Hi I dont know much about this topic so I have a few questions.
Is overclocking it bad?
Is it possible to have like a switch mode? - Like have a real fast overclocked version and then and real underclocked version to save battery? Would this save battery if you underclocked it?
Thanks for you answers?
overclocking it can cause the device to take damage
overclocking it will eat more batt then a normal speed

Hey all just a quick question, obviously with the 1.8 OC on the Inspire this thing is blazing. But what is the battery life like at these OC's or even the voltage differences between stock 1 ghz 1.3 and say 1.8? I really just don't want to get the phone and OC it to keep it fast/smooth but have my battery last like 5 hours. So any insight about how much OCing affects battery life would be appreciated. Thanks!

well overclocking will drain your battery down faster. I would install setcpu from the market and set you clock speeds really low with the screen is off. This will help save battery when the phone is not in use.
Hi I've searched in the forum but I can't find any similar with sensation,
my question is does Overclock saves battery? or the Underclock do?
I'm using this rom and kernel at my signature.
sorry noob :/
underclock saves battery, cpu uses less power when running at lower frequencies

Really?.. some says that overclocking will save battery because less work for cpu.

Have a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underclocking
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking
It pretty much sums up what I believe to be the effect of Underclocking & Overclocking, of course I might just be wrong.

Depends entirely on how you use your phone.
Has anyone done real tests? I've always heard that underclocking keeps the phone awake longer for processes, overclocking uses more energy but completes processes quicker and therefore the CPU can sleep faster.
Just a little question, i have a x10 mini pro, and its processor runs at 600 Mhz.
Now with the Mini CM7 i can overclock it to 864 Mhz. So i've been testing it with 724 Mhz and my question is: if i set the maximum processor speed at 724 Mhz, and leave it like that permanently, would this affect my cellphone in some way?
What i'm trying to say is, if you set a maximum speed, it doesn't means that the processor is gonna be running at that speed all the time, just when is needed, for example in games so it won't increase noticeably the battery consumption if the phone is locked 85% of the time. Or it is actually draining more battery even if don't use it?
PS. (English is not my native language, so i'm sorry if the text is hard to undestand, tried my best to explain it well).
You do know the hazards of overclocking in general right? Unless you have the proper cooling, even on a cellphone you will eventually burn out the processor. That is the real issue you need to worry about, just because you can overclock does not mean that you should overclock.
I wouldn't overclock it to the max. That's just bad juju. Unless you plan on hooking up a perpetual ice pack to the phone as well. You'd do well to be a bit moderate.
And to answer your question, yes you will burn battery quicker.
Test at different speeds. If it runs stable, with no force closes, lock-ups, reboots, excess heat, etc., then you're good. You are correct, you are only setting the maximum. What your phone idles or runs at on will depend on what governor you are using, I recommend Smartass for good battery and performance balance, although I have been liking Smartass v2 lately. Obviously overclocking will affect battery life, but you will find that your choice of governor will make a huge difference too.
Well, thanks for the help, glad to see that there are people who are willing to help with small questions like this one. Keep the good job!
saw many overclocked doom kernels medium level and extreme level overclocking.
is it harmful to the phone? does it overheates the board and damages??
for a 1ghz X10 phone overclocking to 1.2ghz, is there much increase in performance and removes lags..???
Most kernel developers won't allow the kernel to be set to run at a speed harmul to your phone. So no, overclocking is not considered harmful. Overclocking can greatly reduce lag, but you will be sacrificing battery life.
yeah dont worry mates.
be happy to OC your phone. kernel developer know what they are doing.
but dont go OC your phone to hisghest OC 1st level becouse it will crash your phone. try increase it slowly.
Wondering if someone know any kernel that has energy "savings" parameters such as underclocking cpu(phone is quite fast itself and to be honest as a daily driver some users rarely use more than 30% of it's actual power), energy saving profil, underclocking gpu
Surely you can underclock stuff for yourself and after a restart an app to force those lower clocks but why not having a kernel that has all these so you'll have better battery life and be done with tweaking?
What are your thoughts people?
