i got my hsdpa workin a while ago and have done several test on dslreports.com/mspeed and get 800 - 900k in the orlando area... i got a java emulator(sp?) for my treo 750 and installed opera mini 3.0 ... went back to dslreports and tried to do a 1mb speed test and it says "unstable/too fast a result please choose a larger file... so whats goin on with that??? how is 1mb too big? whats goin on? are my speeds faster now just because of the browser? whats goin on? can anyone help?
Opera mini does not make direct connections between your cellphone and a webserver. All requests get sent to an Opera proxie. Opera downloads your webpage, compresses and optimizes it, then sends the compressed and optimized page to your cell.
So in essence, dslreports isn't seeing your Treo, rather it is seeing Opera's high speed servers.
ahhh thats what it is... thank you very much... for clearing that up... i was so confused i was like if its giving me that error that means my speed is over 1mbps and i was excited about that... but nvm i see where your coming from.. thank you for the reply.
I installed it yesterday, and was getting close to 600k.
However today I am only getting 280k. Does this mean it is not working, or is it just slow now?
just do a soft reset on your 750 and it should work fine...

As one of many people who are astonished by the amount of battery drained in a day where not much is done (besides push mail) but 90% of my battery is drained in 12 hrs, here's my thought on a program/hack:
Set default network (Edge)
On launch of (program) switch network to (HSDPA)
With the aiblity to add multiple programs (Java (for opera mini), Opera Mobile, IE, Slingplayer, etc...).
The reason? Pushing email as it comes is important, but it doesn't need to suck up my 3G batterylife. I'd switch it to Edge permanently, but it's a hassle switching to 3G (and back) each time I want to run something that really needs the extra speed.
It'd save a TON of battery life.
Thoughts? Anyone capable of doing this?
thx
Robert

I'm very interested in something like this, it would save most all of our batteries! And save me from having to manually switch it off and on all the time.

The latest comm manager from the Hermes might do the trick, I used to have a Hermes and I was using the 2G for push mail and if I needed to stream something I would manually swith to HSDPA...
I have attached the comm manager.....

I have attached a working Comm manager with 3G to 2G switching enabled....
What about this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=54098&d=1192271410
It's dutythroy_black-3g-comm-manager_.cab.fixed from the Kaiser Cabs thread - might do the trick.
If the one posted last is the same as the one I downloaded a while back (wow a few days is a while back?) then it does work very well. The only thing is. it isnt like the poster asked. It works, but its not automatic. where when connecting using say, IE, Opera, etc it will switch to high speed, and things like downloading weather, or email updates would be regular. Basically app dependant.

True, but I would say that would be pretty impractical because the switching takes quite a while.....
It takes a while either way you do it (the hardware+drivers switch from 2G to 3G slow, not the program). So even if you find an app to do this automatically it will still do it slowly.
yo can always set what network apps use in the connection settings under advanced. Just have your normal email and suxh use the cellular line and then have the other use the "work" connection that is set to "cellular 3G" 10 points to the first person that figures out how to make it work!! I already have it working on my kaiser so I know it does also DanialHero has a great app I forget whats it called might also suit your needs well,
im using the comm manager of durotthy and its works great

Does 3G really make that significant of a difference on battery life? I upgraded from a Wizard and the battery life seems almost the same for me. They both used direct push too.

Not to me.. 3G is a bit more of a battery saver where I am since EDGE is so horrible in signal strength in Central Texas. ROM choice also makes a big difference - the HTC and AT&T ROMs offer much better battery life than most of the cooked ones (i.e., the AKU 0.7 ones, in my case).
I run Directpush with about 30 minutes of calls a day and am at about 65% when I go to bed at night (I charge overnight) and can easily make it from Friday night to Monday morning with the light email load and maybe only 15 minutes of calls over the entire time.
Signal strength makes a BIG difference. That is what makes my office mates jealous since I can get days from the device (the Tilt and then the 8525 before) while they can barely budge 10 hours on their Sprint/Verizon devices.
Hi everyone. I got a question last night i yast update my g1 to the htc magic rom. And today morning i yast notice am not getting my 3g network connetion. Since then i been getting a H network conneting wich is like 3.6 mbps thats my undestanding on looking around. I got the sapphire 5.0 rom update. My connetion has not even drop in the place were it always drop on the way to school all the time in my 3g or E connetion. But with H it didnt even drop and still going. And to tell you i fine it even faster. Way faster am happy if is yast me but is real fast. Does anyone knows what this is. Cuse to my undestanding since i got my g1 last year i had only 3g or E but not H network conneting. Thank you!!! Everyone.
Rhonal .
H is probably HSPDA.
To clarify.... H = 3G.
Yea that's what I found out. But last time o checked I didn't have hspds. Don't know why I have it now. Its a lot faster wait you nary quick too.

You're probably using the 5.0.2H build right? If so, that's just simply the build's icon to tell you you're in 3G+ speed. You don't have anything "faster" than our 3G. Topic has been covered in the port thread.
Maybe is yast me imagining thing like Is faster or something. Your mine is a powerful thing. Thanks everyone for helping out.
I just got my Sensation 4g from Walmart. It is on HSPA+ on T-Mobile and when trying to open a web site or sync Facebook or use any kind of data for that matter it is slow to connect if it even connects at all. I then have to hit refresh a few times before it actually kicks in. Is anyone having any similar issues? I had a myTouch4g previously and never experienced this.

Yep mine too. Somtimes its super fast. Sometimes super slow
Had the same exact issue. All good now. Even WiFi was capped at 1.5 download for some reason.

i noticed that also with mines.. even when it dies get a bit fast it is still just a tad faster than what my nexus s was. I live in Orlando, one of tmo's supposid biggest 4g markets
I've also noticed the same thing.
Same thing here. Did a speed test and it says I am only getting 573 kbps download and 217 kbps upload
I had dial-up that's faster than that lol
EDIT: Tried running the test again, and I keep getting a network connection error, and it won't even run the test. but I got 4 bars. Wtf?
Its not that my speeds are that slow its like it takes forever to start going. Its annoying because the first time it never works right away. Has anyone been able to find a fix? It reminds me of my Nexus. If this continues I definititly cant keep this phone. A radio update might be the only fix

I'm thinking HTC could fix a lot of their issues with an update. Include a radio update, a software update for the touchscreen problems, and unlock the bootloader, all in one package hopefully
We soups should report this on their fb page

Experiencing the same thing; this morning on the way in had 4 bars of 4g and it wouldn't connect to anything. Reboot fixed it; then it happened again. Very tempted to return and wait it out for a little bit.
Also been getting "error 502's" all over the place...egh
Try this.
Speed up the latency on your Sensation
Market loads instantly now.
Thanks digi, I was just about to post this. Its working great for me!

I'm having the same issues. Full bars of 4G coverage, but one minute I'm getting 9Mbps download speeds, the next minute everything is timing out. It's gotten very frustrating.
The "fix" posted above did nothing for me.

Samsung introduced a new feature on the SGS2 called "Fast Dormancy." It's a battery saving feature that disconnects data when not active. It might be a feature in 2.3 and HTC might have enabled it too. Maybe you guys can find the toggle.
Here's the SGS2 thread...

This is exactly what's happening with me. I think it mgiht be a coverage thing, I checked the coverage map and it shows as Moderate at best in my little area

There are a couple of reasons I don't believe it's a coverage issue. Mainly, I'm within 200 yds of a tower. When data is working, it's really strong. If the signal were weak, I can't imagine getting 9 Mbps download speeds. The speeds would be consistently poor rather than excellent one minute and not working at all the next. Also, nobody else in the area with a TMO 4G phone is having this issue.
Hey everyone, I am going nuts with skype not working like it did on my old HTC Leo and thought I would ask everyone this.
I know why skype craps out for me, the download speed is good but the upload I get is around 10kbs. Now my old 3g leo could skype like a champ and I often used it that way, but now with the one S I can't seem to do it. I assume its the awful upload speed issue but I am in Naperville IL myself and can't see why I get fast download but the upload speed seems to be crap or will burst for a moment and then just stop.
Could anyone else let me know if it's a problem or do a speed test for me so I know if it's just me or what?
I live in Denver area, and these are my speeds. It does appear that it may just be something with your area, but I'm not sure.
At my house I'm about 8-11 Mbps constant down with 3-4 Mbps up.

:Fixed: It was a Hyperdrive ROM issue for some reason. Dunno what it was, but I liked the ROMs. Just like browsing the internet more
Posted this on other forums with zero results. Hopefully I can get some help here because my mobile data browsing has become basically un-usable now. I don't even bother getting on the internet unless there is a Wifi connection close by.
I have a Verizon S3 rooted with Hyperdrive RLS14 ROM on it, and out of the blue last week, my internet became ungodly slow. It'll get to the 50% mark, and just stay there for 30-40 seconds before opening the page. Looking at the up and down 4G arrows, they just seem to stop for a while like it isn't asking for data anymore, then it resumes.
It works perfectly on Wifi, and when I do bandwidth tests on mobile data, the dl speeds are slower than normal(8Mbps now vs. 35Mbps before), but still within the acceptable range. I have tried it in multiple large cities, and it still seems to freeze up on websites. I haven't installed any new programs either. I feel like I am trying to look at porn with dial-up internet. Any ideas?
I do have unlimited data and it hasn't ever been throttled on my account.
Things I have tried so far:
new SIM card
3 different browsers; FF, Boat, and Chrome
Scanned for viruses using AVG
rebooting
Fixing permissions via recovery(twice)
Deleting everything off of the phone in recovery mode and re-installing two different versions of ROMs (RLS14 and RLS15)

1) I have tried both Hyperdrive ROMs a couple of times to no avail. Thing is, it worked fine up until two weeks ago
2) I'll give that a shot later this afternoon, but still no idea why it randomly did this
3) I have a few friends with the Verizon GS3, and they haven't had any problems with internet browsing. It is also happening in two large cities with full 4G coverage
I'd like to figure out why this happened to prevent it next time. Like I said, I didn't do anything different to the phone. It just randomly stopped working.

Bump because this issue is ongoing, and has actually gotten a little worse. I upgraded my baseband to MF1 and it did nothing. In the RLS15 Dev thread, it seems like a few other people are having the exact same issue
Did a bandwidth test in New Orleans earlier and the results were:
ping 122ms
dl 48.41 Mbps
ul 18.07 Mbps
Definitely fast enough, but internet browsing is basically non-existent now. Every other app that uses mobile data works perfectly, just not any internet browsers(Boat, FF, Chrome)
