I don't know what I have done to my poor Wizard, but all of a sudden it has stopped doing the type ahead for contacts from the SMS message header.
Has anyone else had this happen and if so what fixes this as it is really annoying.
Hoping I don't have to reinstall as I haven't backed up for a while.
*glum*
I'm assuming you mean when you start typing a name, after about 2 letters, the entire name will pop-up.
If that's the case, check: Settings>Input>Word Completion. Make sure "Suggest words when entering text" is checked.
I'm having the same problem, did you get it fixed. I get the predictive text when actually typing a message but no when entering the "To:" field contact name??
Fixed
This wont help anyone at all but the type ahead seems to have "fixed itself"
I have my email on the sd card which then got ejected at some point confusing the device and recreating a folder called Storage Card (the actual card got renamed Sotrage Card 2), I then took the card out again, deleted the folder which had appeared as Storage Card and put it all back together.
The type ahead for addressees then started to work again (faster than it was earlier)

Click to collapse
That was all enabled and didn't make any impact on the address type ahead.

I have been having problems with my XDA II for some time, although it used to be relatively trouble-free and give or take a few idiosynchracies has worked properly since unlocking. I don't know if these problems are related or not so I will put them all in one message:
These are the problems:
1) Putting my Spanish SIM card in activates a hard reset 9 times out of 10 (it was fine putting the same card into my son's XDA). Once it did it putting my English SIM back in, but this is usually Ok.
2) Inbox stopped opening -when I click on 'unread messages' it just flickers. It won't open from 'Programs' or from 'New Message' either, nor by opting to send a message from a particular contact.
3) After a hard reset (involuntary) Inbox would open again until I restored my settings, whereupon it wouldn't, so it looks as though it is a dodgy setting.
4) After restoring contacts & appointments only (not settings) Inbox will open but it won't send texts. It sends the text to an ActiveSync folder instead (can't remember which one).
5) Since the above, there is now a new Folder appeared in SMS, entitled 'IPM.Root'. Weird.
6) Whenever I do a soft reset the volume box comes up and it makes a wild beep! beep! beep! beep! beep! beep! until I turn it off and on again.
7) The volume goes off by itself without me touching it: I virtually never hear my phone as volume has gone off again
8)Then there are the synchronisation problems. It often tells me it doesn't recognise my device and I have to set up a new partnership. This is laborious as I have two computers and then have to do it on the other as well...
Somehow I feel that I need a reset that's harder than hard - or do I need a new device?
Will someone help and advise me please!
Ok, I know I gotta PM mods here but I thought I'd make another topic about it since there might be more ppl out there knowing how to fix my problem. Feel free to delete it, or tell me to remove the topic and I'll pm any of you one by one, as you desire.
My Windows Mobile went crazy. Its a known bug but I just can't seem to fix it.
Already made another topic about it, since it occurs to a lot of ppl using the HTC Touch Diamond, but it might be a common Windows error, and not just to ppl using the listed device.
The symptoms:
- Access is denied error message when trying to copy files to the phone using ActiveSync.
- Access is denied error message when trying to delete any files or copy files between folders and/or the storage card on the phone.
- You do not have permission to download that type of file in Internet Explorer when trying to download any files.
- No programs show up in Remove Programs.
- Installation Unsuccessful error messages when trying to install any applications.
- ActiveSync will fail with an error message that you should start the troubleshooter.
And the solution:
Code:
- Please follow the exact steps listed below.
- Soft Reset is done with the stylus, if you press it in the little round hole that is next to the USB port of HTC touch (the other oval hole at the other side of the USB port is the microphone. Do not stick your stylus in that hole)
- Power off is done when you keep the power button (on the top) pressed and you see a message from windows, asking if you want to power off your device.
The procedure to fix and recover from this amazing bug.
1) soft reset device
2) Start / Office Mobile / Word
3) Create a new document (click on New)
4) type some text (just plain text - no formatting - it was 'plain text document') just a few characters
5) File / Save As...
6) I have selected type 'Plain Text'
7) It asked me whether I want to save it at 'Word document instead' - I clicked No.
8) I have powered off the device and did soft reset
9) Start file explorer, find the file (it was in My Device / My Documents), click on it - it opens Word again.
10) Add some formatting (I have selected part of text and changed font to bold)
11) Close Word - it asked whether to save it in Word format - this time I said Yes
12) Power-off the device and press soft reset again
Now you can find this anywhere on the map, with a lil bit of google skills, however .. its just not working for me. I did the exact things listed, and even changed some small parts of it during the 10 times I tried. And yet my problems aren't solved. I'm wondering, quite desperately, if theres anyone out there that might actual know what could have caused it or fixes it. I'm sooo not looking into a format/reinstall.
Thanks in advance
is active sync giving you an error code (a number)
Thank you for your fast response. Sync isn't giving an error code or number. Baiscally what the error messages tells me is, free translated:
"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync help on your desktop computer"
but in Dutch. All it leaves me to do is press OK and start a sync checkup, which doesn't find anything but the usual Outlook "problem" (I don't have it installed, nor do I wan't to sync email with it).
joel got an idea ?
Waited half a day, plox joel, if you got any idea help me out. I'm afraid I gotta hard-reset, but I wanna avoid it. Any help is welcome ...
No clue?
I'd like to bump this once more, since theres been some interest in it but now it's just forgotten
honestly, the best way to solve these types of problems is a hard reset.
the time you spend in here / searching in google / trying stuff is much longer than what you'd spend hard reseting and installing stuff.
i also suggest you get a system backup app so you won't have to reinstall and copy and sync every time you need to hard reset.
I know thats the easy solution, and I will hard reset my device, but only ONCE I got my photos contacts and texts off it. Especially the photo's are quite important to me.
so heres my issue dopey me set a lock pattern coz the ex was coming over. Of course I set it in a hurry not once but twice (the confirmation screen). Now its stuck saying too many attempts...
I did manage to highjack the menu while it restarted with the USB tether in place. Now its not letting me even do that anymore. Looks like my only recourse is a hard reset.
Before i do that, is there ANY way I can back up my text messages. (i have legal reasons to try to score the data. I am logged into it via adb at the moment...I even tried to root the phone. and highjack root by unmounting and remounting that didn't work I know which two directories i need to edit in. And that G1 forum talks about setting a variable from 1 to 0 that doesnt work because the directory is flagged 0771 and owned by system (yup I captured the init.rc file.
anywho thoughts idears, (break my heart coz i have to flush my phone...)
No back up? That sucks
Sent from my Liquid using XDA App
of the texts?? you can do that ? lol I have lookout.com on there which I am disappointed i does not backup my 200 contacts. but as i said I have everything else off there I even have an SD card I can plug in and copy to...
First off there should be a file somewhere on the phone not sure where ire what the name is right now i will look into it. Sms backup+ or use Google voice sms right into your email account might help ibm the future.
so i rootkitt'ed my phone..... still can't chmod or chown. its sitting over there sadly looking at me locked... defunct saying "reset me!"
I've done that before, but after 5 attempts there was a button in the lower right corner that let me sign in with my google account. Do you not have that option?
software bug apparently its broken.
Hi all,
I am not sure if it is a ROM issues or an Inspire/Desire issue, howeve it seems like words i type that get saved to my dictionary disappear and i end up getting them saved again.
I am not sure as to if its a reboot the wipes the saved words from memory or something or what.
Let me know if anyone has any ideas?
I'm aSo basically what I was trying to do was fix the refresh button on Madden mobile. I had to go into the data/data path and then into the files/cache of the game. I had to find a specific file number and change the "lockout" from 3 to 0, basically that's what fixed the refresh speed. I also had to change the permissions up by unchecking the write box. Unchecking the write box caused my game to say "storage space almost full" when it really wasn't. It let me passed the first error message. I got a second one of the same kind after getting into the game and it forces me to return to the menu with a connection error saying something like "there was a server error". There isn't anything wrong with the servers so. Anyways, unchecking the write box Is the only way I know how to do it. Leaving it unchecked it won't work at all.
Does anyone know how I can bypass this error message?
