Hi,
I bought an XDA II from O2 in the UK a couple of years ago. Until recently it has all been working fine, keeping up with my needs. In April I went to Spain for four months, leaving my PC, PDA etc behind. When I got back the XDA was dead, I charged it up. I the first problem was that the backlight wasn't working. I still managed to boot up Windows and configure it all again. Still no backlight. I tried changing all sorts of settings inside the PDA to no end. After rebooting the PDA it gets stuck on the O2 first screen when the device loads. Now the only way to get into Windows is giving it a hard reboot, but that gets me nowhere.
This morning I went to the O2 website and got the latest ROM upgrade. The whole process went smoothly, but no backlight. After rebooting the device after the install it got stuck on the O2 intro screen.
I had tried using the camara after the first charge, that gave a hardware error message.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I have a Cingular 2125 which I replaced the ROM with the Imate SP5m one which allows for A2DP... I did that about 4 months ago, and everything worked wonderfully for those several months. Then suddenly yesterday, the phone was responding to my input really slowly, so I did a soft reboot as I hadn't restarted it in awhile. When it started back up, it brought me to the bootloader screen (red, green, and blue screen), and I cannot get out of it... rebooted several times, took out the battery, etc... can only get the bootloader screen.
Is there a way to get back to my phone or did this thing just erase itself?
Many thanks!

I finally got out of it. After about 25 or so reboots, it finally decided it wanted to start up normally.
But now, the joystick is screwed up??? Of the five functions, it only responds to three: up, down, and right. Left, and select (kind of important!) don't work anymore.
Has anyone else experienced this as a software/firmware problem, or should I just assume that this is a hardware failure?
Thanks again.

My guess would be hardware failure, although you could try re-flashing it and see what happens.
Thanks. I figured I'd probably have to go that route, but just wanted to see if this happened to anyone else first.
Off I go to re-flash land!
Yep, hardware is f$^&ed. I just re-flashed to the Qtek 8300 AKU2 ROM as I read that it addressed some joystick issues. Re-flash was successful, but no change in the behavior of the joystick.
Oh well, I was looking for an excuse to get a Tytn anyway.
Hi guys,
Bit of a weird one this... my phone has been working perfectly normal for some 9 months now, but all of a sudden it has decided to play up when turning on the phone.
If I turn the phone on with battery power it hangs on the boot screen (which shows the version information) on doesn't get any further. If however, I boot with the USB cable plugged in (hence charging), the phone eventually comes ob after around 5-10 minutes!
I have tried installing a number of different ROMs (Qtek, Dopod etc.) but every ROM gives the same behaviour.
Would I be right in thinking that this is more than likely a hardware problem?
Thanks,
Stig.
if you experience the same behavior with different roms, it sounds like its an hardware problem indeed...
When the phone is on and running, do you have any problem ?
No problem when the phone finally comes on. Its certainly a weird one. I have since got it sorted via the insurance.
I usually use an htc Fuze for my phone, but it broke. So I decided to go back to my treo 750, since I like the keyboard and the battery life. I had this treo before I knew anything about roms, and before I had ever been on xda so it's completely stock. Except for a screen replacement, but it still worked after that.
I hooked it up to the charger, and let it sit. It's been stuck on the orange "Palm" screen for around 6 hours now. I tried hard resetting it, it goes through that but still sticks. I updated the rom from cingular to windows mobile 6.1, or 6, not sure now but it worked after that for a month or two. What could be wrong?
As others have opened the same thread, a lot of people's desire S have hanged and died. Mine included.
2 weeks ago it hanged while I was updating in the market. The screen was dead for like 10 minutes, so I pulled the battery out. Next, it wouldn't turn on pass the HTC screen, and in recovery you couldn't do anything either. Factory reset doesn't work, so i was screwed.
I send it back to HTC, and it was back in 2 days with a new motherboard.
Good, so everything goes well for this week, and 30 minutes ago, the market showed it has new updates. So i clicked update all. Guess what happens.. HANGED AGAIN. Then when I rebooted the phone, it got stuck at HTC white screen AGAIN. No matter how many times you reboot, it will be stuck at that screen.
I was seriously so frustrated I wanted to throw it agaisnt the ball.
I went into recovery mode, at first it gave me all errors. The red triangle with exclamation showed up. I thought, crap, I was going to be without my phone for another week again.
Finally after trying recovery n rebooting like 20 times.. it worked.. i was in tears when I heard the htc booting sound..
but this is a serious problem. Updating apps is a normal phone function, and it should not do hang. My phone was not even rooted or s-off. When it died I was seriously thinking of shouting at the HTC staff and asking them to give me an incredible or smth.
It's quite frightening how often this has happened now
Did you have fast boot enabled?
although considering that this was very nealy the second time that this happened to you, I'd try to get a replacement device (another ds) and not a fixed one
Good luck

Hey guys...
Kinda ultimate noob here, so I'll start from the beginning because I don't know what information could be pertinent. I don't really know much lingo at all, but I have a completely stock, unrooted HTC Inspire 4G from AT&T that my cousin gave me a few months ago. On and off since then, I've had a few random restarts and crashes, no big deal, always came back up. The other day, about a week ago, the headphone icon started blinking and my sound stopped working, so I restarted the phone and it got stuck on the ATT boot screen, so I took out the battery, let it sit, and when I put it back together, everything was fine. Last night, I was in a meeting and my phone battery was at 2%, so I turned it off so avoid it dying. I got home and plugged it in, and when I went to turn it on, it would not load past the ATT boot screen. I let it sit overnight, and a couple hours ago I tried a factory reset, and tried to boot up again, and it got stuck in what I believe is called a boot cycle, where it would go from the HTC startup screen to the ATT screen, go black, then repeat over and over. I did some research, and tried to use an RUU to set everything back to complete stock, but both of the ones I tried gave me the "Please get the correct RUU and try again" error. I have the 1.03.2011 RUU up right now, and it says that my image version is 3.20.502.52, and gives me that same error. I don't know if I completely effed it up or what, so any possible help would be greatly appreciated. I've been looking through guides and trying things for over 12 hours, but I can't get anything to work, so it would be best to start from the beginning. I tried to get everything I know about the problem in there, but if more information is needed, just let me know and I'll do my best to get it for you. I've heard great things about XDA and did most of my research here, so I'm hoping you can work some of your magic on my phone
