Hi Everyone,
just found some news on the MDA/XDA 3 from the guys at pdagold.com
http://www.pdagold.com/articles/detail.asp?a=162
It's just rumors, but maybe we're lucky and the build-in Wi-Fi is not.
Don't know what to think of the permanently attached Keyboard.
I prefer a slim and lighter version instead of having a fullsize keyboard, but thats just my opinion.
Does anyone know of a roadmap or an estimated release date?
Just to let you all know...
Cheers,
Eico
it dont mention HTC so tmobile could be changing to another pda maker
like hp did with the newer ipaqs
maybe they would release some phone based on asus or some of the many others out there
This is the CDMA device from Daxian. Cause at this moment it only works on a CDMA network, it just been released in China... So if there are any chinese members, can you post some experience about this device?
http://www.daxiantelecom.com/english/product/product.asp?id=23
Ay, this is apparently not an XDA at all.. Because im expecting atleast VGA screen, and 3G on it

Didn't hp change to HTC for their new ipaq Pocket Phone?
Well, I don't know other manufacturers, but if the phone is as reliable as my Himalaya is until now and it has all the features I want, why should I bother...
On the other hand, why should T-Mobile end a working partnership with HTC? Or do they have issues, I haven't heard of?

That's what I was thinking too, don't know if 3G is a must for me, but VGA definately is!
Another cool thing would be a second SDIO-Slot or at least a SDIO and a SD-Slot to have extra Memory and a device extension.

I actually think most of the iPaqs have been built by HTC, so it wouldn't be much of a change...
after hp3900 or was it hp5500 got another company to make them
forget who though
Hi everybody,
T-Mobile Germany just confirmed the MDA III
sorry, the links are in German, but the device pretty much is like everyone speculated during the last weeks.
Except, that it has WLAN build-in.

Hi all!
If this is the spec for the upcoming XDA III, I'd have no reason to upgrade from my XDA II. Hope this is a not what it actually turns out to be.........
It is Ugly!
And it is out of date for the features.
I find Toshiba releases very good Pda's this time!

While the iBIZ virtual keyboard is very interesting, you still need a desktop to use it on which you won't find on underground/commuter trains which is probably where most people will be emailing from.
Anybody out there used a fullscreen software keyboard and a thumbpad - how do they compare? On a related topic does the thumbpad for the XDA II work on the XDA I, and is it any good? I'm trying to find an input method that compares to a laptop.
No GPRS ??
No GPRS ?
If so, forget it!

According to sources inside t-mobile, they plan to release a 3.3 ROM soon and a WM6 rom at the end of the year.
rom at the end of the year ---- Around the corner or around next year
It would be nice if it was true, but I don't believe it. If their plan is to keep the Universal in circulation as a low priced device to compete with the NEWER MODELS they will get, then we might have a chance of seing a new ROM from them, I hope...Everyone cross their fingers.

Since there hasn't really been a proper replacement for the Universal it would make sense to keep it up to date. Before someone mentions the Ameo, I don't really consider it to be a replacement for the universal, too big and you can't even use it as a phone without a headset. The universal is pushing the boundaries being something you can call a phone as it is, but at least you can hold it up to your ear and talk into it.

Might end up being a carrier replacement, but not a manufacturer one, HTC don't make it. In the past HTC have always seemed to release either completely new products or upgrades to their existing lines, they surely can't think that the Athena/Ameo is an upgrade for the universal.
Some people dont understand that T-Mobile is in the telecom business and not in the PDA business.
They make money from you USING the Universal, not by selling you a new device.

It is an interesting thought.....
Actually they don't make much money from me for using my universal, flext35 + Web&Walk for £32 and they get that every month even if I don't switch it on. Only time they make money is when I'm abroad.

Although that would be lovely, it would also be totally out of character for the Mobile Operators to dwell on devices for so long - when they replace models every year.
I bought my XDA Exec just in February last year, but there has been lots of new development.
On the agreeable part, XDA Exec is still on offer from O2 - meaning it's current and an "official" update might follow...

somehow although that would be sweet i doubt o2 will be releasing an update to the universal only in WM5 form, even if they did, they would only screw it up with the O2 active UI that will slow the whole device down even more.
personally i think that MS should produce update roms and provide these to carriers for users to update a clean ROM without operator software if the user wishes to download it. that would make more sence IMHO

No, HTC no longer make handsets for imate, they stopped doing so when they started to sell directly to the public under their own name. Operators can still have branded HTC phones, but its easier for them to sell to the public as they can offset the cost of the handset against a contract. Imate do not have this luxury so would be trying to compete directly against HTC in the SIM free market.

Hi guys!
Sorry for opening such a stupid thread, but I really can't decide which device I'd prefer.
Today I'm going to get a new phone, because I had problems with my VPA Compact II from vodafone. Right now I am looking at the VPA Compact IV and the HTC Touch. I'd like to get my hands on another PPC with UMTS, but the company where my dad works, doesn't allow UMTS phones.
I have to decide very quick.
I heard, that many Touch users are having somthing like dust under their screens. Has the Herald different problems?!
If you had the choice between the Touch and the Herald. Which pocket pc would you choose?
Please help me, because I don't see any differences or pro and cons between these phones except the fact, that the touch is much smaller.
What about the headset?
Guys, please don't let me suffer and try to help me in my decision.
Thanks, Vi

Herald has a keyboard. Also there is a touch flo ROM avaliable for the Herald.
I had the same difficult decision as you not too long ago. I went with the Herald because of the keyboard. It was actually between a Touch, Herald or iPhone. I didnt like the iPhone because it couldnt really do much, no customization or anything, its basically a toy first, a phone and PDA second.
The Touch is awesome but I definitely wanted the keyboard.
All in all I'm glad I got the Herald and the new Touchflo ROMs make this thing everything the Touch is but better, in my opinion.
So basically, would you rather go for slimness(Touch), or better productivity, ease of use etc.(Herald)?
Thanks for your posts and opinions! I chose the touch because I noticed that I didn't use the keyboard of my wizard too often. I think I'm going to have fun with PocketCM Keyboard
I hope I made a good decision.
Thanks again,
Vi

In holland a lot of the pda phones are cheaper on a business contract, but only a company can get such a contract of course. Maybe it's the same in Germany and he's taking that route...
I currently own an O2 XDA IIi (HTC Alpine), I am quite satisfied with it but it has gotten a bit old, there is no OS upgrade, so I cannot enjoy many of the new apps which are made exclusively for WM5.0/6.0/6.1. I am wondering which device to buy. I thought about :
- getting an HTC Advantage
- getting an HTC Kaiser
- getting O2 XDA Flame (but WM 5.0!!!!)
- waiting for E-ten V900 or SE Xperia X1
I use my PPC as a phone (about 1-2 calls a day, 2-3 SMS a day), to play MP3 (about 1-2 hours a day), to play some games especially using FPSECE PSX emulator. I also use it as a "mini-PC".
The Advantage seems to be extremely powerful but I am afraid itmight be too big for me (I want to know how it compares to an XDAIIi with 2400 mAh battery thus making it thicker; I also want to know how the Kaiser compares to Nokia 6600 ).
HTC Kaiser also appears to be a good choice but I am not sure it will be powerful enough for me, especially with the driver problem.
I also thought of waiting for E-ten V900 or SE Xperia X1 (especially the latter), but I want a new PPC before July, and I am not sure when these devices will be released.
Another question : what about upgrading to Windows Mobile 7.0 in the future? Will it be possible ? Or is the question thoroughly irrelevant as the OS is still under development ?
Can you help choose my future device ? Thanks

I hear what your saying. I've been getting very anxious to upgrade my current ppc and the X1 is what I want. I told my wife, if I upgrade to the Tilt now, she will inherit it when the X1 comes out. She also would also inherit my 8525 if I got the Tilt now. apparently I'm out of my gaourd.... Needless to say, thats a ton of money just to get what I want.
Good luck with your descision....

So, does it fit in your pocket ? (My XDA IIi fits but it's a bit thick ) Is the performance really good ? (much better than that of Kaiser, for instance ?)
it's pretty much the same hardware as kaiser so it all comes down to if
sonyE is also too cheap to pay qualcomm for their driver
Well, depends wht pocket. School trousers... no. skinny jeans obviously not. tracksuit bottoms, yep. Blazer pocket definitely.
So it depends on where you want it lol.
Its about double the speed of any of my other devices. But i guess thats because the other two both lacked something, the tytn lacked the ram, and my touch lacks the processor.
The advantage has it all. which is why im getting another one.

Definitely NOT xda Stealth
hmm
my next toy will def be the X1 from sony just look awsome . as far as the advantage man thats not much money for a phone might as well buy a laptop or a EEE PC from asus they rock. love my EEE
I am a TYTN II owner and I'm well chuffed with that device. I had a Touch Pro delivered today and I have to say I'm thoroughly underwhelmed. The performance seems pretty sluggish and the browser rendering experience is poor. So I have to say right now mine will either go back to the supplier or will end up on Ebay. It's a shame as I really wanted to like the experience on this device.
Oh the irony! Was your TYTN II as good on its first day as it is today. I have just joined today so as to get help with my new Touch Pro, when it arrives.
Why are you on this forum if you cant wait for others to help with any issues you have discovered with the Touch Pro?

TouchFlo is relatively OK performance wise.
Going under the covers to Windows Mobile 6.1 is where it starts to fall apart.

TMobile and 3.6 (although in reality that never means more than 800Kps).
I don't think it's connection speed, I think it's the conversion/rendering of the pages into a "desktop browser" format.

Just general performance really. Watching this piece of hardware struggle under Windows Mobile 6.1 trying to keep up with going from landscape to portrait, the aforementioned browser issues and just general speed brings a tear to my eye. Again I really wanted to like the experience but I have to be honest to my first impressions and they are not good.
Wouldn't theoretical maximum for 3,6 MBps be 0,45Mbps, half a meg per second. Also when you state that "when you go under the covers", do you find that you were dissappointed with the WM6.1 OS?? Didn't you already say you were coming from TYTN II, which means you knew perfectly what to wait for. Why so disappointed then.
..and also, don't lose hope just yet. It was only released yesterday. No software is yet well optimized for it, nor the OS is optimized. So it will improve greatly. Just you wait.

T-Mobile vanilla Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM and it's just good. (Yes I've used non-vanilla, ROMS on other devices e.g TYTN I and seen 'em improve performance.) Maybe I'm just not willing to live that pain on a software config a hardware manufacturer has released directly.

Sorry I did not get the point here. Is it too slow or is it not able to render the websites correctly?
I'm currently using the leaked Diamond version of Opera on my TyTN and so far I'm quite happy with it. The higher display resolution might of course consume some extra CPU power, but on the other hand the Touch Pro CPU itself is more powerful then the TyTN one.
It's always difficult to compare different user experiences because everyone has different expectations, so I would really appreciate if you could go a little bit more into detail.
Hi all
I looking for a UK mobile phone that does the following:
Wifi
GPS
Windows mobile
It must be as small as possible. Loading new firmware/software on is no problem. Secondhand or brand new. Open to options on the price.
What are your suggestions?
whats your budget? if you want a nice one, htc touch diamond is thin and small, probably the best if ur open on price. if you want a cheaper one, the kaiser might work although it is big. windows mobile phones generally arent small, especially the ones from htc. try looking to samsung, lg, and other companies, im not familiar so i cant provide much insight..
Samsun Omnia all the way!
I would say, forget about HTC and get yourself a SAMSUNG Omnia!
Latest HTC models, including Diamond, Kaiser, Touch Pro, Touch HD and many others have problem with GPS lag, bad or no video drivers, and many other irritating and annoying bugs!
Samsung Omnia has none of these problems!
ya thats what i would say. im dumping my diamond on ebay so if you want it, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=260336534297.
is there a huge user-based discussion board like the htc specifically for that device tho? thats what im worried about. flashing roms and other stuff wouldnt be the same without dedicated cookers.
my main question for anyone here is which one is better out of the 3: Samsung Omnia, Sony Xperia X1, or HTC Touch HD/Touch Pro?

I would recommend you to look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446362
And you´ll see what XDA members think about the best device
My recommendation is an HTC definetly! as you will have the great support and knowledge of this great site
Once you check here: http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdachooser
According to your needs and $$ you´ll be able to decide
Good luck,
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Budget is an issue but I'd not like to restrict choice at the moment as I'd like to see what's out there that fits the bill first. Besides, mobile phone operators here often give the phones away or sell them cheaply to get your business so retail price is not always what you pay.
Any more suggestions?
if u dont have to have windows, u can try a blackberry, iphone (not recommended, overrated crap in my view), or the nokia high end ones that run symbian.

I used to have Touch pro and Touch Diamond and I can say that both of them are no match comparing to omnia, and what I can make out from reading the threads on the Touch HD forum, it has the same hardware as Touch pro, and it also has the same buggs! Meaning that it has GPS lag, crapy video performance, and probably some other things as well!
Omnia is just much more snappier, yes it has less ram, but really, comparing to the other devices it´s much quicker!
Oh and please, if you have the possibillity to test all devices for comparison please do that, don´t trust the performence tests that you can find on various sites, that is only numbers that looks good on paper, but in reality it really is not at all that good!
Just go and read in the Touch pro or Touch HD forum, search for posts about performance or GPS lag or video drivers, and you will understand what I mean!
Also there are several youtube videos showing the many issues these devices have!
Oh and I just have to mention that I have had about 10 different HTC devices so far over the years, and almost all of them has been just as crappy! The only HTC device that I still own, and that actually outperforms the new HTC devices that are sold today is the good old Universal!
Anyway, good luck with your decision and let us know if you have any more questions! Would be good to know what you decide in the end, and why you decided for that particular device! Hope to hear from you soon!
Speaking to my current provider O2, I can get either an XDA ignito or a Samsung Pixon, both on very good tariffs. Both have wifi, the Samsung seems to have a great camera (8MegaPixel) but it's the phone, GPS and WiFi I shall use the most.
Any comments to help me choose between these 2?
i am going to point out the obvious in case someone else stumbles over this thread, the Ignito is a re-badged Touch Diamond Personally i have no observations to make as i have been happy with my HTC devices so far.
Finances prevent me from looking into the latest and greatest, my Trinity does all i need of it. If i want a digital camera i have a pocket sized Fuji, and mobile music is catered for by an iPod Classic, 120Gb, so no shortage of music there.
