Will we get crossbow? - Palm Treo 750

What you think guys?

Unlikely, but hey, it's worth a shot! I for one would love it But I just might have to wait for a new device to come out with it. I'd love it for my TyTN, but I don't want to have another phone lying around that I'm not using...Just seems like a waste especially when I spent $600 on the Treo.

I don't think we'll get it officially for the 750v. I think it'll even be harder to get it on the Treo as palm has made a lot of customizations to WM, compared to other HTC manufactured devices.

I seriously doubt they will, sadly, as we have 40 users with the 750v and Exchange 2007, some of those features would have been really handy!

Hey...
The scene here is getting pretty glum here, aint it? How many of you all think so or otherwise?!
Same old bl00dy roms with only version "number" changes, no real upgrades, same old same old same old [email protected]
I'm getting real bored with Uni, and theres no real device upgrade as well to it...and looks like MS has taken a complete time out in updating their OS...nothings changed since years if you look at it....ppc2003, wm5, wm6....all minor upgrades here and there, nothing break through types....
Everyday i check the forums atleast twice, and the activity is slowly dying too....nothing major, guess its the end of the road for the Uni.....sighhh...

oh! i didnt mean to offend the cookers in any way!
Heres the angle im coming from....
My frustrations are mainly from MS :-/
They hardly seem to be making any changes to the OS. When i talk about new rom version numbers, i mean MS releasing updates with no changes....im not refering to rom cookers with new versions.
Also, the other angle is with googles new announcement, the android....i dont want google taking over because MS is being lazy and doing nothing but sitting on their asses now
cheers,
And i definitely appreciate all rom cookers efforts, as a matter of fact, they're the only ones keeping the platform alive...

Dude, if are bored with ROMs, do something else on your universal. Get some new apps to play with. Do away with your boredom.
PS: I'm selling my atom life and again getting a new universal next week(having some hardware problems with my atom life)

Haha, nothing like Universal. No wonder I have 2 of them!
Don't like WinMo, you can try Linux instead:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=251584
If you are bored, then I recommend you try some custom apps with your Uni to spruce things up a bit:
http://lakeridgesoftware.com/
Additionally, look at the difference between 2003SE, WM5 and WM6 - Microsoft has been doing alot to improve WinMo - and with the 'threat' of the iPhone and Android (Read: the gPhone) WM7 should be awesome!!

I Strongly disagree. M$ did gave us:
1. persistent memory
2. battery/memorymanagement, still I like to see standard 128MB RAM at least!
3. cosmetic improvements
4. slowing down the performance compared with WM2003SE
Nothing more, nothing less since WM5
The cookers try to give us more then M$ ev er did. They put in what M$ didn't!

Indeed.. I would have kept atom life though if quanta would have done the homework properly. Its quite a nice device and having 1GB internal memory is a BIG asset. The processor is able to play movies which are encoded at very bit rates and high resolutions so smoothly that will surely make one wonder about the capabilities of a pocket pc phone

Hi KDSKamal,
Make sure that you buy G3 Universal, so that you can have about 20MB of Flash Disk available on kdskamal's beautiful ROM!
Cheers,
KOR!
The battery connector of the Atom Life turned out to be flimsy on mine. It is on the verge of getting unusable now. My friend also has the same device and his too is little weak. The new Atom Life don't seem to suffer from this problem(since it has been rectified). Also, not all had this problem. So, the one which you buy may or may not suffer from this problem. Also, the power button sometimes works and sometimes, it doesnt.
Since the person from which I bought it is giving my money back, I'm thinking to get a brand new universal(he is a local seller in my area(nothing special))
@KOR: getting a G3 universal is tough because G3 ones only rolled out in the market when the device was new in the market. Now, its almost ~2y since it has been in this market. So, I surmise only G4s are avaliable

Hi KDSKamal,
I bought my both Universals this year at eBay. The Xda Exec was bought in February of this year and the Jasjar was bought in July of this year.
These were both brand new devices with one year warranty. When I bought them, I didn't know what G3 or G4 was, but did fell in love with Universal!
Best regards,
KOR!

We are idiots, not HTC!

Do you think when you buy a porsche or a ferrari and you can not drive because the wheel fell of or the windshield blew off in the middle of nowhere the factory tells you: oh sorry this a new model, you keep testing it and maybe if we get enough complaints we will fix it. NO!
When you pay top dollar you get a device that works out of the box, period.
HTC is using us as their testers, but makes us pay a 1000$ for it and lose our time perfecting a half-product they placed on the market before it should be released, plus the customer service treats us as idiots and lies directly : oh we got a lot of good feedback...(yeah right like I was going to call them to say how good a device is), or we dont know anything about a gps lag....f*uck you sit in the car a take a drive idiot!!

So, what you're saying is HTC is just like Windows? ;-)
i agree htc brings out to many high tech phones.with a very high price tag.but there are always major bugs.no kinda of exception for a $900 usd phone that all of sudden does't have 3g.
now most us owners lost a good $300 of the price in less than a month because it doesn't support 3g.htc doesn't even say there working on a new radio.
i know apple brings out a new product every 90 days,at least they listen and stay with product updates.

Oh come on. Everyone knows that if you are an early adopter, things never work quite as they ought to. Happens with every major tech release. It shouldn't but it does.
The reality is that the majority of features on the TP work just fine and fortunately thanks to the geniuses on this forum, the GPS lag has been all but eliminated. No doubt at some point (provided we press HTC), a fix will be released.
So when you get your Nokia, you should look forward to a whole different set of problems - no platform is even close to perfect.

This post I really can't agree with, when they released it they never intended it for North American sale, and you knew that when you bought it. Did you read the part in the specs where it said UMTS 900/2100? If you did, you should've said "hey, this doesn't work with 3G on AT&T... I'm not going to buy it." Why don't we blame Toyota for their Corolla not running on diesel? Oh yeah, because it was never meant to.
When I got my N95, the battery life was terrible, it kept running out of memory and i had to use hacks to bypass their silly protection and install unsigned apps. I also had to use nemesis suite to hack the device and change the product code to prevent it from loosing Greek when I used Nokia's updater to upgrade the firmware, which cannot be downgraded and now, newer devices and latest firmwares cannot be hacked yet, so if you do buy one you won't be able to install unsigned apps.
At least with HTCs we have this magnificent community to create custom ROMs and rectify most problems. Just my .2 cents
Hands down...best $1100 I've spent in a long time. I knew going into it that I wouldn't have 3G here in the US. The advantages I have over my T-Mobile Wing (US HTC Phone) is countless. I have minimal glitches, but with all phones that do more than make calls, it is to be expected. I'll be a beta tester anytime for HTC!
i totally agree with the OP,in other hand if the devices were perfect we would not have XDA devs
what 1 must realize in todays competitive markets things get rushed out the door to make a buck ,hence why all devices will be never out of beta stage. there is 2 solutions for the problem; 1- stop buying new devices .2- learn to live with it.
well the thing is that HTC doesent even want to realize that their devices have flaws. And all the flaws are software related. In other words fixable. just look at the TyTn2 and the driver issues there. There still is no fix from HTC. And people here on the forum had to use drivers from the Diamond to fix it. HTC just keeps on making excuses like the HTC Pro was never ment to be a multimedia device when support is confronted with the fact that the TP plays video poorer that the Diamond. I know that the pro istn a multimedia device. But i expect that the hardware that i have paid alot of money for actually does what its supposed to. Why on earth shouldnt it? I love my TP, but HTC should reallt take care of their reputation..

I've been developing software for mobile devices for five years, and worked with hundreds of models of handset from Europe and North America. I'd rate HTC devices as "above average" in terms of quality. Nokia are neither better nor worse. Get the first Nokia models of a new series, you're in for some "fun".
I have a Nokia. The MP3 player causes the phone to reboot randomly. If I cross timezones, then when I get home, some birthdays in the calendar have moved to the wrong day. Sometimes, it suddenly stops working, saying that the "SIM Locked", and I can't make or receive calls until I reboot it. It's Orange branded, so the Nokia firmware update tool won't support it. Other than that, it works a treat...
I could give you a similar list of problems with other Nokia models, or Sony Ericssons, or Motorolas... and I wouldn't even consider a Samsung, NEC or LG.
And I suspect that anyone buying a Ferrari for the reliability will be sorely disappointed.

It seems to me that what's getting under your skin the most is that customer service is saying their aren't serious problems, and that the phone is primarily working as intended.
Well, thats their job. Have you not ever seen a CSC in person at a corporate office? It's a bunch of highschool grads who don't know anything about anything that just talk nice, create a ticket in whatever helpdesk software they are using, and forward it or close it.
Just call in, politely state your problem, and if they get enough calls logged, development takes notice and things get fixed.
I think what you need more than an $1100 phone, is a $20.00 script for Xanax. Best of luck with Nokia though.
Mobile phone manufacturer in 'not everything works properly' shocker.
Our brand new Audi had a digital display that was on the blink from the moment we bought it. And sometimes the front windows would lower themselves 6 inches after you'd locked the car and walked away. Lots of other owners had the same thing. Think Audi fixed it? Fixed any of them? The replacement Porsche (I'm not showing off here by the way) has an lumpy idle, unreliable horn and the steering pulls harshly to the left. Fixes from Porsche? As if.
In common with a previous poster, my experience with Nokias was far more frustrating than with HTC. And if you want diabolical, allow me a few hours to relate my experience of being the fairly happy owner of a Sony Ericsson P800 even happier with the P900 and then to be floored by the abomination that was the P910. Never never again.
Yes mobile phone manufacturers are guilty of getting things wrong, but in that knowlege, I'm just happy I own an HTC and know about this forum.

Amen to that brother. While I may not own the Touch Pro, Fuze, or whatever the hell you feel like calling it, I know for me personally, HTC has put out some of the best phones I've ever used. I remember way back when, I was in love the Moto Razr (ew, I know) but then I laid eyes on the good ol' boy that was the Cingular 8125 aka the Wizard. I've been hooked on HTC ever since. Lets face it, if you try to go back to a cheesy ass LG or Samsung phone, you're going to be disappointed as all hell. They just don't compare to the customizable nature of the WinMo HTC devices. Granted pretty much all of HTC phones have had (and still have) their share of issues, but lets get real here, they are simply the ****. I've had my 8525 since its release and there's no way I'd switch to the X1 for example. SE?? Would you rather have a WinMo rookie in SE or the season veteran that is HTC? I don't know about you guys, but I like experience.

Processor Impact of Leo Compared to Touch Pro2

I know that the Leo has a better processor. Unfortunately I am on verizon and I am in need of a new phone. The touch pro2 seems like an amazing phone but I am worried about how future proof it will be. From what I read up on, the touch pro2 is supposed to be short lived. So I must ask, does anyone think there will be a time in the next year when the touch pro2 wont be able to handle something from the leo or any other snapdragon/tegra device? I know it wont handle it as well, but what are the possibilities of it not handling the program at all? Of course, this is purely speculation, but I just want to see what your opinions are.

Get an HTC TOUCH HD2 mate !!
Here is a comparison of HTC TOUCH HD2 vs HTC TOUCH HD.
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=8348
He's on a US CDMA carrier. Chances are if the HD2 does make it to the US, it'll be 2-3 months before an unlocked US GSM version with American bands, and another 1-2 months before any carriers (CDMA or GSM) pick it up. So... if a phone needs to be purchased any time soon, the HD2 is out of the question.
As for your question, do I think the TP2 will be short lived? Maybe, I think the HD2 is what HTC hopes to be the last hurrah before WM7. If you look at the roadmap that was leaked a while ago for this year, the only device that has not been released yet is the Athena replacement. I don't know if the original Athena was released on VZ, but the Athena replacement is the last phone to be on HTC's leak from earlier this year.
Touch pro 2 does not meet the minimum requirements of Windows Phone 7 but that does not mean that it won't be a phone that lasts. People are still using Hermes phones today. The Qualcomm 7200 processesors in the HD, Diamond 2 and Touch pro 2 will still likly be comparable to other Windows Phone 6.5 devices.
If you dream about having a Windows Phone 7 device when it comes out then hold out the TP2 may not be able to support it. If 6.5 is good enough for you then it's a great phone.
Thanks for the replies guys. My phone just bit the dust so I am really looking into what I can use for awhile. I looked up the leaked windows mobile 7 requirments and am sad to see that the tp2 wont meet that. But, then again, nothing out now or coming out soon will meet that. Hopefully some of these smart rom makers will be able to get us wm7 when we dont meet those requirements.
So basically its either grab the tp2 or wait for the motorola droid. I am not sure how impressed I am with android though. From what we have seen from the droid, it looks good. But I have not been impressed by the past android devices. What do you all think, both on the chance winmo 7 will run on current devices and the choice between the tp2 and droid?
Hmm well I think your choices are fairly limited if you want a new phone now. The TP2 is the same old slow **** we are used to from HTC for years. It will simply not compare to a phone with a modern chipset. Now, I don't have an HD2 yet (though it has been ordered) but I have played with TG01 which - though sometimes also laggy - completely blows the TP2 out of the water.
Not just the TG01 either. The Samsung Omnia II, Omnia Pro, and Armani 2 also completely blow the TP2 away. In fact, I have two TP2's and they have been gathering dust with virtually no use, in favor of the Samsung's, because the TP2 is just so godawfully slow.
The TP2 is in no way future-proof, it will not be able to keep up with your granny, and you will enjoy it a lot less than you might hope. It's a shameful display, scrap metal.
Then again, as I recall the better devices are not available in the US, so you're pretty much stuck with it... but believe me you're not getting your monies worth from it.
As for WM7, the rumor is the kernel testing device is an i780, which cannot keep up with even the TP2. So it's probably technically possible with some hacking to run WM7 on the thing. As for future apps not being able to run, it's quite possible for a handful of apps, though I would not call it likely until we hit WM7.

Yea I am definitely stuck in the US. Plus I want a hardware keyboard. So that takes out a lot of them. From a strictly verizon bound device, what would you recommend chainfire?
Also, thanks for the info on the i780. Thats something that brightened up my outlook on winmo7.
Side note: I played around with the tp2 and liked it and thought it was pretty fast. But this is coming from a guy who hasn't been able to touch a device with modern chipsets.

I think with your requirements the TP2 is pretty much the only "choice" you have, though I am not intimate with what Verizon has on offer.
The question (for you - and only you can answer this) is, do you want to spend the ****load of money the TP2 will cost you on a device like the TP2 ? Perhaps you would be better off bridging the period until HD2+kb release with a dumbphone, or whatever. That's a personal thing, I don't know how the contract structure works with Verizon, how much it'll cost you, what you have to spend, how long you will be stuck with it, etc. And then, it is matter of how heavily those different parts of the equation weigh for you.
You just need to be aware of what you are buying - if you are, and are happy with it, great.
The new rumor is that the HD 2 cdma, the HTC Passion, will soon be in Verizon stores powered by Android 2.0
It may be time to wait , at least a little while longer.

Hmmmm. I am going to have to look this over more. I hope an hd2+kb comes out soon, but I think that would be 6months or so (especially in the US) before we ever see that coming about. Ideally, I would want to go with a phone that you mentioned thats better than the tp2. Perhaps in a year we may see some of those hit verizon or others with 7 already installed on them. Speculation is killing me as I want to wait it out, but don't know how long I can last. I use my phone pretty heavily for business purposes. Given htc's track record, when would you predict an hd2+kb would be out?
EDIT: I posted the above before I saw denco's bit. Any word as to when it should be in stores? In the past I haven't been all that impressed with android, but maybe 2.0 will turn a new leaf for me.

Some advice please.

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble deciding what phone I should get.
I really like the HD2 as far as having the huge screen and it's definitely a big plus, however Windows Mobile and it's upcoming demise is a turn off. Now I know that there are people working on porting Android to the HD2, and that's something I'm really looking forward to.
The obvious alternative would be the EVO 4G, but as I'm from England, I'm never going to get one that works over here.
The other possible alternatives in my eyes are either take a hit on screen size and go for the Desire, or wait for the Droid X. My gripe with the Droid X is that Motorola is a huge turn off for me, I've had a LOT of bad experiences with Motorola products, and I just don't trust the company.
As I'm guessing some of you can tell by now, I pretty much want a HTC phone, as I'm not so keen on any other manufacturers apart from Nokia (who don't have the kind of phone I would like anyway)
So with all this said, would you either...
A) Get a HD2, use some of the amazing custom WM roms on here and wait until a fully working and full speed Android port is available?
B) Go for the Desire and take a hit on screen size, but gain all the advantages of Android?
OR
C) Wait for a while and see if something good appears around Christmas this year and make my purchase then?
Hope I haven't left anything out, budget doesn't come into it so much as I just want some ideas.
Thanks in advance.
If you are not in a rush and can wait till December wait!
If you hardly need it now go for leo definitely!
Yeah, it all depends on how long I can stand using this stupid Samsung Jet, without throwing it in the bin.
The thing with technology is that no matter how long you wait, a few months after that there'd probably be a better spec phone. So buy one when you need one. =)

Yeah, I realize that, I was more just intrigued as to whether there might be another big screen HTC phone on the horizon.

Ooh, I'm VERY interested in that! Thanks for the link, any news on release date?

Until 12AM tonight to decide PLEASE ADVISE

I have until 12AM tonight to decide if I accept a 7 Pro / HTC Arrive for £120.
The offer is tempting however having researched WM7 I just don't know if I should wait and get a cheap TP2 with 6.5 instead.
It seems everything I loved about WM6.5 is gone in WM7 which appears to be more like an iOS interface and locked out of many apps. I know there is some improvement in Mango but this just seems to be more of an enhancement over the original canvas.
Currently using a TP1 but the keys have worn out.
Any contributions would be appreciated.

What do you use your phone for? What would you want to use your phone for?
How much does the apps matter to you? What apps do you 'need'?
Are you into Music subscriptions? Are you into Xbox games?
I don't use an Xbox and am not interested in music subscriptions.
I don't tend to use it for internet much either, mainly calls and texts but I have alot of rare apps relating to hobbies like tone signal generators and other stuff, it seems all of these would be gone.
Is it true that the phone can still not be accessed as a drive and has to go through web software still as this really puts me off the device.

I think in that case 6.5 is mostly a better choice. However the Gen1 phones have gone to a stage full unlock where you could use the root tools to edit registry, custom ROMs, use file explorers, advanced config tool etc - that lets you use your phone to side load apps, more or less as an usb drive too. However, I am not very sure if all your apps can come with you. The kernel is different and I am pretty sure there will be limitations to it.
I am guessing there is no way a stock WM 6.5 install would work on this phone?
It seems a dreadful shame that such a great piece of hardware is essentially going to waste from locked software since the specs of this phone are very nice.
Thanks

i personally have an htc 7 pro which is the arrive. and i can say after 10/11 month of use, its a really good phone. i have all the apps that i need, and WP7 is just the future, and dont look back on wm6.5. or do you still run you PC on a win95??? just look in the future, there are coming all the apps that you need for wp7 in the future, but the new ones arent coming to wm6.5.
and the future for wp7 holds a new system, which is about to come later this year. i mea nthe wp8. and all thing tend that its an update that all users of wp7 get. sooner or later

Not at the moment. The system is pretty much locked down and secured. Even if someone is able to have custom ROMs on most WP7.5 phones, I think they might prefer making custom WP7.5 ROMs. It might be hard to find a ROM chef willing to port a WM6.5 to WP7.5 hardware!

Ok thanks that pretty much settles it then, i just wish it was possible to upgrade the TP2 hardware there seems to be no equivalent other than the expensive Droid phones

Could you not keep your old phone as your toy for hobbies and get a new WP7 phone? You never know you might like it! Plus in a few months or even a year while you continue your hobbies on the old phone, someone might be able to think of having 6.5 on WP7 (to me I will still be surprised if anyone wants to go back!)?
I am saying this with a huge stone on my heart and bitting a few too many bullets but ---
IF you think one of the droid boys can let you use your old hobby apps on those phones, get a droid.
I have the 7 Pro and I have to say it really is a great phone. I wouldnt go back to TP2 or similar anymore.
