T-Mobile XDA I Case Discoloration - General Topics

Hey,
Anybody have the issue where the T-Mobile XDA I case gets discolored? Basically the matte top paint layer is coming off in some places, making the whole thing look pretty crappy.
Is there any way to repaint the case? Or at least strip all of the surface paint?
Thanks for any feedback!

Somewhere I read nail polish remover will take the rest of the matte finish off, and that there's a a nice shiny finish underneath.
But so far, I just let the finish stay weathered. It matches the patina on the old EB case.

[Q] 'Bumper' style case?

My most hated thing about my Galaxy S is the bezel. Was wondering if anyone's come across a case similar to Apple's bumpers, as this would hide the bezel in a more elegant way. I've already tried the DIY method of using a wristband, but the phones is too big and so it just snapped when I was trying to put it on.
Any suggestions are welcome
Dont forget the home button really gets easily scratched even by our bare skin!
Soft rubber cases wraps around the bezel.
lots of pictures in the CASE topic
i'm using the Korean jelly type, very good for both looks and protection
the Euro ToughCase is also very good, for protection
but the one i like best is the Korean Mesh type is super elegant, make the phone looks really sharp and cool
pictures also on the CASE topic (page 3 as i recall)
I bought the case-mate case, it's a 2 parter, rubber and partial hardcase also extra screen protector is thrown into the package too.
Never liked mesh case. They look weird to me

As nice as all those cases are I love the look of the device how it is, hence my attempt to hide the only bit of it I don't like.
Maybe you could just cut the jellycases back open and there is your bumber...
Good point....
I have a couple of cheap silicone cases on order and might try cutting one into a bumper.

Thanks for biting the apple, I'd be most greatful if you let us know how you get on if you do choose to do it.

I did that already and its not good if you cut the whole backside off. Sides come too loose in my opinion.
Maybe if you don't cut the whole back off and leave some backside to keep the case in shape and give some friction it would be ok.
Starting to sound like a shill, but the Phantomskinz Chromatic "carbon fiber" appliqué that I'm using does a great job of hiding MOST of the iChrome look of the bezel. It totally covers the sides and leaves just a small ~1mm bit of chrome exposed on the top of the device, which is much more tasteful.

[Q] Grip sticker?

Anybody know where I can get an adhesive sheet to stick to the back of my touchpad to make it more grippy? This thing is slippy as. Something like a racquet grip, ideally.
I was thinking the same thing until I bought the HP Case for it. It needs something to hold it in and this case, for me, is the best thing. It makes it feel like it is more usable and robust.
Why would you want to risk having adhesive stuck to the back of the unit?
I have the HP case. It's nice and slim but the front panel flapping around (or having to be held back) when open is a bit of a pain, and it also makes the shape uneven.

Here is some I have been looking at the carbon fiber helps, as I used to have one on my view-sonic gtablet:

http://www.amazon.com/ArmorSuit-MilitaryShield-TouchPad-Protector-REPLACEMENTS/dp/B0057KD028
http://www.bodyguardz.com/hp-touchpad-armor-carbon-fiber.html
I'm interested in seeing what may come out soon for the touchpad. I've seen a lot of sellers on Amazon that have products launching in early Sept. Specifically for the TP. I just want a nicely fitted silicone case and a anti-glare screen film for mine.
I ordered the ArmorSuit carbon fiber. Will report to the quality when it arrives.
I ordered a full body extremeguardz skin for $14.99 which should give it some good grip. I use one on my vibrant and it's pretty damn good
Use skateboard grip tape!
I don't want to cut my fingers

Similar skins on Amazon. I like the looks and you get a matching wallpaper to continue the design on the front - very cool. The Burlwood looks very rich.
Have a similar one on G-tab and I like it but have not decided to skin the TP ... yet.
I use the armorsuit full body skin... It's awesome. Isn't nearly as slippery but still has the naked look and is well protected.

Yes, I have one of their skins on both my Nook and my TP. The added screensaver looks very cool as nunjabusiness stated previously. Decalgirl will make any design they have for the TP, so if you see a design that you like, but it's not listed as a TP design, you can "Shop by Design", pick the design and then enter what device it's for. They usually ship the next day, even for special orders.
The skins definitely add grip. They fit perfectly (you may need to stretch it lengthwise a little when applying to the front, but my holes for the camera and home key are perfectly centered. I have the front side for my TP installed on top of an "Armor Suit" screen protector. No issues with the decalgirl skin sticking to the armor suit.
very quick 1 take video review I did here.

TLR - easy to fit, back looks good, not too impressed with front sticker.

Customizing a Skin for Infuse.

I have a skin from Skinit on my laptop and I like it so I ordered a skin for the Infuse. This skin is not much use for protection but it does make my phone unique.
I am not sure if I like the front face but the skin has the buttons printed and does make it easier to locate the 4 buttons.
Here are some pix. In case someone wants to order a skin, here is the link and a 20% discount code.

I don't see a front camera or sensor holes on the skin....is there?

Yes, they are there. I peel off the oblong slot first and realized it would be easier to peel the openings after I place the skin on the phone. Took the picture prior to peeling off those opening. The skin fit quite well and I do not see any air bubbles. It should look better after a few days. This is easier to apply as it is smaller than my laptop skin.

How well does it work with the textured back of the Infuse?

The skin is quite thick and lay down the back smooth. The word Samsung was also covered up completely with no outward indication it was there.
Although mine was a custom one, there are some texture skins that give the feel of metal or carbon fiber. That might be appealing to some.
After a couple of days with the skin applied to the Infuse, some dimples started to appear on the skin. This is caused by the textured surface of the back cover. Nothing major but they are there.
The word Samsung is still covered up completely.

Yeah... that was my concern.
My buddy sanded his back cover down. Bought a spare from samsung and used the skinit on it. No bubbles or anything in it. Works awesome.

thanks for the pics. Im gonna try to white out the infuse with an all white skin but back cover stock. I am a little hesitant about how the front skin will look but seeing this, I think I will try it.

Bodyguardz white carbon fiber skin review.

Well Here is my BodyGardz carbon fiber review.
I ordered from amazon as I am a member and get the prime shipping, came in second day.
Opened and packaging as usual, nice bodyguardz packaging, opened it up and all looked nice, the carbon fiber is not actually carbon fiber all it is is stamped. Well continuing on.
I cleaned the phone really good, the kit comes with an alcohol wipe and a soft lint free cloth.
I started to install the carbon fiber backing, one done I looked at it, man this is ugly. It does not fit well and does not even go with the curves of the phone. Ok i proceeded as it has some slits that go on the sides of the phone and I thought they would look good once all pieces where installed.
I installed every piece and this looks plain bad. ( will post pics, not proper shape, looks dam ugly)
Ok I went on to install the screen protector. This is a wet application, the kit comes with its own gel. Very easy to install, rubbed the back with gel, placed it on screen and guess what, it does not cover the whole screen. if you adjust it to one side you will have a nice un protected slice on the opposite. I completed the application ( yes it has the orange peel effect). I let it dry over night and then off to work. It was in my pocket all day, after work I get home pull the phone out and damn its even uglier, the edges seem to have some glue seepage and instead of white it is black with a border of pocket lint( lol). The screen the same way.
If this is what Bodyguardz skin are like do not buy. Its a great big pile of garbage. makes your phone ugly. I will be contacting them per the 30 day return policy. I lost the original sheets where everything came but still have the packaging. I ill post what happens... You have been warned do not buy this!
Ill post picks later tonight, I need to set up my camera up as my kodak will not take clear enough images...
lol gotta admit laughed a few time as I read the review.
ROFL... Sorry man.
I got the XOSkins carbon fiber back and it fits the AT&T HOX very well. The pin and camera cutouts are literally perfect.
Thanks for the honest review bro!
Damn that sucks!
Thanks for the laugh man.
I also bought this for my white HOX but now that i have a grey i decided to do it anyway. Its really not as bad as you're making it. The skin fits well on the back but the sides aren't cut very well. The screen protector is bad though lol

updated with images, on the ones with the screen one side has the screen protector aligned perfectly and on the other side you can see where it has a big gap. On the one with the skin you can see how crappy it looks, the cuts are very bad, it is a dirt and lint magnet. looks nice on the bodyguardz website image but if you plan on using the phone this is not for you.
Armorsuit full body skin zero orange peel but cuts for Pogo pins are of but who cares there's no damn Pogo dock but my hox looks great Armorsuit is the best skinomi is second. They always are on sale on Amazon

3M DI-NOC Carbon Fiber Vinyl plus S-line TPU case

Hey,
I just wanted to share something I've done to my S line TPU case I got from ebay. The regular glossy back of part of the case looked ugly and picked up fingerprints so I stuck some carbon fiber vinyl on it.
It's pretty cheap and a roll can be used for a lot of projects. I even covered my laptop.
I got mine here :http://www.amazon.com/Black-DI-NOC-Carbon-Fiber-CA-421/dp/B0062A4HE2/ref=sr_1_6?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1355796879&sr=1-6&keywords=carbon+fiber+vinyl+di+noc
If you want to try it here are the steps:
What you'll need:
- Scissors
- A roll of carbon fiber vinyl
- Hair dryer or heat gun
- a very sharp knife(I used an exacto knife) needed for fine details
1. cut out a piece of it making sure you give yourself at least an inch of extra material along the edges which you can trim down later.
2. Then line it up and stick it on and use a hairdryer to heat up the sides. This makes the material soft which allows you to stretch it over the corners and uneven areas.
3. Once you have everything lined up use the exacto knife to cut off the excess vinyl
4. Make some finishing details
5. you're done
Let me know what you think
WOW! i thought the s-line case was ugly as hell, but you sure did make something out of it! its very nice! kudos to you!
That looks awesome. Tried finding the Black 3M DI-NOC in Canada but it's proving either too expensive or hard to find locally. Too bad, would've loved to try that on the S-line I ordered.
You should sell this!

Any tint (wrap) shop should be able to get it, or already have it in stock. I guess that would be dependent on the size of your city however. No shortage of it in Calgary.
looks cool
Dude 10 outta 10 for originality. I'm off to order a roll myself. Many thanks

Awesome idea!
I've got a big roll of that stuff somewhere that i bought to customise some motorcycle parts,
Looks like i've found another use for it now.
Really nicely done! You should sell your services! And you can do white carbon fiber as well with the frost S line case! LOL.
Seriously, the cf resembles the sparklies on the back of the phone as well, so very well done IMO. :good:
That turned out sick! I've done that with a few cases. That one looks like it would be to bad to do. Looks great

Here's a video showing how to stretch the vinyl properly if you also want to try this out:

Just make sure that you use a reallly sharp knife for a nice clean looking cut. If not, your results may not be clean looking.
