Hi,
I'd like to get Splashblog, which I think is the only photoblogger for the smartphone platform working on my Qtek 8300 (Tornado).
The software is designed for WM5 but when I try to connect to the network I get a connection error immediately.
I can only guess that it either results of a localization problem or the AKU2 firmware uses a different way to setup connectivity (don't know if the software has been tested on WM5 AKU2).
So I'd like to ask anyone having a Tornado and the AKU2 firmware, maybe also a non-WWE (i.e. localized firmware) to share his experience with me or maybe trying out now this software and check if he can get connectivity.
I'd really like to use my Smartphone for mobile photoblogging, but it doesn't work out for me currently and no idea why.
Also in case more of you find it doesn't we could approach the manufacturer and ask for a fix (did already, they said it should work).
Btw: of course I have network connection (GPRS and EDGE) and using it with the IE works flawlessly.
Could anyone give me feedback on his findings with a Tornado please ???
Thanks so much!
Regards
ghl10000
P.S.
The same company also offers TypePad, which is not free, but I get same error message for the trial version :-(
Does anyone have one? Is there a original MS rom that supports Internet calling for download. I switched to WM6 just for this reason, but i haven't got any rom to work with this functionality.
I'm using a I-Mate K-Jam, and have tried several different rom's.

The client is there but it isn't provisioned for use. The way I understand it is your Network Provider should provide the customisation to the phone for their SIP service. There is a fair bit on M$'s website about phone provisioning and registry settings for the IP Phone but I don't know anyone who has had any success so far. I think we need to wait until a real WM6 device appears that is already provisioned and then strip it.
There is already a thread on this on the forum:

Yes it is, and it works.

Hi guys, after digging through the entire WM6 forum, and testing some ROM's for myself, I found a common problom among all of the WM6 ROM's
There are some issues with the dataconnections via UMTS/GPRS. Let me explain.
Let say I have an open GPRS (or UMTS) connection and am browsing some websites. I lose my connection in a tunnel so I wait. When I come out, the dataconnection is useless, and has to reconnect. Thats the part where I it all goes bad The icon will say that there is no connection anymore, but when going to the connectionmanager and modifying the connection will report that the connection is in fact in use!
To my knowledge, there is no immidate fix for this, and ive seen a lot of posts about this issue.
What makes it even more cranky is that it can also occur when the radio switches from UMTS to GRPS when connected.
The commmanger is sometimes able to correct is by restarting the phone, but many times it is forcing me to soft-reset
How did you get to all this you may ask? Well I live in a small village in Holland, and what makes it a pain for WM6 for me is that my hometown is on the border of a GPRS/UMTS zone (IN the town, GPRS - 500 meters out, UMTS) Plus the fact that when going to school, I pass through a tunnel going under water thus canceling all connections
As I said, the error comes op when roaming, or getting disconnected.
Is there anyone that can shed some more light on to this issue? (Or in the best possible case even fix it? )
Edit:
WM5 does not suffer from this.
This is actually a well documented problem amongst some Radio ROMs with WM6. Each person will tell you a different favourite Radio ROM and the only real way to find one that works for you is to test them.
My personal favourite out of quite a few that I've tested is 1.13, locality UK. Works fine for me, boosted signal performance and reconnection for data is fine for my needs, but then I don't use Push eMail or anything that requires permanent connection so I might not be the best judge for that kind of stability.
1.15 has just been released and a lot of people are saying it's the best, haven't tried it myself yet.
There is a thread titled "which radio rom works best where you are?", contains a lot of post stating which is their favourite Radio in their particular location, should help you along the way. Sorry, would give you a link, but feeling lazy
Hope it helps.

I tried the radio 1.15. Like many have said most radios are country compatible. With me the best is 1.09 and i moved to it.
Also radios are interlinked with your network providers, th4 some work better and some dont. Thats my experience.
Tried them all !!
I've posted in just about every thread and must have bored everyone with my postings on this subject, I simply can't find a combination that works reliably under WM6 - none of the Radio versions seem able to cope.
It is interesting that this has not been addressed yet, it is a fundamental issue to using the XDA as a business communication tool.
It would be good if one (or more) of the excellent XDA Developers could try & solve this before delivering any more builds that tweak minor settings & deliver questionable value to a limited audience (I hope this doesn't sound like a whinge, it is not, I like the work done here & enjoy the new feaures).
Well done for setting this up as a dedicated thread.
While I was on aku 3.2 Jwright it was smooth as sailing with radio 1.09. After moving onto wm6 there is a feeling of disatisfaction.
few hangups, communication is not very smooth, missed calls occasionally and sluggish. This is being faced very regularly.
Well!. hope to see a good solution soon.

Ive been through every radio ROM from 1.09.00 and up. The one I found working best for me is 1.15.00 but the issue isnt resolved. It will still happen To see if the radio is actualy better than others I flashed the stock WM5 ROM to my 9000 again to see if it will occur there as well, but no sigar. WM5 is having no problems.
It happens stricktly on WM6 ROM (any version, and any radio) :'(
push mail best option
Hello
So which ROM is the best option for a working push mail?
From the above comments I guess a WM5 - which brings another question : which one is the faster/most stable, at least to compare with WM6 ?
From what I've read, Jwrigh 3.2 seems to be better than Helmi 3.5
A side questions: can anyone do manual activesync to mail2web with SSL enabled?
Thanks

My personal opinion goes to the Qtek factory ROM. It is pretty much vanilla and has decent speed and good reliability. The ROM works good with almost any radio version (1.15.00 is very nice)
As for WM6, many people have it running great, but I am having problems with radio stability.
Tested today again with radio 1.15.00 and the JWright 2.02.00 WWE Crossbow, and no luck. All morning was great, no hickups. And going home this afternoon the whole thing jams up. A little baloon stating that dailing failed or something of that matter. When I restarted the phone via Commmanager, it went working again but switching from UMTS to GPRS locked it up showing the baloon constantly
AFAIK, the developers are aware of this issue. Jwright did a few enhancements on 1.13 with the release of 2.02, it was better, but unfortunately still left a few glitches... Have faith though, I know these guys only do it as a little hobby, but they do come up with some incredible results 99% of the time
Honnestly - the work being done is truely amazing. I should know - I did maintain my own rom for the Sharp Zaurus 6000 so I can tell you how tough it is to fix small bugs - I remember spending weeks to find a workaround for a keyboard issue which was due to hardcoded stuff in Qtopia libraries (what a shame). I had to resort to kernel hacking to change the keycodes, then do the same for the console and Qtopia, etc.
I was contemplating to work on Linux for the Universal, but it is such a great device right now with WM6 that I don't want to spend time on that. I couldn't do much better with free software at the moment (except add more stability and run GAIM which can work behind http-proxy - I need that for my flat rate wap !). Push mail is a killing function.
Anyway, now that the network connectivity issue seems to be pinpointed to the OS (instead of the radio rom) maybe something will be possible ? On GNU/Linux, I would add a script to cron, to try to ping some IP, resolve a FQDN - whatever, and if the connection fail issue a stop/start to the ppp daemon. If this fails too, do the same to the GSM. It shouldn't be very hard to code on WM.
I really enjoy the Universal - good form factor, almost complete (I would just add GPS and more RAM). It is really useful to me in my "off-line" life.
Guylhem
I couldnt agree more on how much great work is done on the Universal (Or any other HTC device for that matter ) And I have great faith in the experts on this forum that a solution will be found
i have tried Jwrights WM6 ROm with 1.13 and 1.15 Radio, the GPRS never connrcts in Egypt. i then tried Darkforces ROM with 1.13 and 1.15 Radio again the GPRS never connects in Egypt.
i then tried Jwrights Rom with Radio 1.09 and the GPRS works 100%. i think there are some issues with WM6 and 1.13 and 1.15 Radio Roms.
does anyone have any other thoughts?
Ill give 1.09 another try over here in the Netherlands te see if there are any minor differences I can spot (Currently using 1.15.00)
Hmmm,
I've got two places were I go on the internet using gprs/umts. And it gives two different results. But when you look at the coverage it can't be a coincidence. Beause at home i lose my signal when it switches between gprs and umts which it does all the time. And at that adres the coverage for just umts is not that good but that for gprs is. really annoying.
But at that other place i have a superb connection with a great signal. and that coincides with the coverage.
So it means that what is important is how a certain rom handles the changes between umts and gprs. Which is already known now is the question who makes sure that the change between umts and gprs goes smoothly??

I'm also in the Netherlands (Arnhem-Utrecht) and I've tried lots of radio roms.
In my view it's true that wm5 works with different roms then WM6.
I've tried 1.12 (fixed) 1.15 and 1.09 with WM6
1.09 is in my view the best, 1.12 and 1.15 both had problems with the BT and the device hanging when soft-resetting.
I'm going to try 1.14.10 1.13 and 1.10 also to see which off those works best.
I wasnt able to work with Nicetrack and found that the link to their site is dead.
Is there any other software that works similarly to nicetrack on WM6.
Im on nfrazz62a ROM.with Radio ROM 02.47.11
maybe you can fill us in on exactly what nicetrack does, because this is the first time ive seen or heard of it and maybe for others as well.
Hi mdajunkie,
Its a software which gives us the information about the signal strength in dBm.
well I know you asked for something similar and the only thing that I could think of that has something similar or close to what you might need is batterystatus. That gives you a percentage on how strong your signal is, also does a few other very useful tricks. I wish I could leave you with a link or something to download and try but unfortunately im not at home, otherwise I post it for you. hate to say it but use the search for batterystatus or hopefully someone else has some better input than I could give.
Here is batterystatus
Hi Binder
Thanks for the link.....
And thankyou mdajunkie for the info...
I will try this out and will post back.
Emm,
Nothin upto Nice track.
That was really perfect !
You can download nice track still
I downloaded nice track 8/14 here. I agree that nothing matched nicetrack for maintaining a database of signal strength, cell towers, and even locations when it is hooked up with GPS. However, I have met nothing but failure in trying to get it to work on WM6 - It needs to know the COM port for GSM, and none of the available ones work - either no signal, or it locks the application. Because I really need it in the current cell-strength purgatory I find myself, I might be going back to WM5 if I can't bumble my way through it.
The author released the source code (waaaay beyond my skills) at the same website.
PLEASE let me know if anyone gets it working on WM6. I am currently running Jaguar2 on a wizard.
THANKS.
Please, could anyone send me a copy of the Nicetrack 1.6 sources (binaries would be fine too but I need the source) ?The website is down...
At the moment the site is up to work
Look http://www.nicecuppa.net/
Anyone has any news? I need of a Nicetrack for HTC Touch Pro. Or exist the similar software ?

YES! it is working on my Qtek S100 with wm2003se !!! very nice m8
BUT i can't get it to work with wm6.1 well, the 2008 versions that site actually *WORK* (you can see the cells already being detected) but it has a small resolution. Versions from 2006 have correct resolution, but don't work at all. I'll try contacting the developer, as i don't have any coding skills whatsoever
PS: i tried the batterystatus today plug-in from previous page, but it reveals to be a huge battery hog (at least for me). the constant refreshing of data probably is to blame.

also, for wm6.1 i now use rk-Location Switch, while nicetrack continues to work flawlessly in wm2003

There is quite obviously an issue with ALL ROMs except the original 5.2.318 with regard to VoIP and the Wizards integrated speakers. I would have thought VoIP was one of the major attractions of WM6 and I can't believe everyone who is using it is using a BT headset permanently. However it seems to me that there is a distinct lack of enthusiasm for getting this working in the newer Wizard ROMs or have I missed something
I need VoIP (& L2TP/IPSec...) to work reliably, I also want a recent ROM for the speed and because it's newer (don't reply with 'just downgrade to 5.2.318...').
Is anyone working on fixing the VoIP & Speaker issues with the latest ROMs? (please)
Andy
after your PM, i'm really listed your issue with others, i have many foundations in VoIP differences between .318 build and others (2 of them we tested them together).
there are two roms comming soon (1437 build and 1908 build), test them and report please to try more.

Do I understand it well that you are working also on the build 1908?
I was a bit dissapointed that you announced using 1437 for future...
Well, I understand that stability is the most important (so far I think that TNT 4 was the best ROM), but I would like to try a higher build from somebody who really tries to fix things...
From what I read I am not very satisfied with 1908 ROMs available (quite a few complains about bugs).

yes, i'm working on both.
i think i will release them at the same day.
1908 build has many of fixes, but it wasn't very compatible with wizard drivers, i'm at the last touches with the drivers.
I think until a post appears with a title like:

Then VoIP is going to be a problem in all ROMs later than the 5.2.318 build. My understanding is there is an issue with the Wizards audio driver and that it doesn't interface with the M$ RIL correctly? correct me if I'm wrong?
Does anyone know how we could modify the driver to work with the latest M$ RIL?
Andy
p.s. can we keep this thread on topic as there are hundreds of others dealing with the latest builds and custom ROMs, I wanted this to open up a discussion regarding why VoIP doesn't work with the Wizards integrated speaker and how we can resolve this.

on the next releasing, i used exactly the same drivers of 318 build (some roms used as files, but this time used as modules), so if something fails because of drivers, it should be fixed.

No, I know how to get VoIP working, the issue is with the latest ROM builds the VoIP audio is not routed to the Wizards integrated speakers (either the Phone speaker or the Stereo speakers).
My understanding is the M$ RIL (Radio Interface Layer) has changed considerably in the latest builds and the HTC Audio Driver has not been updated so does not interface correctly with this RIL. Therefore the drivers from the 5.2.318 build are not going to solve the issue. Correct me if I am wrong here, but this is how I understood the issue?
Andy
That thread covers a plethora of issues. Having read through most of it, I believe this was a problem that may have been addressed earlier, but not solved. I would put out some feelers with Sleuth255 and eluth and see what you come up with and tie your feedback into this thread. I'd be willing to help, it's just that I've lost interest with WM6 since I've been running AKU3.3 on my device and had no hiccups, and I'm also using my device very heavily in my new job.
Still getting nowhere............
I have asked several people on here and there seems to be no resolution to this fundamental issue
I still see everyone including VoIP (or providing a link to an 'add-on') in their builds of ROM's based on 5.2.1437 or later, yet it doesn't work
If anyone has any updates to this then please post them.

I can and have cooked many ROMs. The ROM you posted previously as a test would not work as I said in the thread. I did not want to waste time extracting this as the VoIP components you posted to test with I have already tested and they don't work. If you have some alternatives then please let me know.
I currently have a kitchen that I have modified based around WhiteRat's 5.2.1437 Base. I have VoIP integrated into this, however with all ROM's created from this the fundamental issue remains - no sound from the onboard speakers when using VoIP I assume there are no differences between your 5.2.1437 Base and WhiteRat's since you both have rebased drivers based on the original 5.2.318 ROM.

ok, we will play with SYS folder, you have to get 318 full kitchen (which work with you), then we will start with replacing some packages on the SYS folder, the most important Phone folders, then shell folder, then OS folder, and after every change test it if it worked or not.
