Today screen Google search? - Palm Treo 750

Has anyone been able to get the Treo's Today Screen Google Search plugin and install it on another device?
I had a Treo 750 on Cingular, but switched back to an IP-830W on Sprint. I miss that today screen google search plugin.

Not from the Treo, but it worked nonetheless.

Search for the install for windows live (it has been ripped from a WM6 rom) and it adds a search bar to the today screen. You can even get in the registry and change the search site to anything you want. I changed mine to google.

If I install the Windows Live app.. Will it install the new IM app. as well? I just want the today screen search.

I've searched and all I can find is the Windows Live IM app. from WM6. I can't find the today screen search.

Today Screen Search
- "Windows Live Search" Confusion Resolved:
1. The file you (windows live mobile, search for "Windows Live Mobile.zip") did contain the application that would allow you to have the very thin search bar on the today screen. It puts a "Windows Live" icon on your applications menu(/screen).
2. Microsoft Live Search ("LiveSearch.cab") is a FANTASTIC application. It puts a "Live Search" icon on your applications menu(/screen). It has these small but very powerful applications built into it: Categories, Map, Directios, Traffic, Movies, and Gas Prices. For example for "Gas Prices", that tells you where you can find gas the cheapest - near where you live! It does NOT have the Today Screen search bar.
For #1 above: How do you change the search default to using Google for it's searches?

Today Screen Search Plugin (Windows Live > Google)
I know this is an old topic, but if someone comes across this post in a search as I did and are still interested in how to change the Windows Live Today Screen Search Plugin to use Google Mobile Search, this is how to do it (for Windows Mobile Pro 6.1; probably be the same for other versions of Windows Mobile as well):
1. Obviously you need a registry editor. I use the free PHM Registry Editor [http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/]
2. Open the registry editor and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Services > Windows Live > HSAppPlugins.
3. I would copy the 'SearchURL' value, then rename it by adding "Backup" after 'SearchURL', then paste, thereby creating an original and a backup just in case. Alternatively you could export 'SearchURL' to back it up.
4. Modify the 'SearchURL' data to: http://www.google.com/m?source=mobileproducts&q=
5. Press Ok and exit the registry editor. A reset of any kind is not necessary, the modified Windows Live Today Screen Search Plugin will work with Google Mobile Search instantly.

The solution is really quite simple. Download Googlesearch.CAB to your phone. Just point PIE to m.google.com/search or you can have them text you the .cab file.
It's actually better than the treo search plugin since it remembers your last query.

Here, I made it even easier....

Hotlinks at homescreen

Hello people,
Firstly after reading I registrated myself since I couldn't find a answer on a question that I've.
At the homescreen of the touch pro you've have two kind of 'hotlinks' (as I call them) called "incomming calls" & "agenda". Note I'm not sure if it is called this since I don't have the english version.
Now I wanted to add some other 'hotlinks' to the homescreen such as 'tasks' and 'notes'. Now can anyone tell me if this is possible with a hack or with another modification?
Nope. You are stuck with what is already there. What alot of people do is use a program called "second today". You can map it to a button on the phone and it gives you another today screen since the touch flo3d takes up the entire screen. On your second screen set it up more like the traditional WinMo with everything you need (Calendar, tasks, wireless, rss feeds, whatever) enabled.
Or, you can disable TF3D and run the "normal" WinMo today.

Differences between Fuze and touch pro + unlock question

Hey I just got my Fuze from ATT and I just had a few questions about it.
What are the differences between the Fuze and the Touch Pro? I specifically remembered reading about a VGA front camera and a Youtube client in the GSM review. I was really looking forward to the youtube client but since it's nonexistent, how do you guys watch youtube videos and just videos in general online? I've tried and it does not work. the only thing that works is Cingular Video. And what about the radio? I thought it was going to be an FM radio, not XM radio.
I also want to unlock my FUZE so I can use it in Hong Kong (vacation). Is that the same as "flashing" or something completely different? If I unlock, can I change it back later on?
Thanks.
1. No front camera for video call as you know.
2. If you're on att ROM, "youtube" is still there; just create a shortcut in Windows\Start Menu\Programs OR you may want to flash some customized ROMs e.g RRE's ROM.
3. FM radio: install a FM radio cab file or flash a custom ROM.
4. Unlock: call att rep and ask for subsidy unlock code. Unlock means you can put any SIM card from any carrier into the phone and start making/receiving call w/o paying the int'l roaming charge.
Here is the good place to get more about your phone http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael
Have fun.
how do you create a shortcut to youtube?
For unlocking, ATT said they only let you do it after 90 days. I'm leaving this December so it's going to be too late by then. That's why I have to unlock it myself. So far it seems like the only way to get it unlocked is by paying someone but i'm just worried about getting ripped off or something.
The mskip thread on flashing says that it's possible to break your phone if you allow the screensaver to activate. Does he mean allowing the phone to turn off the screen? Does he mean to not allow the screen to turn off? Also, what's hardspl mean?
Lastly, I'm using a Macbook. Is it still possible to unlock and flash my phone with a Mac? Thanks.
Oh forgot to ask about this too: What about the GPS? How do you get it to work on ATT? I know I have a free trial for a month so I thought I'd give it a try. I installed the navigator but it gave me a website asking for a login and pw. btw, is it possible to get GPS without paying for it or do you have to have a subscription?
Navigation
Hey i have never used that att navigator if you want a free one.. google nav4all its pretty good and you can get maps for most any country so check it out
Is it a free trial? Do you eventually have to pay?

I use amazegps.com. It's permanently free (ad-supported); Nav4All will eventually start charging, AIUI. The amazegps Windows Mobile version is still in beta and has just released a new version, so there are still a couple of bugs and issues; in particular, the "search" function is switching to a new information provider in the U.S. and so the "local search" function isn't working at the moment. The navigation features work really well, though, with voice prompts and moving 3D maps, etc.
The GPS receiver in the Fuze is a bit finicky. The best advice, AFAICT, is to:
1) Turn off Assisted GPS (Start->Settings->System->AGPS Settings).
2) Set the GPS program port to COM4 (Start->Settings->System->External GPS).
3) Use QuickGPS at least once a week.
4) Download GPSTest, set it to COM4, and run it to start up the GPS unit before running a navigation program. (This is only needed if it's been more than a couple of hours since you last used the GPS; hot start is acceptably fast, but warm starts -- using the QuickGPS download -- can take several minutes, and it's better to use GPSTest to watch what's going on than to listen to your navigation system complaining about not being able to find the satellites.)

Using File Explorer (in Programs->Tools, as I recall), navigate to \Windows and scroll down close to the bottom of the list. You'll see a couple of executable files named "YouTube". Tap-and-hold on the larger one and tap on "Copy" from the pop-up menu. Then navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and pick Edit->Paste Shortcut from the lower-right Menu button.
i found the youtube.exe file but when i go to programs to paste it, there's no edit button.
Hold your stylus down until the menu appears, there you will see the Paste Shortut option. I also like to us GSfinder instead of the file explorer that comes with it.
http://page.freett.com/todamitsu/GSFinderE.htm
i just tried holding down on the stylus but no menu pops up but it didn't
work. the youtube client works but i can't move it. it's start - programs - then paste right?
Btw, are you guys all using PCs to add these new programs onto your phone? If I have a Mac, then is it still possible?
and for the weather, right now I'm in Ithaca but I guess it wasn't important enough to be in the weather app. Is there a way to put in Ithaca? Thanks.
GPS on Raphael (aka FUZE, Touch PRO) takes looooong time to get a fix vs. Tilt (6 min vs. under 3 min) and not to mention about lagging, too. I'm on Tomtom 7 in USA and Garmin XT elsewhere. With those applications you don't have to have internet access on the go.
Create a shortcut, I normally use "Resco File Explorer". Browse to the exe file which you want to have a shortcut, tap and hold the stylus, then choose "send to" then "Start Menu as Shortcut" Trial version does the job, in case you don't want to shell out some money.
Worldmate standard version (now free) does have weather in which you can put your zipcode. Want to use in Manila Weather? Search for "Weather Database Editor"
If you don't have a PC, buy one then Just kidding! You can use cab file to install application.
Thanks Nghiem.
Hm, so I can't use the file explorer that came with the phone?
What is a cab file and how do you use it? Is it related to those "tweaks"? Do you have to flash your phone before you can use these things? And what's the hardspl?
On games, how do you guys get them? I used to have a Sony Ericsson w810 and I was able to download and install java games for free. Is it possible to do the same with the Fuze? I want to play Brain Challenge 2 lol (the demo was fun).

[Q] Samsung Jack i637 Help

Got an AT&T Jack and need all the help I can get with this phone.
Hardly any .cabs will run on it and the GPS is locked (tried all the unlock tricks for the BJII).
This really is a nice phone, its just sooooo hindered by AT&T its not funny.
Thanks
I just got it yesterday..loving the phone and all the features ..when you mean the gps is locked ) what exactly you mean..I've been using google maps ,live search, and att navigator and my phone is fresh out the box..
Really, ok theres hope. Trying to get Garmin XT to work. Don't want to pay for att nav, and no data plan. Any ideas there, also gps test cant find the gps device.
And How do I set ringtones? I can't figure this darn thing out.
Am working on the ringtones well how to set my own mp3 ( i tried cutting a mp3 down to 30sec and pasted into my documents and ringtones and it didnt work) i hate the stock ringtones..If am correct i had read somewhere that the gps has to be set to com4 .. I was reading in another forum that they are working to security unlock our phone ( so no more permission not allowed when installing cabs) Keep you posted
Thank you so much, btw what is the other forum, I love forums on phones
Got the ringtones: 30 seconds, under 300kb, MP3, My Ringtone folder works for me.
Jsanta which forum did you see the activities to app unlock the Jack? I tried every possible availible tool also but no luck
GPS is not locked. Both Google Maps and Live Search Mobile worked without any tweaks. Acquisition is nearly instantaneous.
Ringer MP3's are capped by the same filesizelimit registry key (300kb) that was installed on the Blackjack 2.
The problem is the registry on the i637 is locked, so a registry editor is no help. I have dug around in the registry and found the security settings, but I cannot make any changes due to the locked registry. I posted them on the ATT/Samsung forum linked here:
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=samsung&thread.id=70827&page=5
Anybody know how to unlock the i637's registry?
Thanks for that link bch, saw it back a few days ago and it had 2 posts and forgot it. Wow how its grown.
Also could you please explain how to use CHome to do the contacts like yours, god that would help me.
And when I run chome I get errors on alot of things is this normal?
CHome Configurator (CC) will generate registry error messages when you (a) launch it and (b) save changes. Regardless of the error messages, the program runs and the changes do save and work perfectly.
This is how I set up my sliding panel for speed dialing:
Open CHome Config. Then do the following:
Menu > Panel > New, click yes when asked if you want to create a new panel.
Name the panel "speed dial" or something that suits you. The newly created panel wil appear in the list of panels; highlight it then click "show" on left soft button. This makes it visible on the homescreen; conversely, any panel can be hidden from view on the homescreen by clicking "hide."
Click on the panel to edit it. An editing window will open, click Menu > Page > New. When asked, confirm you want to create a new page.
Click Menu > Template > Contact Dialer. Choose contact phone number from your contacts list. If it's not a mobile #, it will ask if you want to enable SMS (text mssg) for this contact. Click yes if you want to use a speed e-mail for this contact. Click yes when it asks if you want to use the contact photo for the contact.
If you are using e-mail instead of SMS, then you need to manually edit the last field on the page which identifies the messaging service. Replace "SMS" with the name of the e-mail account you want to use, e.g. "Hotmail". Importantly, and not intuitively, if you want to use Outlook E-mail, then you need to insert "ActiveSync". Do not get this field confused with the one for the right soft-button, which you might want to change to "Send E-Mail" or similar instead of "SMS."
For each contact, create a new page and format as described above. Then click Done. Then Menu > Exit. You will be prompted to save. Doing so will give you two registry error messages (at least on the i637, it will), but ignore them by hitting OK. The speed dial panel will now appear amongst the sliding panels on your homescreen.
CHome also gives you the ability to change the order that panels appear on your homescreen under Menu > Panels.
Good luck!
Oh, I forgot to add:
When editing the last field to change from SMS to e-mail, you need to insert the e-mail address in the place of the phone number. So, "555-555-555" would be changed to "[email protected]"
Again, you only do this if you want to use e-mail with this contact and not SMS (text mssg).
Thank you sooo much
my phone is locked also
i cant seem to run anything that does not have a certificate or digitally signed.
the phone has a two-tier security enabled. I used security confi manager to verify.
Also i cant get Garmen xt to recognize the GPS.
I tried Ceregeditor and can not change any registry settings.
Thank you for your time,
Felipe

I feel the same way , no data plan or att Nav, why give ATT more money when we already payed for the phone.
Felipe, have you tried Windows Live Mobile and/or Google Maps? Both work with GPS on my phone, but I haven't tested anything else. I know it's not a solution, but if we can track the performance over several phones, we might get closer to a solution.
I can confirm that mine worked fresh out of the box with both of these apps.
BCH238,
Windows Live Mobile is working and it sees the GPS using intermediate driver.
Now if we can only unlock the GPS intermediate driver so that garmin xt can see it.
I had to do this for the blackjack 2 using MoDaCo.SmartphoneGPSActivator.COM4.CAB
but i can not run this in Jack because its locked down. and the cab is not certified.
So far nothing GPS related, except google, live or, att (that have been mentioned so far), will see the gps device.
Is there a way to get google or live to not use data and read maps off of storage?
I cant even get pocket streets 2004 to run. then again it is old.
NOT WORKING:
GPStest
Garmin
tomtom
MS Pocket streets 2004 won't install too old
Argh....
It is a shame AT&T has crippled this so badly. All I want is to make a few modest tweaks that were no problem on my original Blackjack. Oh well, hopefully someone will come up with a workaround to unlock the registry in the not-too-distant future...
no maps off of storage
the only option i found was cache maps on SD card. but it still uses dataplan when you launch live maps.

In the same boat.....
I have the same problem with my Propel Pro....can't unlock the bloomin registry....AT&T is killing me!! I've waited to find a good deal on a wm smartphone that I could tweak and customize but I'm feeling really unsatisfied with this device so far....I've tries all sorts of reg editors and unlock methods to no avail....anyone have any luck yet????
None yet. At&t and Samsung have really locked these babies down. IT SUCKS.
Is there a way to build a cab file out of one that will install (ex. google maps)
with the regestery mods (out of one of the unlocker cabs) needed to unlock the phone. Basically tricking it.

[Q] google.com desktop version on wp7

Hi,
Whenever I visit google.com on my Omnia 7 it defaults to the mobile version even though I've selected Desktop Version in the settings. I have to click "Classic" on google's website to get the desktop version which still isn't the real desktop version because it is lacking the filtering bar on the left side.
Is it possible to get the full desktop version on wp7?
I have the same problem on my Mozart running Mango RTM. Also when searching with google and going to a link it seems as if I am using google a a proxy as I visit the site through Google.
If I set it to classic its fine. I really wish there was an Opera mobile for phone7
I had that problem, but when I upgraded my Omnia 7 to Mango RTM it stopped..
If you open Internet Explorer, click the three dots, click settings you'll see an option that says "Website Preference." Change that to desktop version and this should fix your issue. However, all sites will turn into their full site, instead of their mobile.
You may need to re-click the "Classic" button on Google for it to change.

It's already on desktop version. It gives me Google's mobile site and I have to click classic which gives me the desktop version but without the sidebar options for search filtering. I was looking for the one with the sidebar.
Bump! I think simple cookie expiration date override may help, does anyone have a clue how to implement one?

Maps business/POI search disabled by MS - FIX!

Did the native Maps app on Your Windows Phone 7 device suddenly loose the ability to find the local Starbucks? Does it keep coming back with "No Results Found" for anything other than city names or addresses? Did the search button, which used to bring up bing search with scout, music, vision, and voice search options, suddenly decide to just open up Bing in IE? Well, apprently MS and it's partners have hacked your registry disabling such searching, hoping to finally prompt You to throw that perfectly working two-three year old device in the trash to upgrade to a WP8/10 device (if You're not pissed enough to go to Android yet).
Don't worry though, if Your WP7 search button and Bing Maps search is not working, It's fixable; here's what they changed:

The "VersionA" config version has even worse settings for some other locales, disabling everything from the looks of it. Take a look at the attached reg files for details (I renamed to .txt; CARE NOT TO APPLY TO YOUR PC REG OR IT WILL BRICK YOUR PC!!!).
So, the solution; all You've got to do is change the "CurrentVersion" value under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\SearchMaps\Configuration\Versions\] from "VersionA" back to "Default".
If You're so inclined (I know I am), You can also delete the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\SearchMaps\Configuration\Versions\VersionA] key alltogether.
On My Radar, this not only restored the maps search capabilities, but also restored the search button!!!
Some background:
Starting sometime in September I noticed that the search feature in the native Maps app on my Radar seemed broken; it stopped working to pull up businesses, POI, and anything other than city names or complete addresses. "Seattle" worked fine, but anything like 'coffee', 'gas', 'library', or even 'starbucks' came up with "No results found". I did some searching and apparently I wasn't the only one; with the end of WP7 support MS and it's partners seem to have been neutering features such as the search button (now goes directly to bing, remember voice search anyone?) etc. I flashed Deepshining Radar v4.0 WP7.8 and switched to the Nokia marketplace so I could have Here Maps and Drive, that at least got me search functionality with info better than gMaps and voice navigation, but slower on these older devices, and split in to two apps :/. While HTC Locations also looked promising, it could not seem to find an internet connection when it needed it, and the interface is pretty rough.
Magically though, the Maps search was working again, so I was stoked, but not for long...a half a day later the search died again, and again i was only able to search for addresses. I did another factory reset, this time the search worked only for minutes until the phone finished configuring itself. The only difference was I left the SIM in. I tried it again with the SIM out, letting the phone finish doing it's thing till I got that first "5 tips for getting the most from your WP" text message before I put in the sim. This kept search working for a few hours again. This confirmed My suspicion that some setting was getting changed somewhere.
Out came wp7 root tools and reg backup. I looked around and found maps/search related settings under HKLM\System\SearchMaps, as well as some stuff under HKLM\System\OnlineServices\providers\bing\mapslocal and some other places) so I took dumps of HKLM\system before and after, compared them, and this is what I found. See attached for complete dumps.
I changed the config version back to 'default', and everything works again, including the Search button!!!
Took Me all weekend to figure out, Hope this helps anyone else in the same situation.
It's still working days later, I'm pretty sure it's a permanent fix now.
Hi, Thank you so much
Thanks for sharing.. but can you give a bit of details, I'm supposing my device should be interop unlocked.. which is not at all, can You direct me to the best thread with the most simplified steps to do so ?? Thanks !
