FlexMail - IMAP IDLE on O2 - Palm Treo 750

I have a Palm Treo 750 and am having problems running FlexMail IMAP IDLE through my O2 UK network connection.
Simply put, IMAP IDLE does not give me instant notification of new emails when the device is in "sleep mode". Thinking this was a problem with my device, I tried the exact same device, software and settings, but with a Vodafone UK SIM (and appropriate network settings). On Vodafone, I always get instant notifications - i.e. IMAP IDLE works perfectly! - even in sleep mode.
I am interested to know if anyone has IMAP IDLE working on an O2 network when in "sleep mode", irresepective of the device (for now at least).
Also, is there anything that O2 may be doing on their GPRS/3G connections that could hinder IMAP IDLE when the unit sleeps?
Looking forward to your thoughts and comments.

Quick update
I have done a bit more testing on this now. Although it's difficult to analyse accurately, I seem to get IMAP IDLE working in areas where a 3G/UMTS network is available on O2. A train journey to London in the week had emails being updated almost realtime, so it does seem to work. However, when I am at home I get no IMAP IDLE eventhough the green diamond is displayed (FM's way to indicate that IDLE is working) - O2 coverage is not 3G/UMTS at home.
Strangley, with band selection set to GSM only (so I only use the GPRS data connection even if a 3G/UMTS is available) the conclusions are the same.
Still keen to hear of any other O2 users experiences.....

How to set idle command on IMAP
Could you elaborate a bit on how you use IDLE? I need to setup an IMAP account I have with that capability but not sure how to do it using the windows mobile email client on my 750.
Thanks.

Some questions on QTEK 8300 / WM5.0

Hello; I have a Qtek-8300 since a few days ago, but have a lot of experience with PocketPC because of my Ipaq 4150.
I have some questions about the WM5.0 and ActiveSync:
1- Is it possible to establish an order in the preferred connection method to internet? I would like to set: first: ActiveSync; second: Wi-Fi; Third: GPRS. Presently, when I have both GPRS and Wi-Fi, I don't know which one is being used !! Is it a way to discover if I'm using GPRS or Wi-Fi on a given moment?
2- I'm seeing several different icons about GPRS, at different times, but with the phone in stand by (not being used in any way): a) the signal indicator to the right sometimes has a "G"; b) Sometimes in the middle I have a solid triangle (according to the manual means 'roaming'), and sometimes that triangle has also a small "G". Is this correct? Why are the signaling changing?
3- Is it possible to sync the "notes" items of Outlook?
Also, is it possible to sync files under "My Documents"?
4- In ActiveSync I can't access to the option "Program" (it is grayed out); I think that is the way to set if I want to sync continually or manually (like when I sync my PocketPC). Or a SmartPhone is allways synced??
5- I don't fuly understand why incoming calls are not found on my contacts database, since it is fully loaded; perhaps it is because of a local numbering issue. Is it possible to set the number of digits (right-to-left) that WM will use to report the name of the incoming caller? I think that if I set this number to about 6 digits, my contacts will be found.
Thank you very much for your help!

Maybe the triangle (i haven't seen it yet) is a roaming between local operators (ie if your operators gprs signal isn't high enough or has no coverage, they allow you to use another operators gprs with(or without) extra charge). The big G means availability of gprs (or big E availability of edge) and little g (or e) on the right means you are using it ..

Yes - look for "smartphone notes 2.0" at smartphone.net

have you set the phone numbers in ur database (outlook) in the form of:
+44-xxx-xxxxxx ? In outlook you should use the country code (it adds automatically the +44 or whatever). I have over a 1000 numbers set as country code, area code, number, and they are all recognised just fine.
Try with a couple of numbers - if it works, then I gues u got some work to do ....
Hope I helped
Thank you very much for your help, muppet_65.
I'm now trying SmartphoneNotes; installed fine, and sync ok with my Outlook. Very nice solution.
Respect to the problem finding the numbers in the contacts database: yes, the probem is that there is something weird in Argentina's numbering system: when you dial a cell number, it is (xxx) 15+6digitNumber. But when you receive a call from it, the CallerID is (xxx)+6digitNumber, without the "15".
The only solution I see is to configure (registry?) the number of digits WM uses to report the name of the caller. If I can set it to 6 digits, it would work fine (in most of the cases, at least).
Thank you again.
Anyone with some help on the GPRS/WIFI issue? How can I set the preferred internet access? I don't want to use GPRS if WiFi is available...

Push E-Mail on Treo 750?

Hi,
Thanks to another member I've realized where I was going wrong setting up Outlook to use a specified MS Exchange server from within Outlook on the Treo. Now I'm confused on a related note!
On my XDA-Mini in the 'Comms Manager' there's an option for 'Microsoft Direct Push' , 'Push Direct' or some such. Which seemed to be a pre-requsite before I could use my Mail2Web Live (push e-mail) account? I could be wrong here...
In any event I can't find a 'Comms Manager' option on the Treo 750 so wondered (a) if 'Direct Push' was a requirement to be able to use push services such as mail2web.com's and if so, where I might enable it on the Treo.
Thanks,
Steve
From ActiveSync, press menu-->schedule and select 'as items arrive' for both peak and off-peak times.

You'll find all the neccessary settings under programs/ activesync/ settings/ exchange server.
Marvellous, thanks all. Having spent a year getting to grips with the XDA-Mini-S (Wizard) I'm slowly starting again with the Treo.
My next experiment is going to be to see how three different UK 'Pay As You Go' networks (3, Voda & T-Mobile) compare on price over a week's use of push e-mail. None of them were able to confirm how they handle billing for such small but regular bursts of data used with push. So I'm going to see for myself.
The results will be posted here as soon as I have some useful data.
Cheers,
Steve
I have push email on the 750 (Cingular)...
Have a hosted exchange server and whom ever wrote go to AS->Settings and select "As they come in" is correct.
But be careful... I'm not sure what is draining my battery so quickly... The HSPDA hack, Bluetooth or the Push Email.
I've done a hard reset (to clear out the hack) and have BT disabled when I'm not using it... Now to see if it's Active Sync that's the culprit.
mG
PS: I've also ordered a Seidio extended battery and cover... 'cause I can't live without my push email.
Also, if you are using hspda, or umts, the battery does get drained quite quickly, so i went in phone settings, network selection, and chose gprs...slower but more battery efficient

Polaris Partially Connecting

I have my brand spankin' new TC on Rogers here in canada. Ran the auto connection wizard, great! I have Internet! But I get the cannot connect error every time i send or receive email using outlook. I have tried everything I know, is there something you can suggest? It works fine over WIFI, and ActiveSync via USB. But over the 3G there is nothing!
OK, I figured it out.
For future reference.
When your setting up the email account, do it manually as opposed to allowing the auto set up to happen. And at the outgoing mail server screen select advanced options and make sure it connects to your carrier (In my case "Rogers Internet") internet connection.

GPRS versus Wlan: some appl do not work

I have the following situation:
I received a Raphael for work purposes with push mail activated and i'm able to receive through gprs my work mails, go on internet using opera
at home I connect through Wlan to my router and I'm able to download emails from gmail and update my weather tab on flow3D
However I'm not able to:
- update the weather tab in flow3D using GPRS, only through Wlan
- update my gmail and hotmail through GPRS
- go on internet with opera using WLan
Purpose: I would like to link/update data using gprs or wlan for all applications except of course my work mail (this is using a proxy) depending were I am because wlan is cheaper and faster...
Any help?
Thanks a lot
any help please?
You havent given any info on your network, but try going into your data connection settings and turning off the proxy (not your work e-mail proxy, the 3g one) it causes a load of connection problems with some carriers.

Activesync mail not working over cellular connections (T-Mobile UK)

I have a touch pro 2 running a 6.5 ROM and I am having issues getting activesync (Exchange) mail working over cellular connections.
I have set it up, all seems OK. I can surf web pages, though it is slow - HSDPA does not seem to come up much. I am in London on T-Mobile with a flat rate data plan (Web-n-walk).
Activesync mail does not sync over cellular. If I manually initiate a send/receive, it often does nothing, sometimes pops up a notification to say that connecting to the internet access point (general.t-mobile.co.uk) failed.
If I enable wifi (just regular wifi, not wifi activesync) and connect to my DSL connection, it all works fine - so I am 99% sure it is an cellular issue or an issue with my phone provider.
Can anyone give me any advice, T-Mobile customer support is getting me nowhere.
