Is there a tutorial on performing the upgrade. I tried installing numerous amounts of different brews of 6.1 ROMs but none of them worked and I had to remove the battery.
I believe I need to unlock my phone of some sort to allow homebrew ROMs to be installed.
Absolutely - links are in the the WIKI
Ok - great. Now, it is just time to decide if the WM 6.1 is really worth the upgrade :-D

Can somebody explain it to me what is the difference between Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6.1 on HTC Wizard device?
Is WM5 more stable than WM6?
Is WM5 faster than WM6?
What is the advance of using WM6 instead of WM5 on HTC Wizard?
Just give it a try in my opinion i can say that WM6.1 is much faster and stable than WM5. Also changing to WM6.1 solved many bugs for me which i had in WM5 ROM. Like WiFi connection problems, GPS module Nokia LD-3W connection problems with GPS navigation software etc... if i could compare it to something similar it is like to change from Windows 98 to Windows XP
Outstanding! So, You recommend me to use WM6, a? I will, is flashing procedure very complicated?
Like he said, the difference between 5.0 and 6.1 is immense. 6.1 boots faster, runs faster, doesnt require as much memory for programs, looks nicer, shoot...its just all around better.
The flashing process is not that hard, you just need to read, read, read the guides here for your particular phone, whether it is a G3 or a G4, and away you go! Ask here if you need any more help!
Treestsyat!
I just get my new Wizard, but it is G4 device
I just did CID unlock (HardSPL), and now choosing adequate WM6 ROM which I can use. I plan to put Slim Diamond 4, what do You think about it? Should be better than default O2 WM5 ROM, G4 safe, but we will see. I do not like TouchFLO It just disturbing me while I am using my XDA...
TRY
All of we Try lots of roms touchflo fre and enhanced... but it s a vicious thing hahahaha, jajaja just let your boring WM5 wizard revive with WM6.1!!!!!
I reflash my wizard G3 almost 3 times at month just to try some new features...

Just contemplating upgrading from 6.1 to 6.5 and have a few questions, that I hope you fellas can help me with:_
1. I use sprite backup - So could I roll back to 6.1 and my phone as it was after upgrading to a 6.5 ROM?
2. Will TomTom Navigator 6 still work with WM 6.5 as it does with WM 6.1?
3. What is the most stable/best WM 6.5 ROM out their?
4. How will Pocket informant run on WM 6.5
Big thanks in advance of any assistance.

1) You would have to load up a 6.1 ROM then restore your backup. It is recommended that you NOT restore your back up on a 6.5 ROM.
2) I don't use TomTom, but it should work just as it did with WM6.1. I've read where people say it works fine.
3) This is everyone's own opinion. I'm running RRE. Da_G just released an updated base ROM, which is great if you like bare bones. Shep's is also good from what I hear.
4) Not sure about that, I've never used Pocket Informant.

Thanks for the time taken to input into my thread
I do like bare bones, so Da_G might be the way forward for me.
1.What is it like on battery life?
2. Do you get the normal black theme, as opposed to fancy stuff?
3. How have you found its stability?
Many thanks again.

Personally Shep's rom is the best. I have found the battery life to be nothing short of exceptional!
Frequently arrive home after 11 hours of use with 85%+ left. Emails polling every 15 mins, internet usage and text messaging useage and frequent phone calls.

What Radio are you using with that m8?
I also like Da G's ROM, it's minimal and really good on battery life. Also, I'm not sure if it's the ROM or 6.5, but my GPS seems to be much more responsive. Previously I was using an AT&T test ROM with Rhodium Manila and it wasn't nearly as nice... the UI takes a li'l bit to get used to and it doesn't offer as much as TF3D, but it's incredibly stable.
as for Pocket informant it appears that WM6.5 has changed a few things. and most 3rd party cal. are having issues. I tried SBSH Calendar Touch and PI. PI crashed randomly and SBSH did not display recurring appointments. Hopefully those apps will fix it as soon as MS releases the documentation on WM6.5. Check out there forums and search a little if you want ot find out more.
As for ROM play and test them... I am using PROvens because I liked the way Rhodium was already installed and titanium was removed. but I am sure others have done the same.
Have a great day.

I'm using Radio 1.02.25.10
Really I can't speak highly enough of Shep's work!
Just won a SPV E650 on ebay that is on it's way to me. I've never had one of these before with only xda's in my pocket.
Are their any good apps for it that might be considered essential?
I've just read a thread with people installing wm6.5.
Is their a tutorial on how to do this anywhere?? Is this still OK on a orange branded phone??
p.s. Are they reliable??
congratulations!
Wm6.5 still has some bugs and is not officially released yet , i advise you to install wm6.1.
1) Update your USPL
- download http://ostiedbrosse.free.fr/Xda-Dev/wm 6.1/windows mobile 6.1 v1.1.rar
- Follow the steps from readme file except the last one (install flash.exe because we are going to install a newer clean rom than this one)
2) download http://st.free.fr/phpmyvisites.php?...02833&pagename=FILE:VoxRomWM6.1Clean_v1.4.zip and open flash.exe
Get the USPL files from the sticky and install them according to the Wiki (link in my signature) and then choose any of the ROMs around here!
Ok, cheers for that. Is their much difference between wm6 & 6.1 though?
The homescreen of WM6.1 is different because it has the sliding panels. The taskmanager is also different; in WM6.1 you can see how much memory a program uses, but you can't see the total available memory (and in WM6.0 you can).
Important for your warranty is that if you flash your ROM, you won't get any warranty ofcourse!
I found also a site with from Microsoft where they compare the WM versions (WM5, 6, 6.1 - PPC & Smartphone)
Microsoft Compare Site for WM versions

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this issue.
I have a HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) which is from Orange UK. It is running WM 6.1 1.19.61.1.
I have been attempting to flash the rom to a version of WM 6.5.
I have run the hardspl upgrade, then have tried to flash with a number of WM 6.5 (2 from Dutty, 1 from MIRI, and a few others).
The problems I get with ANY version of WM 6.5 are as follows:-
Firstly when it starts booting it has a graphics issue, it looks like the vga driver is not installed, but if you press the power button twice the vga looks ok!
Then when it has loaded WM 6.5 and Touchflo 3D it freezes quite a lot.
Also the phone cannot connect to any mobile network such as Orange UK, when you try to turn the phone radio on it does nothing! WIFI and BT etc work fine!
Also it randomly restarts!
When I flash the rom back to WM 6.1 1.19.61.1 the phone works perfectly again!
Is it not possible to flash my phone? Or can anyone advise me on a wm 6.5 rom that will work!
Any advise would be greatfully received.
Thanks
Problem fixed
If anyone is interested I have got to the bottom of my problems with installing a cooked rom.
I followed a tutorial on flashing the blackstone on youtube which stated I should first install hardspl v1.14, well it seems this video was a bit out of date as when I read the notes on this site it stated I should first install hard spl 1.56 for cooked roms!
I did this and now my upgrades are working fine .
I now have wm 6.5 running ok on my blackstone.
For future reference, our friend Digital Outcast did a fantastic thread here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
It is a sticky on the blackstone forum and easily found, a quick look would have found this, but well done for finding your own way and getting it done
HTC Blackstone HardSPL problem
Hey guys !! I have a problem with my Touch HD!
I'm trying to flash it from WM 6.1 to WM 6.5.
When i start the HardSPL after 10 seconds the phone disconnects from my PC.
i tried a lot of times but does the same all the time.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Hello,
I have a Wizard phone - o2 minis s with WM5 installed, which i would like to upgrade to WM6. I went through some tutorials, but all of them mainly concentrate on ways to unlock the CID. Neither of them show where to take the WM6 ROM from or how to load it to the phone.
But anyway, i have done my research and found the fallowing comparison:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427328 and based on it, i choose the [5/Aug/08] TNT.20273 Series "BETA" (Vanilla/Official/Professional) Now, in it's description it says OS Version=20273, Windows Mobile 6.1 DIAMOND. What does the DIAMOND means? Is it some special software or will work only on certain devices?
Can somebody please tell me is it a good choice or maybe provide with a bigger list of available firmwares? What is the difference between chosen by me and the official microsoft distribution?
Thank you for your help.
Wooju
You will find that many cooked ROMs have titles like Diamond, HD, Topaz, etc.
What this means is the chef modeled the ROMs UI after the Diamond, HD, Topaz, etc.
All OEM shipped ROMs are WM5.0, but if you choose cooked ROMs then you can have WM6.0, WM6.1, and WM6.5.
