I have one XDA and one XDA-II. If I set up two different partnerships, how does the PC recognise which partnership belongs to which XDA. Also, do I have to set up a new partnership each time.
Thank you.
Gill Bhai,
U can set as many patnerships...only thing u have to have a unique name for each of yr PDAs..
Does each XDA recognise its partnership automatically?
The PPC doesn't have to do anything except provide a device name- Active Sync then sorts out which device is connected and synchronizes accordingly.

I believe you can't have 2 devices connected and syncronized at the same time so what you would have to do is go to connection settings and remove the option to sync contacts. Instead I would reccomend PIM Backup which backs up your contacts to your storage card and you dont have to worry about your contacts getting mixed up with your wifes.
I guess you just have to have 2 separate XP sessions.
i have my wizard and my girlfriends hx2495 connected to the same computer. i just set up two different users that utilize different outlook profiles.

That sounds like a good idea, fortunately I only have one device to sync and don't have to worry about that. But once I get my new phone and give the wife this one then we might have a problem.
I have an Orbit and an Orbit 2. I figured it would let me sync one device's contacts, tasks, emails etc.. over bluetooth but how? Failing that, how the hell do I get contacts from one phone to the other?! It shouldn't be this hard (or me this stupid!)
sync with outlook or go to contacts and tabHold on a contact and pick Send contact->beam

Not an ideal solution for most people though? As it happens I do have access to a decent Outlook setup at work. I've also tried the one at home using the demo that came with the unit. The problem is that I don't want to maintain the sync (especially at work), but Windows Mobile bizarrely insists on deleting all the contacts from the phone again when I delete the sync relationship.

Yeah, that kinda works with tasks because I can select them all at once. However 100+ contacts done one-at-a-time isn't my idea of fun. I can't believe this is so impossible to do device-to-device. Failing that just a way of getting them onto my PC and then sending them back to my new device without having to set up an ongoing sync relationship. I only want to do this one time, to get all the contacts from one device to the other!
I'm not sure what the problem is here.
It seems to me that you would use ActiveSync to set up a relationship with the computer and Phone A (the one with the data already), initially copying all the information from the device to the computer. You would then have the info all in Outlook on the computer.
Then set up a relationship with Phone B and copy the info from the computer to the device. Then delete ActiveSync from the computer and beam further changes individually as required.
Which part of this doesn't work?

Got to this link: http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
You can download a 15 day trial of their software. Their software has a phonebook option which allows you to send the entire contacts list via bluetooth to linked devices.

Deleting the sync relationship seems to insist on the data that the relationship created being purged. So I had a situation where the data was on my new phone but once the sync relationship was removed, WM insisted on removing all the contacts that had been created using that sync too - which is absolutely braindead. At the minute I'm in a scenario where I've lost all the contacts from *both* phones, *and* Outlook and I'm very upset! Currently trying to recover from deleted items in Exchange...
Sorted, sort of
OK, I recovered my contacts from the Exchange server after an hour of being rather annoyed... And thanks to a plug in which allows multiple contacts to be selected and beamed to another device (http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-ppccontactsmgr-v1-6.html), I managed to get them sent to the new device. I just can't believe a modern WM device isn't capable of sending all contacts from one device to another out-of-the-box. Surely it shouldn't require an PC with an installation of Outlook to achieve what ought to be a reasonably trivial task when moving to a new device?
I hate to say it but you did buy a wm device! I have just reinstalled XP as Vista was ****! XP will soon be redundant and as far as I am concerned so will windows. We all bought into that company.....I agree entirely without outlook we are stuck. It is the one peice of software I buy happily, the rest are being ditched as they run to the end of there technological hold.

I wrote a post few days ago about my impressions with HTC Cruise and Windows. Overall I have no complains, but your "adventure" is the essence of that post. Good hardware, OS with potential, put them together and overall good, but not super.
These are simple things Microsoft should have gotten right from the beginning. Rather than building a system with a "start menu", trying to immitate Desktop Windows, Microsoft should have been brave enough to build an appropriate PDA + Phone OS...
I am not a big fun of overloading the mobile with eye-candy applications, but for example SPB did a nice job with their mobile shell series, big accessible icons, easy access to common functions, configurable and so on. Why Microsoft fails to get it straight is quite disappointing.
Anyway, I am glad you sorted this out, I am downloading that plugin as well, I am sure it will be handy at some point! (Thanks for finding this!)
HI
My work has ban ActiveSync, but I should get around it by using a different program.
I need a different sync program to use at work for my Outlook pleasee.
What the best one out there
Thanks
Banned where I work too.
My employer has standardised on Blackberry when they are paying. If you get your own device you can't plug it in.

Do you have an exchange server? If so, check out www.emoze.com
Super easy set up, free and it works well. I have not had any problems other than not being able to sync tasks.
Thanks I will give that a try
Unfortunately, most of the 'other programs' for desktop sync that I've tried require activesync to be installed first. Intellisync and GW PDA Connect both use the activesync connection to the phone as just a pipe to the phone, as neither of them can open a connection to the phone directly.
Hello friends .
Can somebody please clarify how to do this :
I have about more than 1100 contacts on my Sony Ericsson P1i phone and many of them has a second or third Mobile Phones under same contact.
When I transfer these to HTC Touch Pro (or any WM device) only 1 of the Mobile phones is transferred.
The same thing applies to other fields too , if the person has 3 home numbers only 1 or 2 of them get stored under outlook.
Can you please explain if there is a work around for this . Or maybe any 3rd party software ?
Thanks
YG
How are you transferring them? Are you using Outlook or some other method?
Well since I have around 1100 contacts , I guess it would be difficult to tranfer them 1 by 1 by bluetooth.
However, even if I did that , The 2nd and 3rd mobile phones get lost during transfer.
I'm guessing that the best way would be that I transfer all contacts from P1i to PC by using SE P1i's syncronising tool PC SUITE to Microsoft Outlook.
I did that already but all of the second mobile phones were already lost.... I thought of correcting them on Outlook but I could not find a way to rename fields on Outlook.
I'm OK with Outlook, or I also OK with another 3rd party software .
Any ideas please ?
Hi,
I've the same thing. You need to use "Float Mobile agent":
http://fma.sourceforge.net/
Sync it with your SonyEricsson phone to have all the contacts in the computer. Then export the contacts from the float interface into outlook and sync Touch Pro with ActiveSync.
You should now have all these contacts in your touch pro

Wow ,,,,,, My mouth is already watering I can't wait to test it )))
EDIT : I downloaded the program ans installed it. However when I connect the Sony Ericsson P1, it's reading my contacts 1 person per telephone number.
This means If I have for example Michael A . It creates 3 entries for Michael A if he has 3 phones. it should be 1 only, I have also signed in the forum but each forum is protected by Password, so I can't view Outlook SYNC problems forum. How do I write my contacts to Outlook ?
I had that problem previously. Which is why I have more than one listing for people who have more than one cellphone. E.g. John Smith-Globe and John Smith-Smart.
It was the only way I can easily transfer my contacts between phones without any problems. So I've been doing that for as long as I can remember.
You can't have more than 1 mobile number per contact with WM so you will have to change the name of your contacts that have more than one number otherwise you will lose them.
It sucks but it is the only way and I do not think any software will do this for you.
Cheers
Can't Microsoft imagine that a person might have 2 more more cell phones ??
How stupid is that ???

Hi again,
The password is "fma". It isn't secret, it is just top stop the spammers.
Ask your questions there, they are sure to help.

Thanks for the reply
However this FMA only allows me to have 1 telephone number for each contact. No matter if work phone or mobile phone, so I have multiple entries if my contact has multiple numbers. I can not see all numbers under same contact.
What do I have to do ? Is yours like this as well ?
do you have the latest outlook ? (2007? or something?) I had no problems converting p990i>TP with newest pc suite, outlook 2007 and activesync...
I'm sure you have errors in your vontacts that you have not noticed yet.
See your contacts and see if any of your contacts have 2 or more mobile phone numbers stored.
Or maybe by chance all your contacts have only one mobile phone
Now I'm almost sure it's impossible to do , I wish somebody could prove me wrong...
If I might just add, there is one other way you transfer your contacts from your P1 to your windows mobile device. Setup yourself a Mail2Web Account up, and then grab activesync software for your phone. Then synchronize your contacts with the online exchange and then you have a handy backup of all 1100 contacts. I personally would hate to lose them, this just gives you the extra assurance. I'm not certain if the P1 has, but it takes the hassle out of migrating. This method can also be used when upgrading your ROM.

Problem is the way contacts r stored in WM......no matter, which evr method, u use to sync or transfer contacts, bt WM will nt store more than 1 Mobile number per contact....
i recently shifted frm P990i to Touch Pro n faced same prob.....got 1158 contacts wth at least 400 of thm wth double mobile no.s ....
chk out following link for more info -

P.S. - I also wish sumone cud prove both u n me wrong or Microsoft wakes up n realizes tht people can n do have more than 1 Mobile connections
Hi,
we have two windows mobile devices and want to synchronize some kind of data (ie. meetings and tasks).
How is it possible without PC?
You might set-up both of them to sync with a Google account (works for calendar and contacts): http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/topic.py?topic=15305
But, that should really be in the Q&A section... You have a better chance to get an answer there.
Thanks, it seems fine to me, but maybe there is a direct method...?
Not as far as i know.
Because both WinMo devices are Clients and none of them plays the Server!
Use the hint above are do with another Server / Service.
I for example use live.mail2web.com.
Free of charge and very "Push" via Active Sync.
