want to say, both applications can run simultany, but only the first launched app works.

try to make an sms text message and use vitocopypaste to select some words and cut/paste it somewhere else.
you will notice it doesn't work, because a carriage return is automatically inserted when keylock releases the hook to vitocopypaste.
B****r! I only tested copy/paste on a single line field...
Bye bye AutoKeyLock then!
