Over Heat

Hi friends,
Here i have one problem.....
I purchased HTC diamond 1 week ago, i'm facing here one problem, my phone was getting hot and hot. For just 5 to 10 min playing of video or audio or running any application my phone was getting hot, i feel like my hand was burning why so, is there any solution for it........?
HI
Is it CDMA or GSM diamond?
Becuase I face the same problem in CDMA Diamond
HI
Is it CDMA or GSM diamond?
Becuase I face the same problem in CDMA Diamond
I have the same prob, i have GSM EU version quadband.
This is a known issue with all diamonds. From what I know, there is no solution.
It's the processor which gets hot, playing music, watching video, surfing the net. Unless you get heat related problems, it's not really a problem.
Remember fellass:
Theres a bunch of stuff going under the hood and in a very very small space(we all know the Diamond is the smallest device around) It is a pretty big processor and a VGA res (double to most phone on the market now a days) plus the stuff we are running now a days is very demanding, accompanied by the multitasking we take for granted.
So heat is the natural opposed effect to all the computing that goes on in that small space. (ever walked in a server room, its hooottt.)
PS:is this the correct section for this question?
You forgot the battery Lol..
Regards,
Carty..
Hi, I got the same message but worth than yours. Whenever it's hot, its screen even though can not be aligned, means it shifts to left or right. I am still seeking help on this forum.
p.s.: any solution for this matter, please let me know. Thanks.
The heat for me has dissipated since my search for a balanced ROM and Radio. I use the word balance to illustrate that not all Roms/Radio's behave equally as far as performance is concern and the same goes when it comes to heat.
Generally yes, Diamonds will get a bit warm but no where near as warm as mine used to get when I first got it. I've flashed quite a bit to get to where I am.
Now, at best, it just get's a little warm.

This phone is starting to become a pain....

I was excited when I got this phone, everything was going cool and all that....
The battery is the worst thing I have ever seen. I've tried all the radios, got all the power tweaks applied, I get down to 75% battery on EDGE, only texting in less than 5 hours. WTF is this? Is this a joke? It's not even funny! And not to mention the unreliabilty of the phone. I plan to send an email to HTC and ATT to see if I can work out anything. Never buying a phone from HTC again.
I think it's your rom. I get through a full day on H no problem. Which roms have you tried?
Also it could be radio and what most likely is the signal strength. As weaker the signal, as more power required to compensate.
WAAAAHHHH! Don't buy a smart phone then.
I get a full days use. About 2 hours of music playing, signed into an IM client and do some msg and talking and still have 75% at the end of the day.
My guess that its your rom, but i am betting you didn't change the setting in HTC's task manager.
Go to Settings > system > Task manager and change the close action button actually close the buttom. The default action for WM task manager and HTC task manager is to minimize or hide the apps.
So let's say i open WMPlayer, Google Maps, Contacts, Text, Microsoft word. I hit the X, but if i don't change that setting, when i press the X, those programs are still running consuming battery and memory.
Try making sure no unneeded tasks are running and update your radio to 1.14.25.05, and Da_G's 6.5 rom and lets see how ya do next week.

Yo PwnCakes193..
I feel yur agony.. I used to experience shi tty battery life too.. My raphael can only sustained for like 5 hours.. without battery draining applications like music player even running..
However, Things took a turn when i flashed my raphael to the following rom and radio:
ROM Version: ROMeOS v1.95.4 WWE
Radio: 1.12.25.19 (With matching rilphone version)
It is so much better now !! I have calls and sms coming in while Garmin GPS is running for like an hour with battery dropping only 15% from 100% to 75%... !! And i **** u not.. And by the way.. my raphael's been with me for like 5 months now.. I'm loving it more each day..
Good luck and hav fun!
Too advanced for you?

Well go buy an iPhone and stop cluttering our forum. They are made for the mainstream trendy techno gadget people who cant solve their own problems, but still want to look cool and smart in public when they pull out their phone. Neither ATT or HTC is going to change their whole hardware because of your e-mail.
Do you even realize what youre saying? Do you listen to yourself when you talk? First off, anyone that knows how to use their phone, and sets up the correct ROM/RIL/Radio combination gets a full day charge off of it, sometimes even a couple days. Second, do you realize that is a small PC in your pocket, and youre complaining about battery life?? Have you ever used a laptop? You know that brand new laptops only get 2-3 hours of battery life right?
Really, go get a regular phone, HTC phones are not made for everyone, and apparently this one is too complicated for you.
I echo what's been said in above posts and would add as a suggestion only to try the new htc rom with the 1.14.xx radio both are the latest from htc. Boring I know, but very stable. Don't throw your device away without trying it. The custom roms can be frustrating as they can be unstable at times, but very fun to tweak and experiment with.It sounds like yourmore a user who wants stability over the rest. Go to htc site and search for latest rom, try that 1.14 radio and report back.
I use a 1800 mAh battery in my pro and I always charge everynight. Not a big deal. I also have prolly less than the 75% you reported at the same time, another not a big deal. "it is what it is" You can adapt or you can get a diff phone. I have an LG dumb phone my work supplies me for calls only, that battery lasts 2 weeks . LOL!!
wow, harsh words.
It's not like this complaint is an isolated one. There are other forums out there(AT&T, and Howard) that have the same observations about battery life. To say that it is a portable pc and that someone should be happy with 6-8 hours of battery life is pretty silly too. It is a smartphone, like the blackberry, like the treo, like the blackberry. And when people complained about the battery life of the Iphone, it's not like everyone said, deal with it. Apple released another firmware to try and remedy this. Blackberrys seem to go for a couple if not more days without charging with 3G, push email etc running, so why would this not be expected from the Fuze?
I own both the Tilt and the Fuze and find I can squeeze out about 3 days with push email, a bluetooth headset, about an hour or two a day of listening to music through the headset and 3G enabled. The Fuze is supposed to be the successor of the tilt, so wouldn't it be logical to think i should be able to do the same with this product? I have flashed several different roms and radios(with the rilphone.dll) and right now cannot get past 8 hours of usage on it. I thought it was the radio but I have tested it without a sim in it and get the same results. So either the battery is faulty, or it just stinks.
I am going through troubleshooting it right now, and based on some helpful hints on other forums, am trying to discharge the battery fully in hopes that it resets the battery guage.
I think helpful posts, like those that say try a new radio/rom are good ways to respond. Saying "go get an Iphone" or "this is a ppc, deal with the battery" are not helpful to people who search the forums for solutions.
Just my 2(maybe a lot more) cents

Really? Listen a**hole, I know what I'm dealing with. I'm running the 21210 build of 6.5 that I cooked in Da_G's Kitchen with the .20M1 radio AND RIL. Yes, I know i'm being picky, but a phone should last at least a little while, no matter what. I get a full day charge, but just texting and no calling, on EDGE, I should easily be down to 85% in 24 hours. I know it's a small PC, but that is no excuse. I am a mainstream tech savvy person, and I mod/hack everything I own, use everything to it's full potential. I don't want an iPhone because its an overhyped and, in my opinion, horrible phone. I was never trying to look cool when I bought this phone. I even helped a few members out here when they bricked their phones, and I taught a few how to cook ROMs!
Next time think before you post, you troll.

I have tried almost all the ROMs, my favorite being At0mAng's, but he's gone now . I'm cooking my own 6.5 ROMs now
The Fuze is supposed to be the successor of the Tilt? I guess according to the order that ATT purchased their HTC phones, but probably not according to HTC...
The HTC Touch Pro is the successor of the Diamond. Just because ATT replaced the Tilt with the Fuze does not mean its the successor. Tmobile is calling the TP2 the "Wing 2" in America, does that mean it's the successor to the wing?? NO. If anything most hardcore HTC follower will agree the TP2 is the successor to the Tilt (kinda obvious isn't it?).
Regardless of what order they came in, or what phone its supposed to replace, the Fuze has a bigger processor, twice as much ram, and twice as high resolution LCD. Its hard to compare the 2 on battery life. My Tilt gets a faster GPS lock, and the battery lasts way longer, than the Fuze. Does that mean its better? NO.
If you're such a badass 'hacker' then you should obviously understand how much power the hardware in your device uses vs the size of the battery.

If you have an honest question where you need help then please ask, and im sure someone will help you get MUCH better battery life! All i really meant by what i was saying before i got sidetracked, is that if you don't like your HTC products, or it doesn't fit your lifestyle like you thought it would, then take it back, and get something else. Just don't come into a HTC forum, and start badmouthing products, because that will get you nowhere, and you should have been expecting the answer you got.
I'm with leak73 on this one. I think this forum is great, but I do think there are too many people that jump on someone as soon as they say anything negative about this phone.
I bought this phone to make my life easier, to manage work and personal tasks on the same device. I thought this device was the one I had been waiting for.
I am also disappointed with the performance of the Raphael. And I don't think it should be asking too much to expect the device to work properly straight out of the box. Yes, I appreciate that this is a windows mobile device that has massive flexibility and can be customised, but those possibilites should be in addition to a stock device that does the basics properly.
I have had a number of issues with the phone - battery life, dailer issues, poor reception (and I know this can contribute to poor battery life, but why should it be so much worse than other devices I have used in the same areas?).
The members on this forum have helped me out a lot over the past few months (which I am very grateful for) tweaking and trying to get this phone to be what it should have been in the first place. And while I am now enjoying tweaking and customising my phone, I will never criticise anyone who points out the shameful fact that this device is virtually unusable without putting time and effort into sorting it out.

And since when does being a troll have to do with what time you joined? I have yet to troll on this forum, I have either asked questions, or have helped people who are having trouble....

I hear that, I can relate as I've had my s**t jumped a few times on this forum as well and I always learned from it. I'm not an expert at all and thats the reason I come here to learn about my various wm devices, currently the touch pro. I undestand the issues especially with battery and stability.Except for battery I don't have any complaints that you mention. My RF which I value as a number 1 priority is very good. No dialer issues here either. I also think it would be nice to have perfectly operating devices right out of the box and considering what we pay for these things, it seems we should get better. In my experience all the wm devices I've ever had have had inadequate batteries. It's just the way it is. I did not expect my pro to be any diff. in that regard. I got it anyway and bought a better battery. In the past few weeks I've tried various 6.5 roms with differing results and none were very stable. It's the way it is and I don't really expect it to be better, but I love it anyway. I've used symbian s60 nokia devices and thought some of the e series have outstanding stability and battery life. So I have choices.
My choice is to continue learning and I'll get extended batteries when I think I need it. When I get tired of the wm BS I'll go back to E series for awhile.
For anyone who is calling themselves proficient in wm and the various ins and outs of flashing and obviously has some experience apparently, I find it kinda strange that they would be surprised by the battery life. Stability can be had from diff rom combos. But bad battery life is a given with wm. we get used to it and move on or go check out e series. It also rocks! Lotsa choices.
Maybe I am one of the unluck ones that have experienced more than my fair share of problems. I have had more issues than I mentioned in my last post - obviously the GPS problem, keyboard lag (although it seams to be fixed now with tweaking), dodgy call acceptance/ring delay (this seems sorted in the new HTC Rom), active sync issues (not sure if this is the software though) and the general lock up issues.
Don't get me wrong though when this device works it is everything I hoped for, I just wish it worked like that all (or at least most) of the time.

what tweaks did you apply to fix the keyboard lag?
wow, boys, calm down. *****ing at each other is oh so productive. maybe we could try to HELP each other out and be friends! just a thought...
i'm getting maybe 12 hours on a full charge running the leaked att stock rom and it's really starting to tick me off. i bought a portable power pack that can give me a full charge on its full charge (Xpal harry II) but i want to be able to get AT LEAST a full day without having to pop it onto a usb or wall charger for 20 minutes. im thinknig of flashing to da_g's or natf's 6.1 roms witihn the next couple weeks hoping that they'd be able to improve my battery life. i'm pretty happy with the radio and i'm in boston so no major signal issues there. maybe it's just a sh*tty rom draining my battery?
and now that i wasted 10 minutes reading this thread, i'm giong to go back to studying for finals. joy.
EDIT: I installed the fuzeberry theme a week or two ago and that's caused a TF3D problem (see my thread here about this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511760) but is there any chance that THIS is also killing my battery? hate the att manila but i might have to revert back if it gets me more hours :\

****, sorry mate I can't remember now, I changed a setting in the registry and installed a keyboardincrease cab? Maybe others on here will be able to point you in the right direction. I am a noob at this type of stuff really and just follow instructions that members on here suggest - once the problems fixed I forget about it.
nhshah7-
try using a 6.5 ROM I cooked now, it's doing fairly well, i would Hard-SPL, then try and flash a new radio or ROM, should help you out, turn off 3G, which should help. Also download advanceconfig and turn on the power saving items there.
FWIW, I have never had good results with the gps, but since I flashed the htc 5.05.401.1 with radio: 1.14.25.05 I now get very quick lock times. Also battery is a bit better even tho I'm running shell3.

Gps and UI Lag experiences please.

If you are one of the lucky few that owns a Samsung Captivate, please post your impressions of it here. I know only one person that reported ui lag on the captivate so far but the galaxy s forum is swarming with them. Also a gps poll over there indicated that many users were experiencing unsavory searching times and bad signals.
Share good and bad impressions here please.
p.s. a video of UI lag would be most appreciated so others can see what you are talking about and compare their own results.
From the videos that I have seen, occasionally there is some UI lag but it doesn't appear to be real bad. If you install another desktop launcher the phone is quicker so to me it doesn't matter. I could care less if I use touchwiz.
As far as the GPS... I don't know. It'll be interesting to find out though.
go to Androidforums.com to see all of the videos. They have a thread going with everything.

wow great coverage there, Thanks!. Is the little hickup when transitioning from one screen to another by swiping the "ui lag" that peeps are talking about? Dont get me wrong, i could see how i that could get annoying, especially since this phone deff has the hardware to run smoother than butter on a hot summer day..
Still thats not as bad as i hear some people make it out to sound. Maybe some users experience exceptionally high lag? But you say the diff desktop launcher takes care even of that tiny hickup?
I ask so much because im trying to make an informed purchasing decision .

The Androidforums.com have blown up with post since the captivate was announced. You should go read some of the details over there. AndroidandMe also has a video of the different desktops and yes they clear up the lag.
I havn't seen major lag on the captivate in any of the videos posted but I have seen some sluggish UI Experience on occasion. I'm not worried about it all because of the different desktops that you can download from the android market.
Samsung is suppose to be working on a fix as this is a software issue not a hardware issue. Who knows... Maybe Android 2.2. will fix it.
<3. Thats all i have to say.
Now for the record... Is this the most powerful phone on the market right now or what?
I cant find any references to where another phone beats this phone at anything (battery life excluded, haven't seen any info on that) except for that 2d stuff from the droid (which is touted to be meaningless anyway)...
Re: GPS - of all the video reviews of GPS aquisition on the Galaxy S, the speed was as fast or faster than other devices (running Android or iOS), so it should not be a problem. I will report back on the 18th or 19th after I get my Samsung Captivate.
thanks, OKMFT. Really looking forward to your input. I think the GPS is the only thing thats really troubling me now.
I just got to play with this phone in a local ATT store. I do kinda see what the OP was saying. I had an Aria in one hand and the Captivate in the other. The Aria seemed really smooth in transition while the Captivate was fast but seemed jittery. I think it may be more of a trick to the eye because the background moves just a little when you swipe the windows. Otherwise, every app I played with, email, internet, everything was really fast and sharp. The camera takes great pics with very little zoom time (unlike my HTC HD). The phone itself seems well built and extremely light weight. Overall I left very impressed and am planning to pick it up this weekend.
thnx 4 postin that here too. u didnt get a chance to play with the gps too by ne chance did you?
I unfortunately did not get a chance. I only had a couple minutes with it as the sales guy didn't want anyone else to see it because they were apparently not even supposed to have the device yet.
oh wow, nice job then!
I purchased one late Friday afternoon (after having been previously denied by two other stores and several other salespeople), and have taken it running, walking, and driving (using "Runner," "GPS Status," and Google Maps and Navigation).
I have found that it seems overall slower and less secure in GPS signal acquisition than my previous phones (iPhone 4, 3Gs, 3G) but is on par with my old Samsung Blackjack II. It took a while sometimes to get a signal and occasionally lost it when it had a reasonably good view of the sky (especially in car navigation). That being said, the iPhones weren't perfect either and all had trouble at times, so for me, it was just a little aggravating rather than a deal-breaker. Even though I didn't get instant gratification with Captivate's GPS, it never let me down for long and then was able to pick up the signal.
There've been a number of GPS fixes suggested over at Android Forums in the Galaxy S and Captivate areas...take a look and see if any work for you (oh, and report back!).
Summary: this phone is fast and snappy if you adequately manage running programs and widgets, and the GPS is kind of slow at times but not unusable.

Also, this phone is blazing fast except when too much stuff is churning away in the background. ATK takes care of that.
(Sorry for the duplicate post, as I accidentally posted this originally in the wrong thread and couldn't figure out how to delete it).
just got the phone. Stock just out of the box. I used gps with google maps on the way home. Got a lock in the few seconds it took me to load the map. Gps was flawless all the way home.
i'll let you know if anything changes.
Have had mine since Thursday evening. GPS is slow for me, I haven't actually put it to use yet so not sure how it performs after acquiring signal, I've tried a few of the suggestions in different forums, switching it to network service does seem to help.
As far as the UI, I actually considered returning the phone. Coming from a 3gs I was suprised how little difference there was at first. Then, after using it for a few days found it actually slowed down (adv task killer was one of the first apps I installed and I use it regularly)
However, per a suggestion from someone I installed LauncherProBeta and used it instead of Touch Wiz, what a difference. I mean really it's a different phone now. There are a few other fixes I'll do once I get a new SD card too that should help.

Picked up mine at local BB this morn at when they opened! Went from 3gs to this and so far please.
Now only probably I have is since 1100am central time I tried GPS and can't connect. Longest I have left it trying was the 30min drive home. No luck just a crazy icon in status bar that wont connect.
First Droid so I'm new to anymods so it could just be me. Been at this forum since Moto days and love it
This. Launcher pro beta fixed all lag. As for gps, mine catches in 5 to 10th seconds. I experimented with location settings and some were detrimental. Try turning all gps related stuff on or just play with those options to see if any help

[Q] HTC 7 Pro Stutter/Choppy Performance

Hi Guys,
Just picked up a brand new HTC 7 Pro to replace my Omnia 7 so I can get all the hacking goodness offered by a HTC handset
The only problem I'm having with it is the speed of the OS. Everything is really slow and choppy. Something that was like butter on the Omnia.
I understand the Omnia is using NAND rather than SD card for the OS, but simple gestures like scrolling up/down the home screen & list of apps are slow. And there is a noticible performance lag during the animation when clicking on an app (e.g. Settings) and when swiping left to right on a pivot.
I've updated the handset to Nodo and removed all the live tiles - even put it into flight mode - and I'm still having the same issue.
Anybody else have the same problem on theirs? Would replacing the stock SD card make a difference?
I know this won't be much help, but my htc arrive seems pretty smooth. Then again, I've never owned an Omnia 7 so whatever perceived differences there are I wouldn't know.
On the matter of the SD card, it's possible it could and you could always try, but my guess is that the latency and seek times would be so small in differences as to be roughly the same.
Thanks Scott. Thing is,its not always slow. A lot of the time it is perfect but the other day I was downloading pes2011 from the marketplace and I went to check my email - this was when it was at its worst. The animation to the home screen took about 3 seconds to complete! Once the download had finished, even during install, it was perfect again.
That's why I thought it may be an SD card issue. And believe me, if yours was doing what mine is, you would notice it

Oh well if that's the case maybe replacing the sd card would be worth a try because now it sounds more like a real issue.
Hey, I kind of know where you are coming from. Ill tell you that the performance on mine was smooth as can be. Though a month later... not so much anymore. I have a feeling it has to do with programs installed. I would be pretty sure a hard reset would cure it!
As for changing the SD card. I have read a lot into this. Doesnt seem like anyone has found a card that works faster than the current one, just higher capacity ones.
Having read how different cards work in different phones, you cant just go for a high class one and expect it to work. The SanDisk 32gb Class 2 is the best spoken for upgrade on our phone. Wont do much if anything for speed though. There is 2 threads on it if you can be bothered reading into it. But I summed it up for you

Thanks for this! Funny enough, it's stopped being a major issue on my phone. I have a feeling it's because I didn't give it a full charge when I took it out of the box.
Once I charged it til the LED was green, things seem to be very smooth again. From time to time, doing a large amount of downloading will slow it down but not as bad as it was before.
Obviously, I'm still going to change the SD card for the 32Gb

Bloatware, CPU clocking, screen resolutions, the point of root and much more!

Hi.
Ill just take a big breath and whine abit before i get to the point.
I've bought this XZs 6 months ago and i feel like its a little oven.
I just can't grip how sony was able to push this little cooker out on the marked and i've tried claiming it without any luck.
I've got a samsung xcover3 aswell (workphone) and i can do video calls forever as long as im plugged in, but with this... 15-20 minutes and either im out of battery or im having a hard time holding the the phone cause its too hot.
The charger (qualcom quick charge 3) doesnt charge it if its been used due to the temperatures so now im at the point where i just get my cooler blocks from the freezer if i need some juice and lay it ontop.
Now here iam, surfing the big web in search of answers and i've though that maybe, i can see if theres someone else out there who has some answers, or atleast some trick to it.
I've rooted the phone according to one of the posts here (nice work btw), and now i just dont know where to go. Not exactly straight forward from here.
I wouldnt give myself too much credit but i know how to write PHP, jQuery and MySQL, done my share of fiddeling with linux and i think i might be able to take this to the next step, but i just dont know where to start.
Things i would like to do, but that i dont have a clue about:
sudo apt-get remove bloatware (is there a way to do this?) I never use youtube, movie maker and all those other useless megabytes.
I've found a sh**load of apps to "remove bloatware", but i just dont trust them enough and im not willing to pay for something unless i get a review from someone whos real.
People overclock all the time, i want to crank it down abit instead, maybe a slower CPU/GPU will resolve the overheating issues, but where to i start digging? it like to RTFM, but i've got no clue on where to start, is there something like a bios on phones where you can fiddle with clocks?
Screen resolutions.. Something i can change? a lower resolution would make a difference on the GPU load? I mean, its nice to have HD, but video calls arent exactly blueray quality at the best of times.
I've come to understand that to be able to root, you need to make some adjustments to the kernel, rebuild it and flash it with a fix, and then you might run into more problems due to encryption and safetynet (whatever that is) but where did you guys learn how to do that?
Anyway, good bunch of people here who needs a good tap on the back for the good work they do.
Hope someone of you could reply and give me a little introduction to the world of rooted phones, maybe even cool me of abit.
