WM7 and WM8 - General Topics

Hi guys,
does anyone have information when the release of WM 2007 will be?
I was reading something about the 1.Quartal 2009 is that right?
Because i dont want to buy a new phone in december, when maybe the release is 3 months later...
Another thing is why is the release for WM 08 in 2010? Do you think its possible to upgrade the Rom Versions like WM5 - WM6.1?
Thx for answers...

You could take the risk and hope that WM7 is rolled out as an update for a WM6/WM6.1 device. Some providers rolled out WM6 for devices that shipped as WM5 - such as O2 with the XDA Trion (Hermes). Orange didn't with the SPV M3100 (same as XDA Trion)
Then - there's the clever people at this site that can cook up 'leaked' test ROMs etc.

I think we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves with WM8 I did hear however the same about WM7, that it would be launched around Q1 of 2009, but then again, it's Microsoft you're dealing with

wm7 will be based on windows CE6 rather then Windows CE5 which wm5->wm6.1 are based
require all new drivers to run i'd suspect

The first retail WM6 device?

OK, i'm looking for a new device, what do you think the first device to ship with WM6 will be? Athena?
Truthfully, I want the Athena (in HTC Black form), I wonder if that will be the first HTC device to ship with it, or if it could get an official update to WM6 at a later date?
Location: INTEL - Ronler Acres Hillsboro, Oregon (Birth place of the Pentium Processor).
Originally from Brighton UK.
XDA Devices owned: XDA, XDA2, XDA2s, XDA Exec
it may come with wm6 but i think that the device makers are adding their programs and after that the service providers will add their stuff too. may come out in a few months or maybe at the end of the year. Or when vista comes out too

Kaiser availability/release date?

I'm new to the whole Windows Mobile world, and I was about to make my first pocket pc phone with the TyTN, but from the news I'm reading it seems the phone replacing it will be out soon. I've decided to wait it out for the Kaiser, at least that way I won't have to go through the problem or risks involved with flashing a WM6 ROM to it, and I would have GPS built in.
I was wondering if anyone heard or know of the firm release date of the unit and the street price? Any help on this is greatly appreciated, thanks
I heard release may be around late june & price for sim free is expected to be around £400.
Looks like a nice device but not sure how keen I would be on having WM6 this early in its release, If you go with a WM5 OS all your problems are already writen & resolved within forum threads, as a first step into the PPC world you may have a better experience with WM5.
Regards, Mister B
I've heard of a late Q3 or early Q4, 2007 release to Cingular for them to carry the Kaiser, but haven't heard anything about price yet.
As far as the newly released WM6, several apps I'm already using on my Wizard have already been upgraded to be compatible with WM6 -- which I'm also currently running on my phone.
But -- again -- it's M$ Windoze we're dealing with here, so anything can happen. . .
I appreciate the replies and the advice guys. I don't mind waiting till June, but Q4 might be too long to wait. I guess I could reconsider getting a TyTN, I just hate having to spend money on a whole new phone in six months time when the Kaiser comes out. Even if the TyTN works and serves its purpose, I'm gonna have a want for the Kaiser, and if I would have just waited it would have just been a one time expense. Oh well, it's an issue that I have to deal with. Thanks again guys.

i-mate launch JASJAR with WM6.0 ?

Check this:
http://www.imatephonestore.com/product.asp?itemMDL=IMATE_JASJAR&ref=adwords#review
already a post regarding this....
So are the new ROMs peing posted at the moment based on this or still being derived from other sources ?
Looks like there is plenty of life left in the phone yet. Though I'm starting to lean towards getting myself a Nokia E90. Does not have the enthusiastic Dev base that WM has though...

Windows Mobile 6 Professional for I-mate Jasjar or Qtek 9000
I called sales for On The Go Solutions, Inc., www.onthegosolutions.com website, Ph. # 1-866-746-4684 out of Skokie, IL and the sales person told me that H.T.C out of Taiwan released the "Windows Mobile 6 Professional" for the I-mate Jasjar & Qtek 9000 1 month ago. If somebody out there could get this download that would be greatly appreciated and share this with us. Or if someone is interested in purchasing either device the onthegosolutions technical support upgrades this device for you with Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional and they will also give you the download link which you can pass onto all the xda-developers members.
I just checked the club imate download web site, and they post the old Windows Mobile 5 AKU 2 for i-mate Jasjar.
Wow.. I'm wondering which web site we can download the official WM6 ROM for i-mate Jasjar.
There is indeed not a download link, I just send a e-mail I-mate, to verify this information, I'll hope I get a response soon, because I'm sure to use my device even longer.
I reveived the basic mail back with a automized awnser,
"With regards to your query please note, that i-mate is progressing plans to make WM 6.0 upgrade available on as many of its devices as possible. We are investigating the possibilities with our product suppliers and Microsoft at this time, and we will be in a position to clarify the situation by the end of this month. Please bear with us while we investigate what is possible and keep a close eye on the www.clubimate.com website for further news and updates."
So it is the basic delay to do it on the "next" monday and the same awnser I have been reading troughout different forums and topics
Wrong..Absolutely wrong........
I just had a chat with clubimate representative..which is as follows...

I wonder how true this report is...???
Can you imagine if someone actually buys a Universal from them and they end up sending a link to one of the customized ROMs from XDA Developers site?
...
Update regarding the Windows Mobile 6 for the I-mate Jasjar & Qtek 9000. I called and spoke with Dovid from technical support at the On The Go Solutions Store and he informed me that the "Windows Mobile 6 is from Jwrightmcps cooked rom" which is not the official rom released from H.T.C from Tawian. According to the polls comparing to the other cooked roms Jason's rom is the top rom at this time. So this is where the www.onthegosolutions or www.imatephonestore is getting their rom from Jason out of Chicago, IL. and advertising this on their website.

Just as I thought, A SCAM TO MAKE PEOPLE BUY THEIR PRODUCT.
I wonder if JWright know about this???
According to Dovid technical support person at the On The Go Solutions or I-matephone store Jason does know about this which when I spoke to Dovid technical support said that Jason is submitting his cooked rom to them which in my opinion is false advertising. When I first had called yesterday the lady I spoke to in sales first told me that the "Windows Mobile 6 Professional" for the I-mate Jasjar & Qtek 9000 was a release from H.T.C out of Taiwan which was a 1 month ago. Then when she called me later in the day on Friday she told me that this was incorrect information and switched me over to Dovid which I had questioned him that I was a xda-developers member and if this was possibly a cooked rom because there are 5 or 6 other xda-developer members cooking up cooked roms. This information as to my understanding is 100% correct information. I also called T-Mobile my service provider for my Qtek 9000 and told technical support that they need to contact H.T.C out of Taiwan once Windows Mobile 6 Professional is available for the Qtek 9000 and contact me once they have this. I also told T-Mobile technical support that if they receive enough calls from their customers requesting the "Windows Mobile 6 Professional' upgrade once available H.T.C will then request this for T-Mobile and not give this to any other person that has a Qtek 9000, I-mate Jasjar, etc or similar device branded by H.T.C

Are you kidding me I spent $1700 NZD on the IMATE Jas Jar ( I could have got a laptop) and there is doubt about an upgrade to WM6..
Are you serious....???$%#@?%?
Jas Jar have only been out for a short time surely the expected operational time span is longer than this ...

I'm afraid not, its a phone. Usual lifespan of a phone is about a year to 18 months, the jasjar/mda-pro/universal has already lasted much longer than most.
A phone, how dear you sir... its a pocket PC, tell me which phone can do all the functionality of Jas jar.
Pocket Pc are a mini laptop.
This does not remove the responsibility of IMATE/HTC to put out a OS update for WM6.

I can't agree more!
We invest lots of money on a PDA an the brands don't want to support their customers after a single year.
Not all universal owners bought their PDA at it's lunching...
wm6 for universal
Hi
to all you people who doubt whether the wm6 is official or not:
1.wm6 is 'official'
2.you people are asking for software support from the vendors who are only capable of etching their logo on a finished product.
3.there are different ROM versions and all are cooked because no hardware vendors have officially launched it yet.
4.All you members are familiar with 'search engines',use one, find wm6,or go to microsoft.com and you will be enlightened.
5.I am using wm6 on my o2 exec with a 4 GB SD,everything is flawless and HTML mail support is just superb.
" NO REPEATEDLY BUSTED 4GB CARD( THRICE)SHOULDN'T HAVE SPKEN TOO EARLY."
So stop this demand to have an official ROM from o2 or i-mate, for nobody demanded a wm5 official rom for a wm2003 BA?

WM6 for HP iPAQ rw6828?

I am looking for WM6 for HP iPAQ rw6828. I am also not sure what other names are used for this PDA?
I would appriciate if come one could help
Regards
svirk
No dice slick. HP aren't offering upgrades for their iPAQ range. Sorry, feel free to write to HP and illuminate to them the plethora of other companies offering upgrades, and HPs poor customer service by not doing likewise.
This is the 'beauty' of HP. Its simple , you want an upgrade - Just buy a new device. Thats their policy
But in HP's defence HTC wasnt going to offer WM6 upgrades until Dopod, O2, TMobile and some other network operators announced they would offer upgrades.
Then again HTC denied the Trinity had GPS right up till a cpl weeks before the ROM update that enabled it so. Maybe HP will recant and join the WM6 bandwagon when its widespread upgrade release takes place hopefully this month, or at the latest next month.
Need Help look for WM6 for HP Ipaq rw6828
I need help..i wanted to have wm6 for my ipaq6828..help please

Windows Mobile 7 PPCs?

2007 is at an end. WM7 will be upon us soon. Which handsets seem most likely to be able to run the OS? Id hate to but a brand new PDA now and be green with envy a few months later, hoping the PPC will be popular enough for somebody to cook a WM7 ROM for it. The Imate Ultimate range looks promising, but Im an HTC enthusiast.

Where the hell did you get that info from? WM6 has just been released... I hope for an wm7, but to be realistic: I don't think a new ppc os will be introduced until 2009 or later...

Ha ha. It must have been a big rock.Doesnt sound too encouraging to know that the only thing to look forward to is a glorified service pack. But like they said in those posts, in order not to curb sales theyd rather keep quiet.Graphics havent been exploited by MS as much as they should have, probably the next PDAs will be handheld XBoxes, like the PSP. It makes business sense.

...that's not the point of a WM PDA. WM's main market has always been business communications, and that's probably where it'll remain.
Not to say that you might not see a graphics-oriented PDA anytime in the future; take a look at the O2 XDA Flame for example- but the mainstream bunch of devices will probably remain business-oriented.
The Kaiser has the potential to do all that I would like to see already.Since Tomb Raider was released,I thought PDAs were off to the next level of gaming. I think business functionality has been laid to rest to a large extent, with a few networking bugs to be sorted. If MS had to build up that side of things they would massacre the competition.
I saw a news item and screenshot of Windows Mobile 7 UI somewhere recently as Microsoft execs are now testing it on there mobile phones. I cannot remember where though....will need to see if I saved the articles photos to my PC at home...hmmm. Anyhow the UI is white grey with a Vista style button in the top centre and photographic icons for the today task buttons. It did not much appeal to me over Windows Mobile 5 / 6 - although 5 seems to be the fastest for me even with customisations. Its slated for release next year.
I also saw it somewhere but I forgot the most recent posting. All Im saying is if somebody signs a gag-order the must be some serious money on the line.Maybe they can run the Vista on the Shift on a PDA?
could we up the screenshots here as still cannot find them on my PC.
